Gee Whiz is like an 'oh gosh', 'Dear me', a fluffy 'hot damn'. Journey's 'Faithfully' is one of the best Rock ballads.

They were huge. Their ability to harmonize with precision like that was emulated by many rock bands (the ones that had more than one singer). Loved 'em.

No I on the Billboard Top 100 , for 4 weeks, no I country charts , no 1 in the Uk . 6 weeks. They had lots of great hit songs , Cathy’s clown, till I kissed you, Bird Dog , when will I be loved , wake up little Suzy , and a dozen others . They were the best harmony singers ever, but as you mentioned being brothers they didn’t always get along. There live concerts were always fantastic. Very lively.

The Everleys were a big influence on Simon and Garfunkel who covered several Everley Brothers songs. You would love Simon and Garfunkel, listen to “Bridge over troubled water” - it’s just something else!

The voices of angels, so amazing, so happy that I could see them live. Phil and Don are iconic, after a successful career in each other's pockets they broke up for a bit, but they reconciled and had a huge round the world tour together, they even had a hit single written by Paul McCartney of the Beatles, the Everly brothers influenced all of rock and roll, they were the first group to be entered into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

The Everly Bros. were a HUGE influence on the development of rock & roll & pop. Their harmonies were astonishing. Their parents were professional singers and the boys were part of the act, they were singing together from a very young age. All I have to do is Dream was a HUGE HIT. Later on they did have a major disagreement and broke up for quite awhile. But in later years they re-united.

The Everlys were performing at Knott's Berry Farm in 1973, in what was billed as their final performance. During the show itself, Phil ended up smashing his guitar and walking off stage, leaving Don to finish the show without him. They would not perform together again for ten more years. They held a reunion concert at London's Royal Albert Hall on September 23, 1983, kicking off a world tour. I was lucky enough to get to see them a couple of times in Seattle in 1984, and they sounded fantastic.

Hi JayFlex! The Bee Gees acknowledge the Everly Brothers as an early influence for them.
Back in the day, many singing acts were far less animated than Elvis or Chuck Berry.

The Everly Brothers were more reminiscent of how performers acted in the 50's. That's why Elvis and the others you mentioned caused such a shockwave. 😂
I can name a few sibling groups in the 60's and 70's that apparently got along well. The Everly Brothers, Jackson 5, Bee Gees, The Osmonds, Heart.

The Everlys' harmonies are exceptional and hugely influential. Simon and Garfunkel in particular were very influenced by them, but the harmonies of The Beatles and The Beach Boys were also the result of listening to the Everlys. Don and Phil Everly were pretty near the first rock band to have any harmonies at all (themselves influenced by country groups like The Louvin Brothers), and any rock band ever since with harmony vocals owes a lot to them. And no, they didn't get on well! "Wake Up Little Susie" next? 💚

Thank you for reacting to Don and Phil Everly, the Everly brothers. You would not believe how famous these guys were back in the late 1950s and in the 1960s. They scored hit after hit on both sides of the Atlantic and greatly influenced other artists who came after them, including the folk-rock legends Simon and Garfunkel. The latter duo actually performed with Don and Phil years later.
The matter of whether the two brothers actually got on is perhaps a sore point for many Everly Brothers fans, because as you suggested tensions would eventually creep into the relationships between Don and Phil. They had been performing together as a duo since their early childhood success in the 1950s and this perhaps stifled each brother's sense of individuality.
I have heard it said that differences between the two came to a head in the late 1960s when one of the brothers just walked of stage during a live performance and the two never spoke again for many years. Happily, years later Don and Phil did get back together again and performed live and toured again as if nothing ever happened. They were older certainly but the magic was still there. Sadly both are no longer with us but their performances and recordings remain to remind us just how wonderful Don and Phil were.

"Gee Whiz" is a soft expletive that is acceptable in society, even from children.
"Gee" is an alliterative euphemism for Jesus.
I suppose English equivalents might be "good heavens" or "goodness gracious".
Both "Crikey" and "Struth" are harsher than "Gee Whiz".

Unchanged melody by them. There are few years older and they're actually on the talk show while they used to call them family variety shows..
Please make sure that it's the Andy Williams show and you need to play The Intro. Where they talk about the song I think you will find it funny.
Elvis came on the scene and through music for a loop.
The kids of the day which would be my mother's group of youth.
Elvis Went on the elid Sullivan show. And they thought who's wav. Dancing was sovogirl and so suggestive that they couldn't film him from the waist down, no joke..

They are from a musical family steeped in mountain folk music that was inspired by the British Isles music of the early immigrants to the region. They have one album where they sing those old songs. Early rock/pop was influenced by folk, blues, jazz. These same roots also became bluegrass and country music.

They broke up in 1973, did not speak to each other until their father died in 1975. After that they did begin speaking on the phone occasionally. In 1983 they reunited and from that point on they continued to record & tour until Phil's health detoriated. During the 10 years of separation both had moderate solo success. I believe their last appearance together was in either 2005 or 2007. Sadly Phil & his Angelic voice left us in 2014 & Don in 2021. At the time of Don's death their Mother, Margaret, was still alive at the age of 102.

@@l.l4456 My late husband Stan was working at the hotel that the Everly Brothers stayed at when they played in Bakersfield in 1983. My husband was the concierge (and also a musician), and spent a lot of time with the Everlys' manager and the band (he got to jam with them, he walked on air for a week!). The Everly Brothers couldn't stand each other! They reserved an entire floor of the hotel and were quite adamant about having their rooms on opposite ends of the floor. They got along fine with everybody else but not each other. Phil hung out with the band and crew more but Don kept more to himself. Their organization was top class though! The manager gave tickets to any hotel workers who wanted them and their families too! Of course we went and took our daughter who knew all of their songs because we taught them to her. You never would have known that they hated each other on stage. Total pros, both of them!
