That was absolutely awesome. For a young man you are an amazing blacksmith and craftsman. Not only did you do a great job on the blade itself but I was blown away by the way you made the handle. I haven't seen anyone do a stacked handle in a long time and you nailed it perfectly. Anyone would be proud to own that blade including myself. Great job
I have seen how the Finnish make birch bark handles for their knives and they don't use glue. Instead they have the tang pointed like a spike and stab the sheets of birch bark onto the tang of knife, then they pound the bark down using a wooden block or rod that is hallow in the middle to compress them together. They would do this several times in till the desired length is achieved
I LOVE this knife, it's simplistic yet pretty! One thing that I see LOTS of people do that i don't understand is that they don't put a relief right before the hilt. It leads to a sloping edge after a few years of sharpening.
Damn...gotta admit at first I was a little skeptical but you proved me wrong! What a work of art man! Much respect! I really want to learn how to make my own knife.
Wow, I have seen a lot of knives made, but never seen anyone use birch bark as a handle! That's really cool. I have tons of birch around here, now I have some plans!
Birch bark has historically been used for starting fires and sealing canoes by the native Americans. Tree bark in general has been used by ancient tribes as tree bark tents as homes.
That is a beautiful Finnish knife. I love the use of the cold chisel! Your technique is impressive and the knife looks like a real champ! Thanks for the fun video!
thanks for make me learn what PATIENCE is Make N' Create, now i can see why some people go further than others, your channel is awesome and i enjoy every moment from your video ! greetings from Brazil tip: add some Dark Piano musics to your video, it looks too over legendary man, trust me
Nice Work, that's a beautiful knife! Ever thought about adding subtiles like other silent creators, for instance Primitive Technology, do? I think it would be very interesting to have the option of reading what exactly you're doing and what your thought process was/is. Cheers! :)
Again, WOW! I love the things you make, and the videos of you creating them. One thing I'd like you to add to your videos, is the time/days it took you to make each of these items.
Fantastic video of the whole process start to finish, expertly edited to not lose interest but also show how much work goes into the process. The birch bark handle is something I've never seen before, it is beautiful but how does it hold up compared to leather/wood/G10/Micarta?
awesome stuff, really like your work. But why do you not heatshrink the crossguartds onto the tangs? I mean it would hold much better then glue and you just have to make a slightly smaller extrusion (2-10 micrometer)
I want to try this my self but I have 3 questions. 1. What kind of stock metal did you use? 2. I saw you tempered it for 2 hours in your oven but at what °C? 3. Any tipps on collecting the birch bark? Do I have to let it dry for a few weeks first? Thank you so much for all the videos of your work I really apreciate it! You are great!
I love that knife you did a beautiful job and wow you made it look so easy when I know very well it is not thank you sir God bless you and yours long life and prosperity
Super cool. What kind of epoxy did you use for the handle? A longer setting, tougher epoxy I’d think would be better. I’d also slather the the bark in it to toughen it up for the handle when stacking them. I would be worried about some of those discs cracking and coming loose with too weak an epoxy or too little used.
Ever since I first learned of the puukko I have LOVED that style of handle construction. A simple concept that ends up functional and pretty.

yeah, but it probably is easier that way.
Anthony Trinh , probably , one of the easiest ways is boiling up already compressed handle - birch tar will glue everything instead of you)
The method is older than glue.

i know that i always comment about your creativity being through the roof, but this one is a step above, the handle and blade are both beautiful.
Thank brother!
That handle has a really nice look to it. Brilliant as always.
I love the handle! I never thought of Birch Bark before.

I love the handle, bigger than I've expected but wow looks so awesome !
It's pretty long yeah, but it really makes a difference when handling it. Thanks mate!
FINALLY!!! Someone who normalizes their blade. I have no doubt that a lot of folks do it off camera but I always get worried when I don’t see it.
Pretty good. Didn't know that the bark could be used in this way. Excellent ... >:3
birch bark Is used for many things. It's very rich in natural oils and tar, so even though it's totally dried it's still very flexible.
maybe it was also used because in finlnd it goes from warm to very cold and that can take a toll on solid wooden handles and might make them crack?
Birch bark has historically been used for starting fires and sealing canoes by the native Americans. Tree bark in general has been used by ancient tribes as tree bark tents as homes.
Finns also used to make shoes, backbags, purses, and sheaths out of Birch bark
The imperial Inquisition The stuff can be worked like leather, from what I've seen since this video. So, perhaps not so surprising.
