Absolutely love the color choice, you did such an amazing job. I would stain the table and chairs the same as the desk top you can always add cushions to them to give pops of color.

👀Clicked on video bcos the dark wall caught my eye. 😉Find black cabinetry to be quite handsome, but fear it could be too imposing.
⚓The Navy is beautiful, esp. w/those brass sconces, hardware & naturally stained desktop bridge. Brilliant merchandising w/combo of those lighter & more natural elements. Like the "good day" signage that brings in black element too.
💚 Your idea of staining the table to match sideboard/ desk seems highly appealing. Like the notion of 2 long benches stained to match. Not a fan of lopsided table w/chairs on one side only.
Maybe introduce a striking, but simple centerpiece? My preference would something in black that spans more width of table surface. Something that will make the table a destination in & of itself. Maybe a long iron/metal candle holder; a long slim oval or rectangular shaped tray featuring a trio of potted succulents (1 bigger pot, flanked by 2 smaller ones in a row); Or, an ebony stained chunk of wood w/holes cut in for tealights.
👍Do like idea of two black end chairs in the above configuration. Maybe the other two chairs of set flanking some sideboard that they can "borrow" back for dining area when needed.
If they wanted more formal dining, they could always temporarily slide one bench under desk bridge/sideboard & the other against the entry wall. The latter could be left plain or dressed like a console table.
🤔Personally, I need more navy (or blue) in that room. Maybe the back of the front door. As well as navy painted frame of wall art or mirror on entry wall (opposite the built-in). Something to help balance that major visual color weight. And, make it seem more cohesive & deliberate.
Maybe a small trio* of navy (or indigo blue & white) decor items on that white cabinet. Something to help eye draw my eye around with that intense blue color. That's just my take.

OBSESSED with this! Especially because the blues and greys in your rug compliment the wall and make it super cohesive! For me, I would have probably changed out the rug to something really bright or a muted light blue bohemian printed style rug, painted the chairs white, and added some padded seat cushions in either the deep blue accent wall color or a black to ground the space but keep the floor look bright. Just a thought! But i absolutely love the way this room turned out, whew so much work for so much payoff!

You got yourself a very healthy looking fiddle leaf fig! Beware they can be divas as they don't like change but once you get them in a good spot and you know how to water correctly, they're pretty easy! Best tips:
    1. They like really bright, indirect light. I keep mine a few feet in front of a south west facing window and it has been doing really well there.
    2. Make sure it is potted in a pot WITH DRAINAGE holes and well draining soil. Without good drainage and if you water too often, FLFs can get root rot.
    3. Let the top couple of inches of soil dry out before watering and then water until the water comes out of the bottom. Try to find a somewhat regular watering schedule that works for your conditions and then stick to it as FLFs can get edema in their leaves with inconsistent watering.
    4. Gently wipe down the leaves every once in a while as they can get dusty, which can block the light from directly hitting the leaves.
    5. Make sure you keep it away from any vents as they don't like drafts.
    6. Only repot and/or move locations when necessary as, like I said, they don't do well with change and can throw a fit by dropping a bunch of leaves :(
A lot of people will talk about humidity but personally I don't live in a humid climate and I do anything to increase humidity and my FLF has been going pretty well!

Building all of these shelving units yourself with 1/2” plywood and some trim boards is definitely the way to go on a project like this. I’m just now getting into the home diy woodworking thing but attempting to put together individual pieces of furniture to create what looks like built in shelving just seems like more trouble than it’s worth.
With a few sheets of plywood and some trim, you can easily cut everything to specific dimensions, eliminating the need to make pre-made units fit into non-standard spaces.
You guys did a great job either way and it looks fantastic but I would definitely agree that all of that time and money spent at ikea would have been better spent building something that would fit perfectly the first time. My wife and I just bought our first house and this type of project is probably going to be the first big thing I decide to tackle. I think we’d have fun doing it. Plus, it’s a great excuse to buy new tools, which is always a plus.

i'm new to plants but this is what i have learned from my own fiddle leaf fig:
water it whenever the soil becomes dry, they love humid environments, and keep it within natural light but not too close to a window!! hope this helps!

  • @user-ts7pm7if2i
    @user-ts7pm7if2i 3 роки тому +1

For the fiddle leaf fig, bright light, away from air vents, and drying out between watering though it does like for the soil to be a bit moist. (Water when the top 2” or so of soil are dry, I HIGHLY recommend a moisture meter.) Rotate it periodically so the plant grows even.

amazing make-over....very couragous and creative choice with the cabinet paint colour.....if you think the decor in the cabinet looks too much like something from a home office that is ok if this is the look you wanted....if you wanted it to look more like a dining room eating kitchen feel just swap out the decor for different items, like wine bottles or a portable wine rack, put some dinner plates on the shelf, a teapot set, or a tray with shot glasses and or a decanter....if you want to be able to swap the look quickly without needing to shop for items on the day of cooking for a dinner party, just set aside space in the lower cupboards to store the kitchen type decor.

Fiddle Leaf Figs are VERY finicky!!! Get a water meter because a lot of the issues people have with them boil down to overwatering and subsequent root rot. They like to dry out in between waterings and a water meter will help you figure out if it's time to water (normally every 2 weeks is probably fine, but it depends on the amount of light and how large the pot is - with mine, I check the water meter level at the end of week 2 and decide how much longer I need to go from there). Put it in bright indirect light (basically 6ft from of a window at the most) and if it seems to be doing fine in that spot then DON'T move it!! They don't react well to being moved lol good luck!

I agree everyone at Home depot are so nice. Plus the live and you learn part is the best part! It furthers your knowledge when coming to DIY home improvement. In the 3 years we have lived in our fixer upper I have learned countless things and a lot of them I would do different now! But to me that is the fun in it!

Love the color choices and the idea of making the dining room multipurpose. I'd paint the chairs to match the bookcases or do them white and have seat cushions that match the navy. But I'd keep the table the lighter wood color so it avoids the matchy-matcy look. And yes, using the desk area as a buffet is a great idea that never occured to me. Love Lone Fox, too and this wonderful makeover !! Thanks for sharing

Have you considered cutting the back of the plywood for the desk a little more so that it matches with the cabinet edges? It might blend a little better! Love the end result

Great job! Personally though, I would add some color on those shelves. Maybe a few orange items and a few more plants and baskets to add a softer more natural look. I love it though!

I love the dark color at first I thought it was black but then I saw the color. I wouldn’t have gone with that color but you definitely made me want to add some dark colors to our home❤️ it all looks so nice

This was so entertaining! You've earned yourself another subscriber!! Also when I paint, I normally use a hard sponge glued onto a stick and run that on the edges first, and it makes it so much easier. I got the idea from a The Crazy Life basement makeover video.

I personally like lighter colours for the dinning room. If it was my house I would have painted the cabinets in grey or light green. But I have to say what you did here is amazing! I really love it. The contrast between the dark colour and the white walls is perfect. I really like your channel and your makeovers. They give me a whole bunch of ideas that I didn't think could work. Thanks for sharing them!

Beautiful job. Very useful as well. One thing I would have changed is to make the desk thinner so when you added the trim it would have been the same depth as the base cabinet. I love the idea of added trim to give the appearance of thicker wood on the desk.
