Testing on different ps5s isn't good testing. You should test all of them in one machine.

I agree. I very much like the video, but in terms of keeping all controls as equal as possible, I'd have done the same machine, with the same cool down time between trials, and check the internet speed before each download as needed. That said, by the time I would have finished, Kylie Jenner would have become president lol.

I bought myself the 2 TB Corsair MP600 PRO during the prime day sale on Amazon for 122 Euros. The read speed is 7100 Mbps and the write is 6800 Mbps. I couldn't be happier with its performance.
I formatted the drive 3 times to test its consistency. With each format, the speed just increased in its read speed. Started with 630 Mbps on the first format and 6500 Mpbs on the third format.
Even if the write speed is UPTO 7100 Mbps, I think the PS5 reads it in a different way. No matter which drive you buy, with read speed over 6500 Mbps, the PS5 will read them between 6000 Mbps - 6500 Mbps.
I moved all my games to the nvme drive and so far I haven't had any issues with downloading the games or running them off the nvme drive whatsoever.
In my opinion, corsair is the best option to go for. It is cheaper than the others and offers comparatively better Read/Write speeds.

  • @Derakkon2
    @Derakkon2 Рік тому +29

Here's a few things that would help your testing. First of all, ignore the download speeds. That can vary significantly due to your ISP's and Sony's CDN traffic. Second, ignore the disc install speed. Blu-ray read speeds are significantly slower than what these NVME drives are capable of doing. For the actual testing, you should use larger games for the transfer test, run it multiple times for each drive, and then show the results for both transferring to and from the drive. Doing it this way should help prevent any background system processes from throwing off the results too much.

One game can go faster than another. GTA V (90GB) was done in 15 minutes, it went just over 100 MB/S while the CoD update went at about 80. I have a 1 gb/s internet speed. I've got it wired.

Ive had it in my PS5 for a few weeks (PS5 is only about 3-4 weeks old anyways) and so far I'm happy with it. I dont plan on buying many games for my PS5 currently, maybe 10 max, but i dont want to be having to delete files like i did on the PS4 to do updates or play new games. If i need more space, then I'll probably just get a 2 or even a 4 TB ssd for it. I dont think that will happen, but being the PS5 has had many things to slow its sales like the microchip shortage as well as just Covid in general, game development probably hasnt gone into full swing yet. Personally the peak gaming for me was during PS3 as i have probably over 100 games for it while ps4 has something like 25 tops. So far i have 2 games for my PS5 and one on the way.

It insane how big a a difference it makes for nearly everyone. If anybody doesn't know about this, look into it.
I play GT7 alot and so just adding all of Sonys Internet Ports to my router plus adding Gran Turismo 7's Ports, It was night and day. Port forwarding laser focuses on what your connecting to and gives your router and much faster, solid, more bandwidth connection. There is Ports to add just for the PlayStation and Most Games have their own Port numbers so dont forget to add to your Router Lists.

depends on your situation or sure. If waiting a little bit to transfer games from an External 550mb/s SATA SSD, than id go for a 2GB for $75-80. If you are playing alot of games and dont want to wait, and have the extra money. Than I hoped you grabbed an NVME M.2 one from Black Friday since the 1TB are back up to $120-140. Thats 1/2 the storage of a SATA SSD and usually half the cost. Than thirdly, if you have a big PS4 Library Id get like a 4TB SSD since PS$ games dont really benefit from the NVME speeds. There is a million reasons why an how they should upgrade their PS5 storage and its all relative to their reasons and financial situations.
Personally, Im using a 2TB SSD Drive I had before the PS5 even launched for my extra storage at the moment. I just bought a 10$ USB 3.2 Gen 1 Enclosure online for it so it works as an external.
I dont play more than a few games at a time and have 25+ games and 1000+ photos from Gran turismo Sport and GT7. Still room to spare.
Ill get an 2TB NVME once PCI 5x Comes out and drops these PCI 4x ones down like crazy. 2.5' SATA SSDs and HDD Disk drives have hit there price walls these last 2 years and wont get any cheaper no matter how far into the future we go.

So when compared to the numbers most companies advertise, Sony benchmark shows lower speeds and easily can fall below their Requirement, even though the advertised speeds online look to be enough. After viewing your video this morning, I got stressed up because I ordered an MP600 Pro LPX 2 days ago. Then looked again at other reviews, and they were all positives. It arrived about 20 minutes ago, installed it, and it took about 4 minutes to move 290GB of games on it. I’m guessing you have a defective unit, or you dumped static electricity in it while installing it, or something like that.

I think the problem you are having is access rate speeds. Any external drive is going to be limited by the bus speed of the USB port. USB access rate on the PS5 is SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps. But this does not apply to the front USB A port on the PS5. The USB C port on the front and both USB ports on the back are the SuperSpeed USB ports. The Front USB A port is only 1.5 MBps. The internet download rates are always the problem when attempting to test time trials. Using the same equipment, your time can vary. Why? Net storms, line quality degradation, different download locations, too many to list. With Sony, you have servers scattered around the country so the distance from you is as short as possible. But, if a node has high traffic, you might be shifted to the next location which throws a bunch of extra dynamics into the ball. Added distance along with the possible problems for all the connection points along that distance can turn a 15 minute download into a 3 hour affair.

If you look at 5:49 above where it says 1.541GB you'll see a cylindrical icon and 'M.2' on top of it, meaning it's in the PCIe slot.
Also, the USB A ports on the back are 10GB/s not 5GB/s. However this does not actually mean they transfer 10GB of data per second, the effective speed is actually around 1000MB/s or 1200MB/s depending on if they are Gen 1x2 or Gen 2.

Wobble from moving around a room when the drive is spinning or earthquake. Vibrating floor or stand can all make it read slower. Or a dvd or Blu-ray burner burn slower or even mess up a burn. So when burning like in the old days walk gently around the room lol some ssds and usb flash drives cheat to he faster. Some of the memory of fast until filled up then you get to slower memory space. But they can write to faster memory then move data so it's faster until a certain fullness, usb flash drives did this in the past anyway. Don't know of ssds do it but they write cache. So much goes into a ram or something then it writes later so it actually takes the same mount of time when doing it now. Safety remove then wait. But im in a hurry. I have had drives not write much at all then a pause in my putting files on it until i decided to eject and then ot writes when it should have been writing the whole time and im like. I need to go already. Wasn't faster because it didn't want to write at all until i clicked eject on a flash drive.

I got the 2tb 980 pro for about £250 on Amazon. No way I'm paying that for only 1tb

You need to have a better control for your tests to be consistent. I've had the Corsair drive for years with my PS5 with no issues and amazing performance even tried every test you said didn't work on the drive with my own PS5 without fail. Had to be a system issue on your end.
