I deleted social media a little over two weeks ago now, and I just wanted to share some benefits I've experienced so far.
Hey everyone. My name is Nick and here on my channel we talk about minimalism, frugal living, EDC, and overall self-improvement. If you don't mind me talking your ear off once a week about this topics, and you liked this video, consider subscribing to the channel. See you next time
I get sh!t all the time from my friends for not having socials. I find myself thanking them for the “extra effort” it takes to be my friend. But I do feel my connections with them are more genuine than it would be otherwise.
No one really needs Twitter. If anyone wants to share something, share that to a friend, a family member, a loved one.
Agreed, I particularly dislike twitter lol
@@NicholasGarofola twitter's a horrifying social experiment
Finally took the plunge on deleting all of my socials today. Inspired and eager to reap the benefits of life without SM. 😀
Wise decision. Good luck!
Two years later, are you still free of social media or did you go back?
I think using time wisely can mean doing nothing. One of the greatest pleasures of being human.
Agreed!
I deleted my Instagram and I never regretted it for a second 🙌🏼 great video!
Yes! Thank you!
Great video, Nicholas! I’ve personally found that the people closest to me never rely on social media for their main form of communication. Once I realized that, it was easier to step away. Thanks for sharing your journey!
All of your comments were so generous, thank you Joshua!! And yes this is absolutely true. I appreciate having you as a subscriber btw!!
I permanently deleted my IG and Pinterest account. Watching this is making me think that I need to pair down more 👍
Happy to see people are quitting social media. Do it. It’s good for you and everyone.
I'm an artist, and when I post my art, only 5 people max like it, really screwed me up. it took some time to make me realize that social media is crushing my passion and making me feel bad for constantly making me compare myself to others. so then I deleted ig and my Facebook is still there but no post no nothing. It's been great I feel much at peace and just focus on myself.
Well said!
It's very disheartening when you've spent so long on an artwork and it doesn't get much of a look in, it can feel under valued, while meanwhile, someone's sexy selfie gets 100 or more likes, a pic that takes 2 seconds to do. But luckily you don't hang your worth as an artist on likes. No one should anyway. It's a rocky foundation to build on
I don't even use social media, but I am definitely addicted to UA-cam.
Not being tied to social media is actually refreshing, I have 2 IG accounts one for photography(which is only for posting pictures and no interaction) and one for personal , after disabling my personal it feels quite refreshing not having the need to check something in the morning.
Agreed, about a month later I'm standing by my decision
Same, I only use Instagram for posting artwork. I don’t use it to blog, flaunt, or post everything about myself on the internet
I made the decision to delete all my social media accounts today .I kept UA-cam as it was never a problem for me. I found it really hard at first, but I'm feeling much more calm and not needing to go back
Glad to see more people talking about it ! When I saw TikTok and what people were mostly doing with it I got really disgusted. I quit all social media almost a year ago and only came back on Instagram to share about my online work and I really have no pressure nor stress since then because it's not about my personal life , it's to help others ! And it changes everything. Thank you for your video !
Tik Tok is just painful to watch, and I think social media is fine if we just use it for ourselves and not so much for others. Thanks Sara!
Congrats man, I did the very same thing. I ended up taking up drawing! Literally is one of the best things I feel I ever did was to quit social media. I’m Coming up to a year now!
Deleted yesterday at 50k - it’s toxic! It’s bad for the world and I just can’t be untrue to myself anymore. Have no more social media and I feel so free!
I don’t have to answer an ocean of people o don’t know to not seem rude, don’t get hate for my viewpoints, don’t allow strangers access to my life - and who the hell cares what I do anyway?! You shouldn’t!
I love your cat. B-roll with cat is always a good idea. So glad you decided to start this channel, our tiny minimalist subculture on YT is growing. I wish more peeps would make videos about the wonders of deleting social media!! I deleted mine a few years back and the benefits have been AMAZING. I don't feel like I've missed out on anything, my self esteem is on point because I'm not comparing myself to literally millions of people, and best of all I've saved thousands of dollars because I've stopped browsing and online shopping except for the essentials. Great video!
Those are very kind words I appreciate it!! It's true, I'm already finding new benefits after posting this video. Glad to see other out there who agree
@@latishatomlinso3303 100% true. Then it turns into a third of the video being a promotion
Glad that it worked out for you :) definitely had me worried when I saw you disappeared but really don’t blame you for doing this 💗
Thank you Vicky I appreciate it and thanks for reaching out!
i only have youtube but i still think i am to much on my phone...great video though!
Saaame here 😅
No FB, no Twitter, no insta ....
No news.
