Oil change are easy on this. Filter on top of engine, out fumoto valve as your drain plug. I can have mine changed in 10min.
Sparks kind of suck especially on drivers side..but if you jack engine up a few inches it makes it soooooo much easier

Great Advice: "Don't beat the hell out of the early FB engines" Have a 2011 FB and I thought 8.6 seconds 0-60 is fast :-) No oil issues yet. 142,000kms (Canada Convivence Pkg)

I'm not just saying it's all those FB Models it's common on some. If you drive conservatively and do not wear the engine out. Keep changing your oil every 5k miles or in that in km. and you will be fine

I have a ‘11 FB25, the first year of that engine. It has 130k miles and I recently rebuilt it because it was burning and leaking oil. It took me couple tries to get it right. But the issue appears to be clogged piston oil drain holes and oil rings. All four piston were in similar situation, oil control rings and the oil drain holes were caked shut with carbon. Cleaning the piston and replacing the rings seems to have done the trick but time will tell. I will be going with 5k mi oil changes instead of whatever Subaru is saying. Also, more revving and less lugging the engine. Surprised how much better the engine feels and cools after the rebuild.

Anyone buying a Subaru should not expect a fast car but it will be reliable as hell.

Had 2 Foresters; an '11 and a '14. Both were traded with around 200,000 km (120,000miles) Both were oil burners but neither had head gasket issues. My "17 Outback with 185,000km has neither head gasket or oil burning issues, at least so far. Also, changed CVT fluid twice so far far.

According to “MrSubaru1387”, the FB engines are known for leaking oil from the timing chain cover; however, you are correct, they solved the head gasket issue of the EJ engines. Additionally, I change oil on our 2010 Forester(EJ-253), it’s no problem. Still, nice the FB has oil filter up top, but you still need to get underneath for the drain plug. Hope our Foresters go a long time!

Hopefully. As long as you don't do anything stupid that harms the engine. Also change your oil every 3-5 thousand miles your engine can last for a long time

Nice video. My rings are definitely worn as I’m consuming oil majorly. I’m looking to find an FB25 and revamp it before I put it in the car to minimize downtime. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find a full manual swap kit online for $500 😂

You might want to try to clean your fuel injector and clean out engine gunk by using seafoam or gumout then add AT-205 sealer into the engine to reseal those rings first. This is what I did, I put quarter of gumout into the engine and the rest into gas tank, then idles it for 15 minutes above 2000rpm. Then shut the engine down for another 15 minutes then change the oil. With fresh oil and filter, I added half a bottle of AT205 (full bottle is recommended, but I want to see if half is enough), then drive high way for 20 minutes, after that use the car normally. It has been close to 1000 miles, oil level is the same at full level. And then change your oil every 3000 miles or 3 months.

the 09-13 forester engines are super pricey. You can use a legacy motor or a newer forester. I just swapped in a 2016 Forester motor into my 2013 (bc of really bad consumption issues). 57k miles and runs like a dream

Try running some sea foam in the oil for a few hundred miles. Sometimes the oil rings get gunked and the treatment loosens the gunk reduces consumption. Oil rings in these foresters are known to be a weakness though.

That oil filter looks years old. 🤣

The engine has 110k miles on it now I changed it when it had 107k miles so when it gets 111 to 112k miles there's a next oil change.
