    FYI, A lot of people have had major issues with their SSD getting WAY too hot or flat out overheating and stop working when they opted to not put the cover back on the SSD expansion bay in the PS5. From what I understand, the PS5 was designed with the intention of keeping that cover ON for optimal airflow to cool the SSD. So I'd play it safe for now and only use heatsinks that fit in the bay with the little steel cover on. It would be one thing if a ps5 was easily replaced.. but we all know that ain't the case..

    Really glad you made this video. Seems like people are very intimidated by this install. It really couldn't be simpler. I suppose the Xbox series x SSD is easier to install, but really the only added steps for the PS5 is removing the side panel and screwing it in! I'm so glad Sony went with a standard M.2 SSD instead of a proprietary one, that way they have no control over the price! They will get cheaper everyone!

      Both are useless plastic boxes. Everything Xbox gets we get even better on PC. Sony can’t even make a decent console and it shows. Looking forward to playing them “exclusives” on Ultra Settings while you console shills settle for 1440p 60 🤣

      @@N-Re-Kay look man, you know not everyone wants to pay 1500 dollars for a graphics card. And that doesn't include the rest of the components you need for a PC. I have been a PC gamer for the past 10 years, but I sold my PC last year. I prefer mouse and keyboard. I love the flexibility of PC gaming, I love the more open platform it is. But I was only using mine for gaming. And it was getting old and obsolete. So I had to decide whether I wanted to spend 2k building a new PC or just get a PS5. Since it's 1/4 the price and a very capable machine I went with the PS5. I miss some things about PC gaming, like I loved my ultra wide monitor. But I don't miss the cost. And I can play every single game on PS5 I would want to play on PC. Plus a few console exclusives I really want to play. When I can buy a PS5 and a new TV plus some games to go with it for less than it costs to build a new PC than the choice is obvious. I still love PC gaming. But it's not for everyone. Not everyone can afford a gaming PC and even fewer still would shell out for a top of the line 3090 equipped rig. The fact that this generation of consoles are what they are is a blessing to the PC gaming community. We all know devs build there games around consoles, and now the consoles are more like a PC than ever before. Games will no longer be designed around slow hard drives. Every game will be made with SSDs in mind, and that's because millions of consoles have them as standard now. And both consoles are capable of ray tracing. More devs will work on implementing ray tracing now that the console version can have some as well. It didn't make much financial sense to implement ray tracing when it was only for PC gamers who had an RTX card. Not many games did, or didn't implement it well. PC gaming is only going to get better now that the next generation of consoles is here. I'm not going to say consoles are better. It's just preference. But they are definitely not useless plastic boxes.

      I want to tell you that the Sabrent Rocket you've linked to isn't within the specs that's advised by Sony. They specify the minimum required read speed at 5500MBytes/s. FWIW The Sabrent Rocket _4 Plus_ seems to be fine. I got myself a WD_Black SN850 without the heatsink. I've added a (single-sided) heatsink from ICY-BOX IB-M2HS-70 on top of it. The heatsink is actually two millimetres too tall to put the cover back on. Which is even better considering the added benefit of some proper airflow.

      No. That voids your warranty, and the sticker usually acts as a heat spreader for most SSDs. The one used in this video is a metal based sticker. That’s why it looks kind of crinkled - he took the sticker off for another video.

    • @IntelligentProbe
      @IntelligentProbe 3 роки тому +1

      No, the sticker is made of metal and acts as a heatsink and will void your warranty if removed. It's not a paper sticker in which case you would remove it. That sticker will help trasnfer heat to the larger heatsink.

      Xbox has had expandable storage since launch. While PS5 is just now getting it and it’s beta testing from the community 😂. So if you buy a SSD that doesn’t work Sony isn’t responsible for it 🤦🏽‍♂️
      Sony should be the one testing this not the PlayStation community.

    • @hiawa23
      @hiawa23 3 роки тому

    • @carolinagamer2874
      @carolinagamer2874 3 роки тому

      @Jason Yuen See the problem is you’re stuck on the speed of Xbox SSD when there is more to the custom Velocity Architecture than just speed. And the memory expansion will match it to the T.
      You’re getting memory expansion that just matches the required speeds and that’s it. And those SSDs will slow down the longer they get heated up. So eventually it will get too slow and will need to be replaced.
      Velocity Architecture on the other hand was specifically designed to sustain constant speeds for a longer time than PC M.2 SSD. There’s more to it than just speed.

    Hello, I’ve been watching your videos and they are very good. Thanks a lot.
    I have a question, though. Do you have to remove the brand sticker from tha SSD prior to the installation of the heatsink?

    • @nascompares

      Nope. You should leave it on. It has zero impact on modern NVMe SSD heat dissipation and in some cases it can invalidate your warranty

    But what’s the difference?? I get you have more memory but what else ? Because I just bought my Ps5 and I have a external hard drive on my PS4 so I wanna see if I should buy one of these or the external ?? Because I’m trying to save money at the same time …

    • @ssampzz
      @ssampzz 8 днів тому

      I assume you worked this out as this was 2yrs ago, but for others: the diff is that an external hard drive can only play ps4 games off it. Using an external hard drive for ps5 games would mean you’d have to keep moving them on and off your internal memory (which is fine but a faff).

    In this case, this is no sweat for me, but the XBox Series upgrade is much easier for normal users. I expect them to offer higher capacities soon. I think XBox won the upgrade path... For my PS5, I used the WD Black Game drive. For whatever reason, it took two reboots to see it. Of course, on beta software, I understand some bugs. I wonder how long this will be in beta. I've noticed no issues and everything menu wise is a bit faster (even before adding the drive).

      I have an external Samsung SSD which works great and saves a bunch of time downloading games.
      You can't play PS5 games from an external drive so you can keep them externally and transfer them when you want to play them which is much faster than downloading them each time and can play PS4 games straight from there with no need to transfer.

    QUESTION 🙋🏻‍♂️- Can I install the drive then take it out when I get the heatsink and reinstall without issue?
    I don’t get my heatsink until next month…yeah believe it or not I got the samsung 980 pro right away but heatsinks are all sold out and don’t restock/ship out until October.

  • @Beer_Wolf

    I had to press down ever so slightly on the expansion cover to close and screw it in... Will that cause any issue?
    The heat sink I used had the instructions of placing the thermal pads on both sides, where as you just did it top side against the fins part.
    Regardless I got it installed and working, and I thank you for that... got the Seagate Firecuda 530 4TB, cost a fair bit so was kinda stressful thinking I messed up.

      Given the transfer speeds it shouldn't take more than a minute to transfer like a 200gb game between the drives internally. External nvme more like 3 minutes and external SATA SSD more like 7 minutes
