Here is my final review after living with the Borla S-Type Exhaust on my Mini Cooper S F56 (2015 model year) for a few months.
The look is fantastic, it finishes off the rear end of the Mini perfectly and looks clean as if it could come like that from the factory.
Sounds are incredible, especially in sport mode! Let go of the accelerator around 4,000rpm and you've got a lot of POPS coming your way. It's not too loud on start-up, it doesn't drone on the highway, and you can control the volume and pops with the driving dynamic controller. Mid mode/eco are louder than stock but still quiet at low rpm and sport mode is such a blast!

Man, you completely sold me on this. Perfect review and it’s just what I was looking for… not the ricey annoying continuous fart cannon. Was delivered today and took me ~25 minutes from cutting off the old muffler and clamping on the Borla S on my 2017 F57 S. So easy. Just installed a Borla S on my F57 convertible. Driving with the top down was such an amazing experience. It lets you hear it even louder. Absolutely love this upgrade. 😉👍🏼

Thanks for sharing! I have a 2014 F56 still with a stock exhaust. I've put in a cold air intake which has it's own unique growl but haven't made the jump to light speed yet. On my last Mini, I had a catback exhaust that was quite loud. Long road trips (I take a lot of those) were tough at times, but I loved the sound. It's nice to know that this system isn't overpoweringly loud.

Sorry it took so long to respond. It's a K&N system I got from Mini Mania. I like what it does, but I've noticed that my overall mileage has dropped off a bit. Not sure if it's the intake or just me stomping on the gas harder. :)

Always nice to see a manual in the US :-) I have the JCW exhaust on my 2015 Cooper S. The pops and crackles seem louder with the JCW exhaust than with the Borla or Remus. Anyway, it's all a personal matter but upgrading the stock Mini Cooper S sure makes the car even more fun to drive.

Maarten Hoeberechts I rarely see an S that's an automatic nearly all are manual in the US the newer S models the auto is more common but still rarer than a manual which is awesome when looking to buy one.

If I decide to upgrade the exhaust it’s probably gonna be Borla. Just got the cooper s in fact I think the stock exhaust sounds quite good.(for a stock ones)
Quiet in mid and green mode but enough pop and sound for sports mode.

I have an r53 with a borla exhaust and custom headers lol. I love it, my exhaust popping I thought would be much more obnoxious but they are about the same! I'm looking into a f56 S or JCW and I'm quite happy to know all the car noises will still be there just with a few less quirks! now I cant wait for my next mini!
hi, i want to ask u , have u a cat-back or just muffler on your R53 ? i recently buy a mini cooper s jcw r53 and i considered to buy bordla exhaust , but i dont know how it is goes with technical controls and i am totally amateur to this things so i dont know if cat-back have some problems with this or not . Also how it is pops and sounds ?
I learned to drive stick in the older supercharged version it's awesome car and love the whine I wish they made the supercharged version again because it sounds better than the later turbo cars to me.
Nice! This generation is even easier for beginners and I agree with you about the sound. Nothing like a Supercharger whine to get a super big grin on your face.
Your f56 s with the borla sounds wicked , props man. Pretty sure the pops happen after the downpipe or exhaust if u like is up to temp to ignite the unburnt fuel! Mine if swithched off and at a standstill for 5minutes or so will not pop until uv put some heat into it again!, cool vids man cheers🤘🏻😎

A few years later do you still love the Borla? I have decided to upgrade the stock exhaust on my 2017 Cooper S. Remus or Borla? My technician says Remus is a much better product. But it would be twice the expense to install. Sure you can control the sound with the valve feature but how much control does one need? Your video demonstrates that simply changing the mode to mid on the car quiets the exhaust if needed. From videos Borla and Remus sound similar. Your Borla video is well done and quite convincing. I just want an exhaust that is louder than stock because I like to shift gears to the sound of the engine. But not too loud. I am thinking that the Borla will do what I want. And at half the price.
Pook I highly recommend the Borla still and although I got rid of the car another F56S owner bought the exhaust from me and was very happy with it.

Hey there, great video again and happy to see that you are enjoying your exhaust so much. Just a quick question, i'm rocking same ride as you f56 mcs but all stock :(...The link you've provided for the Borla exhaust, it says Axle back, did you just install an Axle back or was it a full Borla catback exhaust system? Lastly, I'm just trying to research and debate which exhaust to go with; Borla, Remus, Invidia or any other brands out there.

I haven't heard the other ones in person but the Borla has been phenomenal and I love that it is quiet when I want it to be and a monster in Sport mode with my foot down.
I paid about $150 for install and Borla was kind enough to send me the exhaust for review, the price is right around $700 with shipping.
Hey buddy thanks for the prompt response, yeah i saw the video right after my post lol. Wow im surprised you got that kind of sound just from an axle back mod. Im still debating whether i should just do what you did or do a full catback exhaust. I know the stock's midpipe is pretty straight to begin with so there might be no sense to waste that money, you might have a biased opinion since you alrdy got the axle back ;p but what do you think? No point to waste the extra money for a full catback?
No point in spending the extra money, you'll love the setup and have a bit more cash left in your pocket :)

Thank you! It didn’t trigger a check engine light on mine and I haven’t heard of anyone else who had a check engine light triggered by it. Just make sure it fits on the 2019 which I believe it does.
Question about the exhaust...I was in a Ford Focus ST the other day and my ears were literally ringing inside the car because of how loud the stock exhaust was. Im thinking of getting the Borla exhaust for my 2017 Cooper S (manual), but want to make sure it's not going to be excessively loud inside while driving.
Juan that's exactly what I love about the Borla exhaust, it doesn't drone and is only loud when you want it to be. I just drove 1,248 miles last week (San Jose to San Diego and back with a few stops) and no headaches from the exhaust.
It'll sound similar to how your car sounds now just better/louder when your car gets loud now, aka in Sport mode with your foot down.

