I played this arrangement back in elementary school with our all-conference recorder band and, and let me tell you the percussion part where you bang your recorder on your partner for them to remember to yell mambo is hard as all heck.
I played second flute on this piece in North Carolina's High School All-State Band. This was an incredibly fun piece to play, and I would most definitely play it again!
We played this for a school concert, and we shook everyone. It was such a joy. However, being a clarinet player, the opening melody and the closing version of the same melody was jumping three octaves in about two bars, and it was really hard.
Cindy Li I get ya, our band has a concert tomorrow night and we’ve had about 7 days to rehearse. I play clarinet and lemme tell you, it’s gonna be interesting
I just played this at a clinic and I struggled the entire time. I played the Xylophone part. I ended up using yarn mallets because I just knew that I was going to mess up during the concert 😓
Been watching this like crazy. My goal to do this. Had a lot of the instruments... Just now finishing up adding the latin percussion stuff.Building a castinet machine this week. I don't buy a whole lot of things new.. I did buy a Miller Machine though... Now to find the music parts....
as a tuba player this piece is very confusing to read and listen to at the same time😂, all the upbeats sound like the down beat and it doesn’t feel right to read upbeats and hear downbeats.
Hmm. I played this on clarinet. On the one hand, it made me better at playing high notes. On the other hand, I have yet to see how messy it comes out when the recording is put together (we played this virtually bc of Covid)
We are learning this right now in band... us trombones are hanging on for dear life 😭 the band director doesn't let us play it slow at first for us to understand it. Then claims we aren't trying. Like... WHAT?!
Nobody:
My band at last rehearsal: mAMbO
XD
Lol
I’ve played this song on every instrument used but the trombone and clarinet were by far my favorites to play for this piece
😊
Legend has it, if you play this at 2x speed you will simply implode.
…I watch everything on 2x so it feels completely normal to me
So far nothing is wro
True
I played this years ago. 1.15x was the actual speed

Fabulous performance of a fabulous arrangement of a fabulous piece! Bravo!

2:07 I love how rustic that band sound is.
Played this on 1st Alto Sax for two concerts this past week. Our Brunswick Concert Band played at about 2/3 this tempo and it was hard enough!!
Saxaphones all the way!
Played second alto it was pure suffering our band literally didn’t play it correctly until the comcert
I played second flute on this piece in North Carolina's High School All-State Band. This was an incredibly fun piece to play, and I would most definitely play it again!
Armagon Armagon thats me this year
fun if you have six pairs of hands
I played this last year!
TROMBONES ALL THE WAY
My high school band did this piece as part of our marching band show back in 2000 (West Side Story). I played the tenor sax part back then. Fun times.
Any percussion instrument in this song is the best to play
Gotta play alto sax 2 for this. I want to cry
Haha I did my freshman year😂
This piece is a love hate relationship with me.
edit: nevermind i just simply love it
-a trombonist
It's all hate for me lol, I play tuba and I just don't really like the song in general.
As a trombonist who must master a large section of this to get into symphonic band, I both hate it and respect it for the amazing song it is.
It’s alright, but when I first saw it and how fast it was I nearly died
-a clarinet
Oh my lord. Trombones all the way, plus just got moved to second sooooo....
MAMBO
0:44 I LOVE THIS PART
Yeah just got the sheet today and I can already tell how much fun I’ll have on it.
- 1st trombone

True… true
The definition of thinking it’s easy then realizing it’s in cut time
Jesus this is hard!!
"grade 4"
That means band grade 4, not solo grade 4 xd
we love descending arpeggios on the bassoon part! had to tackle this after not even learning bassoon for a year
This is the song that played at my feild trip st the orchestra and we would say the “MAMBO!!”parts XD love this song
Playing this on trombone and it's one of the most fun pieces I've played
What a beautiful fast pace piece of music.
Never played this in band as a kid, but did play Bernstein's Overture to Candide. Bernstein was crazy. Then again, most geniuses are.
Played this at Allstate last year and it was the height of my freshman year
*casually slips in that you were in AllState in your freshman year* XD
We did this for marching band one year! :D
absolute legend
Half of these comments are for trombones
CLARINETS ALLLL THE WAY
hell yea
Crying because of the difficulty but yesss! Clarinets!!
The mallet part.....is too fast.....or I’m just not good enough
I just played this at a clinic and I struggled the entire time. I played the Xylophone part. I ended up using yarn mallets because I just knew that I was going to mess up during the concert 😓
After all these years, I’ve finally found it!
I'm getting ready to play this for a district band and I'm so excited
I have to play this piece for festival this week and my band is not gonna be able to at this rate.... so many hard parts. Even on third part.
Love this song TROMBONE 4 LIFE
I'm first clarinet and it's crazy high, but crazy fun to play!
Grace Serres I’m second
I’m might be crazy, but I want it higher
Tyra JB5 second was the worst because it was constantly crossing over the break and back in that kinda uncomfortable range (if i remember correctly)
Same!! This has got to be one of my favorite pieces of all time that I've played on clarinet
The part sucks to play, but sounds beautiful
Mambo!
I'm playing this in 8th grade. My favorite piece. Go trumpets!
yoda seattle me too but go clarinets!
Go trombones!
8th grade?!?! I’m so sorry for the clarinet section. This song’s great but is hell to play.
this piece goes so bonkers
I loved playing trumpet 1 for this in middle school
I'm playing the Timbales for this in concert band... I'm scared. XD
Its easy
この曲好きだったので、スコア提示してくれて、有難い。これを作曲したバーンスタインは、すごいね。
Any percussion peeps out there? No? Just me? K
Emma Pieniazek Me! Hiya!
I'm sorry
You got me
Been watching this like crazy. My goal to do this. Had a lot of the instruments... Just now finishing up adding the latin percussion stuff.Building a castinet machine this week. I don't buy a whole lot of things new.. I did buy a Miller Machine though... Now to find the music parts....
trumpet is so fun on this piece...
*MAMBO*
Great arrangement.
We played this for our Pops concert I play the bass clarinet by the way I love this piece I would play it again
Is this the same arrangement from "Symphonic Dances from West Side Story"? It sounds like it.
Mastacheifa 118 yeah I think so
No, not the same but a good one nonetheless. The range for a lot of instruments are lower and some of the parts are different.
as a tuba player this piece is very confusing to read and listen to at the same time😂, all the upbeats sound like the down beat and it doesn’t feel right to read upbeats and hear downbeats.
Where my tenors at??
Tenor Sax and Clarinet player here. Played this piece at the UNCG Honor Band when I was in 9th Grade.
yess
@@kyleparker7876 whatt omg so did I
Heh I am playing the one from Paul Lavender and the second Tbone part is partial up a octave. But its fun to play.

3- 2:06
I'm attempting to play this for the DCYO as the piano. It is ridiculously difficult!!!
Hmm. I played this on clarinet. On the one hand, it made me better at playing high notes. On the other hand, I have yet to see how messy it comes out when the recording is put together (we played this virtually bc of Covid)

Welcome to the squad
This song is so fun, but it’s HELL TO PLAY🫠
im playing the sneer drum in this song
"sneer" drum boi
Are you sure you learned the names of instruments in percussion???
We are learning this right now in band... us trombones are hanging on for dear life 😭 the band director doesn't let us play it slow at first for us to understand it. Then claims we aren't trying. Like... WHAT?!
I have 4 days to learn this.
I'm still bitter about my conductor making me 3rd trumpet for all the rehearsals then the hour before the concert putting me on 1st
Trombone 1. Wish me luck.
Tubas gather here
