  • Taylor from Hawk Performance shows you how to install their Talon rotors and HP Plus brake pads on our 2019 ford mustang GT.
    TALON ROTORS:
Experience matters, that's why the engineers at Hawk Performance have dedicated their highest in quality and dedication to bringing your S550 Mustang a brake rotor like no other. This has a DTC curved slot design that's top-of-the-line. Constructed to ideal OE specifications, weight, and production processes to fit with absolute perfection without the need for any modifications whatsoever.

    HP PLUS BRAKE PADS:
The high friction coefficient these pads have is great for racing environments, as well as any other driving conditions that require frequent, repetitive heavy braking. Hawk Performance HP Plus brake pads won’t heat up excessively and you will not have to change them out before heading home from the track or event. You'll have confidence knowing you have the stopping power necessary at the track and the peace of mind in having the right brake pads for the street. Utilizing a unique Ferro-Carbon compound, they are designed to withstand the intense heat of spirited driving with heavy braking. The all-new HP+ compound maximized stopping power and fade resistance to provide a longer pad life and lessened rotor wear. It can also be quieter and less dusty with some applications while exhibiting less temperature sensitivity, for improved modulation and driver confidence.

Just my opinion but the pad with the wear indicator should go on the inside. It seems to me the inside pad always wears faster.

Any weight savings on the rotor?

While I understand the desire for lower unsprung mass, the steel casting looks to be as thin as you'd want to go around the hub. Early 2000 Brembo brakes infrequently suffered friom shearing of the rotor disc from the hub, so it is possible to go too thin there. The rotor ring itself is designed so that it can absorb the heat that the brake system is expected to generate as it converts kinetic entergy to heat. These brakes are designed for repeated stops vs a drag racing brake that only needs to stop once, and therfore can be lighter. The way to get this system to weigh less would be to use a aluminum hub design instead of a casting. In theory, changing only the rotor rings can be cheaper, but I haven't found that to be true.

Do they already make, or do they have any plans for 2 piece rotors?

Curious about the coating on the rotors. Any reason I cant just hone that material off so that its track ready after install? Assuming the coating will stick to the pads, limiting my braking out the gate at the track

Increased performance on dyno testing with rotors? Doesn't make sense.

    • @wolfmannn2008

They have dyno for brakes, to test brake performance. Only the wheel hub assembly and the brakes are needed, connected to a motor that spins the wheel to 100mph and they stop it using the force of the brakes. They repeat this until the brakes fade.
They try different designs and the one they made was best at dissipating heat therefore it was the most durable.