So much better x
I've uninstalled and logged out of my Instagram account, uninstalled the Facebook app off my phone, and pretty much never really use Twitter. I didn't want to put the pressure on myself for it to be a "forever" change at first, but as time went by and I found myself not really even needing or wanting to get on the apps, I'm finding that this could easily be a "forever" thing for me. It was never just because of time spent or wasted on them (I'm a master daydreamer so when I'm not on them I still find a way to waste my time by daydreaming hahah but at least that fuels my imagination, I'd much rather do it) but more because of the mindless scrolling, obsessive checking, and getting so desensitized to basically.. everything. It's so great seeing people like you talking about it- I also don't consider UA-cam the same as other social medias. It's a lot more slow and mindful to me, doesn't really have that fast-paced meaningless, "glimpses of life" type feeling, I feel a lot more immersed on here and I like that.
Go delete it or disable it.
@@AustinHollingerOfficial I'm actually making a video on it really soon, just filmed myself today attacking an Instagram-shaped piñata

Aaaawwww chilling with the cat 🥰 yes decided to get rid of my many social media but I'm thinking of just sticking to one...to keep in touch of relatives overseas but will see, I prefer none really.
I've not had any other social media but FB and that's become less of interest to me. I scroll through, finding updates on my international friends, inspiring stories and log out. Social Media is becoming Unsocial. It's destroying the human mind on so many levels and inclusive of anxiety, stress, harmful, anger and waste of a better quality of life. Honestly what you post, read on any APP will be forgotten by all within 1-2 minutes after. Nothing of substance. Let's get back to Face to Face. Hope your video resonates with many folks out there Nicholas. Thank you!
I used to get updated on social media all the time. Then I started not checking Facebook because a lot of people are just so negative. Then Twitter, then Instagram. At first it felt like I was missing a lot of updates from friends and family, but eventually I didn’t really notice anymore. I’ve moved on from the “check your feed” social media - now I usually just check videos (like this!) for entertainment or information.
Thanks for watching!!
That’s so true when they say they wanna meet but than change their mind just made me realize why I have social media and I just had it for no reason that’s why I deleted all social media. I think it’s best meeting people in person and get an actual text message rather than getting it on social media.
I am doing exactly the same thing right now...IT'S PEACEFUL...we all complicate life in the name of 'efficiency through Tech"...technology is great until you don't allow it to control you!
nice content keep going!!!
Well said!
That's a great, you did a social media detox! I've done them in the past. However, I do enjoy how time consuming and interactive they are tho. 😅😂
No doubt they are fun!
Thanks for this video. I’ve decided to delete my social media, I’m happier without it.
I made the effort to curate my social media rather than completely cut it out, as there are people I still want to connect with on those platforms. I think it all comes down to intentionality really. I have gone through stints where it has been beneficial to remove social media from my day-to-day life for weeks to months. However, if you find you do not want to completely remove it from your life I think that is okay too.
I've just deleted my Instagram account. Instagram is poison for the mind, really. Saludos desde España 😉.
Deleting is the best solution 👍👍
Thanks for this video, I finally quit social media for some reason so that I can gain my experiences of wanting to get my dreams come true.
Even I don't consider UA-cam as social media 😂😂🤣😂
I want to try this I m excited to stop using social media
Only 17 and deleted all social media 3 months ago, with no plans of going back. My only problem now seems to be UA-cam (as I spend too much time on it lately). By "too much" I don't mean 7 hours a day, but still a lot more than I'd like to. Do you have any suggestions on reducing YT time? Note that once I reduce YT time, I won't really be online ever (except school or reading articles).
Could you please do an update on how it's been now with 7 months no social media. I loved this video, I've been thinking to at least not mindlessly wonder on insta for no reason only if I get a message from a friend
Your videos literally inspired me so much! keep doing it Nicholas :)
Just found this vid.. loved it.. I only use you tube as well.. how have you managed over the last 12 months?
Never felt better
I limit my UA-cam time to 15 to 30 min a day and not every day and I don't watch the videos, I only listen them I watch videos that are only educational only what I really need to hear to success or to improve my mental health. . I stopped hanging out on all other social media accounts and I was able to be more organized, more creative, more successful and lovingly life more. My head can't stand to watch youtubers videos, so I listen to them.
i'm addicted to social media, insta reels, youtube shorts etc.. i want to get out off it FOREVER. i'm a youtuber and i want to keep my youtube but stop wasting time on social media. and use it only for business.
I already do similar, and I feel Good
I need to do this! Thanks for sharing.