Driving a mini cooper JCW 2016, bought it with the regular exhaust but looking for a upgrade. Would you prefer a borla exhaust system? or a JWC pro exhaust or Remus
If money is no issue go for the Remus so you can get a valved system but I really do love the sound of the Borla and it’s fantastic bang for the buck.

All you did was swap the stock exhaust with the borla s type right? No other mods and everything else is stock besides the exhaust? I want to get this same exhaust for my 07 cooper s. Everything on my car is stock besides the exhaust I plan on getting so it will sound similar to this right?
Correct everything else on my car was stock in this video. Your 07 has a different engine setup than mine so it’ll sound a bit different but still really good with a Borla exhaust

Hey Prescott not bad at all! Just make sure to give the car about 10 minutes before you do that so that the oil can warm up

No issues at all when it comes to smog, you'll still keep your catalytic converter so you're good.

I have the 2020 4 door s and I can't decide if I want the cpw or something else. I'm more looking for the extra Hp than anything.
If you want extra horsepower get a tune. I had the JB4 and it was fantastic.

How much of a difference in sound would there be getting a cooper s with a sunroof instead? You don't have the sunroof version but seems like the pops and bangs can be heard fine. Would you recommend getting a sunroof version so that more sound can enter the cabin or not?
I recommend the sunroof for the noise and the sun! I really wish I had a sunroof

@@shouldigetit your welcome I have watched your borla exhaust videos many times and they are great. I am in the process of looking for a mini cooper s and there are not as many specced with a sun roof (in the UK) so not as many to choose from, but just have to be patient!
@@markbird7141 Totally get that! The Sunroof is the one option I wasn't able to get when looking for my perfect spec! Same thing with the Fiat 500 Abarth. There is typically a few inches less headroom with the sunroof. Regardless of sunroof or not I HIGHLY recommend the Borla as I'm sure you know :D
@@shouldigetit It seems we are cut from the same cloth you and I as my current car selection is between an abarth 595 or a mini cooper s f56. After watching countless videos the cooper s wins it for those pops and bangs! To get pops and bangs on an abarth 595 would require a remap I think. My previous car was a Jag F Type V6 S so I know all about pops and bangs ;)
I love your taste! Yes go for the mini. The pops and bangs are great as well as the twin scroll turbo making power come on earlier in the rev range.

Hey Mike, unfortunately according to the Borla website it does not fit JCW cars. Might work with a little modification but I'm not entirely sure. You could call Borla and find out 805.986.8600

Didn’t get a JB4 until a few months after installing the exhaust.
Thanks for your reply it helped to calm my fears. I was unsure about it because I have talked to several different mechanics and they were on both sides of the fence. One said you have to tune it when replacing exhaust and cold air intakes but another said you do not. Keep up the great videos!

Borla website says it will only fit 2014 or newer but other websites says its a universal fit. do you think it would fit my 2012 cooper s?

You have a second generation Mini whereas this Exhaust is for the third gen Mini.
Borla makes options for Gen 1 (03-06), Gen 2 (07-13), and Gen 3 (14-present).

What does Salt version mean? Yes it should work fine! Sounds like you’ve got an F55S or F56S similar to mine
You definitely have driving modes near the air conditioning controls if it’s a 2017

The engine is the 2 liter turbo 192 HP, manual transmission, but does not bring the driving modes.

+FaisoooooL the butt Dyno says yes. But this is more noticeable in the senses and probably not technical terms like 0-60 times. An intake + exhaust would certainly increase power and performance

Nope! Stock downpipe and midpipe.

@@vegeter_majin No BOV Adapter. Watch my recommendations video. My car had a Borla Exhaust, and Cravenspeed intake as well as JB4 tune. I believe when I filmed this video my only mod was the exhaust.

As long as it's an F55 S with the center exhaust, yes!
Why don’t they make this for the f55?
I believe it does fit the F55S! Call Borla and check but 99% it's the same install process and fitment.
How much horsepower
It adds about +10 horsepower. I have a Cravenspeed Intake and JB4 tune now as well so I'm probably around 230 horse.
Looks a bit too big for the MINI... I prefer the looks (and sound I think) of the JCW Pro exhaust. Personal taste of course.
Totally personal taste, thanks for watching. Surprisingly a lot of JCW owners I know say my car sounds just like theirs now.
Tbf the JCW exhaust is around £1200 as aliases the the Bora-s which is about half the price

More quick than “fast” but yes! Keep in mind my experience is with the manual transmission. Really loved my F56S and very much miss the car

R53 is the best of all times. All these electronic noises are shit. R53 does it without electronics.
R53 was a true pure bred. But the reliability and ease of keeping an F56S running hard on the road is nice :)
I had a Mini Cooper, and got rid of it before the warranty ran out. Too bad BMW owns Mini, there is no chance these cars will break out of the bad karma that BMW is so full of... AWFUL
Which generation Mini? These new ones are MUCH more reliable
