Respect your choice 100% for doing the official video. Love how you get into the vibe. Note that the lyrics here are censored. "Jesus won't you 'try and' whistle." really waters down the impact of the original lyric, "Jesus won't you 'fucking' whistle."
The Sober live video, while old and shit quality was amazing to watch Maynard not just sing the song but perform the song! I strongly recommend you react to it. It was the first Tool song I ever heard and I never looked back.
A live Tool concert is something to behold!! I've attended two over the years and never disappointed!! This is one of my favorites from them. Personally, I love the art of the videos.
You are a very smart woman, I know you don't need any validation from me but I wanted to compliment you on saying you feel like it is best to listen to the studio version first and you are most certainly right. In the studio version you can appreciate everyone in the band because you are able to hear each instrument and the vocals very clearly so you know what to expect from the live version. Kudos to you❤ This song has a deep dark philosophical meaning behind it. 🤔👍
Schism definitely a good choice for the next one, but if you want to hear a song from the album after this one (Undertow) then either Stinkfist or Forty-six & 2
just make sure you dont watch the oficial videos, they are distracting and have nothing to do with the actual song itself, search for lyric videos instead and your enjoyment will increase 100%
I think it's not really about you being used to watching odd things it's more about what it takes away from the composition on your 1st listen. Their compositions are chocked full of interesting and unexpected things. 👍 Glad you enjoyed it tho, ready for the next one!
The song is about addiction either to alcohol or drugs .I think in this instance it is addiction to alcohol. The why is because of addiction. the mind over body. I like the live version because it sounds just as good as the official .But Maynard's performance is superb.
The Grudge, Aenema, Forty Six & 2, Descending, Pneuma or Vicarious next, I reckon. I'd also recommend you check out 7empest and Lateralus, although you might want to work your way up to either of those, they are both VERY serious tracks ...
I know you've probably had guns and roses recommended to you, but try live in Paris 1992. wild horses and patience. merged into 1 song. amazing. I want it at my funeral. if you can watch without a tear, then you're not human.
It is important to hear the studio versions before the alternatives, good instinct. The live one sounds crusty in comparison but if you've heard the song then your mind can fill in for the imbalanced mix, leading to the proper enjoyment of it. Of course actually being there live sounds excellent but a microphone struggles to pick up everything all at once, plus crowd noise and minor echoes and all. But also definitely do the live one to experience the feeling his movements add to the lyrics (and how does he still manage to nail the vocals while writhing and hunching in a gold miner's onesie underwear?) The other common pairing is Pushit from the studio vs the Salival live version, but in that case the live one is almost completely different. Still, studio first makes sense.
Think the song is split, on one hand he is saying why can't I be drunk all the time, telling people putting pressure onto him to stop to leave him alone. Then on the other hand when he says ''why'' he honestly tells you, he is a worthless liar and will ruin other peoples life. As for Prison Sex, it is not what it seems from the title, it is one of Tools darkest songs IMO.
Early Tool music videos are edited for time and/or language. Sober had “fucking” replaced with “tryin’.” It wasn’t too bad. Do NOT react to Prison Sex or Aenema music videos. Those are completely bastardized by the censors. The Grudge is their best song in my opinion.
The videos are distracting because they have nothing to do with the song/lyrics. I am happy you didn't do the live video because the audio quality is not good.

Yes you must watch Sober live

One of my favorite peformances of all time...anyone who hasn't seen it should....
@@matchu.j I totally agree!
Undertow 1992 is my favorite Tool album! Sober is a track as well as many other great songs. It's a very rock n roll sounding album.
I love your reactions... "Pneuma" its highly recommended, specially the live version (Danny Carey performance its amazing). Nice sunday Olavity!!!!
I hope to see more Tool reactions

I am the person he is explaining... please never pity me, I will only take advantage of your goodness. I am evil, treat me as so. X
When you do Pnuema you have to do Danny Carey live Drum Cam before the studio version

Great song and video! Request please
System of a Down - Spiders
Marilyn Manson - The Beautiful People
Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams
Tool is great. Check out The Patient, H, Descending and get chills, maybe cry.
I love Tools videos. They are original and creative art and not manufactured lame videos
Studio version is best 1st...tool videos kinda crazy 😬 more tool baby!

😯
You need to check out some of Maynard’s stuff with A Perfect Circle and Pucifer. Do Edith by APC first.
Appreciate your reaction, dear.
Also I have a recommendation. Please check out the band ABOUT US. 🤘🤘🤘

❤❤❤❤❤
Prison Sex is lyrically disturbing but musically exceptional. A bit of an oxymoron. Be prepared when you react to that one.
That’s an understatement in both directions.
Just not "The Pot" music video with the snails. It's unofficial.
Great reaction. I like how you embrace the details. TOOL ARMY!!

Ola Pretty and Cute in Black 🖤🖤🖤🖤 ✔ ✔ 🔥 🔥 👀
First
it's a great decision, I love live performances but for a first listen with Sober the studio version is so good
Great Reaction
There's a reason fans suggest the live video... same about the music videos.. but what would they know LOL
Should have done the live.
The videos are distracting because they have nothing to do with the song/lyrics.
I am happy you didn't do the live video because the audio quality is not good.