2:18 cute 💜
Pure motivation 🙆🏻♂️🎯😎🙏♥️
I just quit using social media.I can’t bear with the censorship
I deactivated my Facebook account, it's been 3 years I've been without it and I don't regret it a bit
Im the New Subscriber ❤️🙏🏼❤️
Awesome! Thank you!
Social media has made people nowadays "unsocial"
How do ou get filmmaking clients out of social media ? Nice video!! Keep Doing!!
Very tricky, mostly through mutual acquaintances!
Less than a week for me. I hope I am going to be satisfied by the results...
I wish I could stop using social networks, but my job depends on it, to compensate, decrease access, I limited the Instagram app to 2 hours a day and uninstalled some of the phone, so I only access it at work. I turned off social media notifications too. But I still consume WhatsApp and Telegram a lot. It's so hard...Thanks for this video !
What job you do requires you to be Instagram?
@@ladybird491 I'm an architect, I publicize my work on social media
yeah now is a friday night sooo i need to start
If I didn't live in a different country than most of my family and friends, I'd happily go without. But it's the only means I have of keeping in contact with some of my family. I spend significantly less than an hour a day on social media (Screentime is reporting 11 mins/day for this week).
That makes sense. Being in touch with family would be important to me too in that case
Im a foreing in America. Got here in the beginning of the Covid. I use just WatsApp to my familly and few friends, but no groups and no notifications on. I never felt so happy!
i was thinking about that for a long time ago, and I did it finally two weeks ago. i didn´t really use them that much, so it was not a big change for me :)
i'm doing this at the end of 2021. no more of it.
I’m on day 10 of no Instagram and it’s awesome.
♥️
I only have instagram and youtube and I use them very little the truth and that leaves me more time to carry out more activities
Any advice for people who are remote & live on the other side of thr world from friends & fam?
That’s a tough one. I guess if I were in that situation, and didn’t want to be on social media but still wanted to be in touch, I would maybe set a time or a day every couple weeks or so where I could call the people I wanna talk to, to catch up. Just a suggestion
Is it okay to suggest? I do think that it's okay not to put any sound or music while you are talking in front of the camera so that we can focus more on what you are saying instead of getting distracted by the *tikling tiklin tikling* sound haha. Anyway, I do love your content. 😊
... or like put some kind of a calming sound that isn't too distracting.
Tikling sound 😂. I’ve been contemplating recently not having music at all, or just using it for some parts of the video (which is what I think I’ll do). So that will probably be the case starting with my next video. Thank you Myla!
@@NicholasGarofola sorry with the tickling sound HAHAHA
Lovely video! Question regarding social media as a tool for advocating your channel - have you found lacking things like Instagram has made it more difficult to advertise and interact with followers? 🤔 Did you perhaps find a better alternative?
I feel like the pros outweighed the cons in this whole experiment, and not being able to promote the channel is an obvious con. I'm leaving the exposure of my channel in the hands of the algorithm because that's where the most traffic will come from anyways. A great question
for me its youtube i spent the most time on 21u this week, thats a lot. 3u a day, but after work, i like it to relax, but a lot of the time i just site there doing noting, or clicking/watching things i actually dont want do watch, so, that is what i like to changs.
enyone tips? but i still like to watch people that maby have a postif impect on me, or where i can learn from, or gif a new perspectif
I do still enjoy some much needed mind-numbing activity. For me, it's anime
Thank you
Wow I realized I regret creating another ig account. Now im waiting on my 20th birthday (which is 3 days later) to delete it foreverrr I guess
There’s nothing wrong with having it if you get value out of it. Happy Early Birthday 😄
I deleted all Social Media accounts years ago.... and never looked back.
About to do the same thing
I wish I can find a way to stop my YT addiction once and for all, because I manage to quit all my other social media, but can't quit UA-cam
Great information and important for everyone!
Nicholas: I deleted my Instagram.
Me: clicks Instagram link.
😳😳😳
My average phone usage is freaking 13 hours a day!
TikTok counts as social media people
Is deleting social media only to start a youtube paradoxical, coz instead of worrying about likes and followers now you still worried about likes dislikes and subscribers
So the same systems in play like dopamine still work on youtube ..
The time you used on social media now your using on youtube ....it's like substituting one addiction for another.
Definitely can be. I guess it’s how you look at it. I try my best to make videos I enjoy, and post them regardless how I think they’ll do. I learned early on that it’s you’re checking the subscriber count constantly you’ll be discouraged. In my situation deleting social media allowed for more time actually making the videos rather than just refreshing the UA-cam creator app, but still you make a good point
UA-cam is social media dude.
deleted my instagram, snap, and titkok!! i’m excited
