Of all the places in a house that need cleaning the most, the kitchen and bathrooms are number one. I just don't get how people can cook and prep in a messy or dirty kitchen. Why not clean up after you're done cooking.
@@anneann9127 She means like deep cleaning, your not going to deep clean your kitchen each time you cook. Some people don't have a lot of time to clean. People have different lifestyles.
People are so funny.. I always see videos that are like "EXTREME MAKEOVER" and the person like changes the curtains and changes decor. Meanwhile you're painting the cabinets and the floor and completely changing the feel of the room and doing an AMAZING job. You guys nailed it!
To me this kitchen makeover was so comprehensive because it showed a relatable, realistic view. I watched from start to finish and really enjoyed the process.
I love seeing all the nitty gritty details and hard work you put into this! I helps me appreciate the end result and make me feel normal for how long my projects take.
As a caution to anyone who is thinking about it, even though it is trendy, going to open shelving results in regret. Everyone, I mean everyone absolutely loves it for the first couple of months. After that, it is 100% regret as it becomes a burden to rewash their dishes for everything from dust, grease, cobwebs, pet fur and bugs. The cabinet companies are making bank with people tearing them out and replacing them within a couple of years. I'm really glad she kept her cabinets.
I chose just a couple of open shelving and made sure it would be dishes I used often to avoid that issue. Actually, every decision made in my remodel was #1 will dust accumulate on it and #2 how easy is it to clean. At 50, I'm on the minimalist, easy to clean, path because I'm to old to be stuck cleaning all day lol
@@BLibs It's good you thought it through. :) I love the look of open shelving but I know that it can be an extra step. I hear you on the not wanting to clean all day. And 50 is NOT old. :)
I like what they’ve done here but I’m also one of those people who likes the idea of open shelves. It makes the space feel bigger and less claustrophobic having cabinets right up to your shoulders while working. I’d take out the upper cabinet just to the right of the sink and live with it for a while, see how they like it and if they don’t reinstall it.
Several years ago my husband and I painted the kitchen cabinets and bathroom, white. It's been a good 10 yrs or more. Once a month my 6'3" husband gave them a good cleaning. Cabinets are still looking great. Congrats on ur kitchen. Floors look good.
Your first home if it’s a doer upper is hard work but so satisfying, well done, you’ve done a great job. As a grandmother who has always done DIY and my own renovations the only tip to people wanting to do up their home on a budget is You Tube. Watch a lot of Reno videos and talk to friends , family, tradesmen etc and just go for it. Bedrooms or passages/entryways are good as first projects, then living rooms/dining rooms. Kitchen and bathrooms can be the most challenging requiring special paints for the cabinets and floors. This is an excellent video to show how the hardest and usually most expensive room in your house can be done up on a budget.
You have officially convinced me to get a paint sprayer to redo our kitchen and bathroom cabinets. That looked so much quicker, and the finished product looked amazing.
House owner hint, under kitchen sink, put your “stuff”in a dish pan or plastic container, like a bussing bin. When the plumbing fails, which it will, you’ll have a container to catch the water. The container will also prevent the staining that goes on from the “stuff”. This concept has saved my under sink cabinet and my daughters. It’s the first thing I put under all sinks.
Beautiful job! Several years ago I painted my cabinets white to hide the awful heavy-grained oak veneer. It was a job-and-a-half and then some, but so worth it. I wish I'd invested in a sprayer, it would have gone much faster. I also repainted the room a nice yellow; back in the 1990s I'd done a faux finish on blue which was too much pattern against the oak veneer cabinets as well as being too dark. Now I LOVELOVELOVE my kitchen.
The lighter cabinets & floor do make the space seem larger. My husband usually does the painting, but I have primed & helped with most of the jobs over the years & in all the homes where we’ve lived. Kudos to you both for tackling this project together. Can’t wait to see the next part.
On your IKEA piece, you can flip the drawers back to front, paint that side white and add coordinating mobs to the cabinets instead of the finger holes. Great makeover btw. You should do a cost breakdown/ final tour video when you get it all finished.
It’s incredible what a little paint can do. I’ll be honest, I was skeptical with the floor: but it looks great compared to what was there! You clearly did your research: love the liquid sand paper, glad to hear it praises sung and that it works well. The cabinets with the new pulls look AMAZING. Great job and team work :)
I don't have a "favorite part" exactly.....it turned out beautiful. I was blown away by the floor. When you started that and said what you were going to do I thought oh man.....but, it turned out really nice and it looks like cement, love the texture on it. I would do that. I've seen sandy beaches with ocean waves painted on a kids floor and wall but this, this is another option. It's beautiful....thank you so much for sharing. Each piece was awesome on it's own, but, together....doable, livable, beautiful, and it flows.......thanks again.
We just painted all of our cabinets gray and we used a regular sander and it was a lot of work! I wish I would’ve known about the liquid sandpaper 😂 would’ve helped so much
Peel and stick tiles. For under the sink. Prevent chemical and water spot damage. Also, Storage containers to hold those items you're putting back. Believe me. Easy to pull the drawer out and grab what you need.
The Ikea draws looks so good with the top sanded down and the rest painted white, I love the floor too! its really good to know there's a good way of covering old flooring without spending a bunch on a whole new floor or spending ages painting mock tiles! Its really reassuring to know you can get such a good end result with out spending a crazy amount and by doing it yourself.
loved the end result and also a little tip for future projects to remove sticky foam like stickers use nail polish remover aceton based dab with cotton pad wait 5 minutes and you can easily remove with a spons
there should be a law against ugly cabinets and ugly floors. i have never had pretty cabinets or floors anywhere i have lived. this helped me so much with do-able ideas. Great upbeat music btw!
When we renovated our kitchen cabinets, we had some second hand plain beige type coloured linoleum off cuts from a friend and ended up using them as liners inside the cabinets to make them easy clean
Wow, it really is just like a new kitchen! The repainted cabinet doors are the best, and look amazing. You've done so well - imagine how much it would've cost to get it done by others, where would the satisfaction have been? And yes, watching the doors being spray painted was immensely satisfying! Good luck for all the rest!
honestly this was the most sensible and realistic makeover lmao. i dont even consider ur old kitchen "needing a remodel" but u wanted to and u popped off ❤️
It all came together beautifully. My favs are the cabinets/pulls and the floor. The gray goes great against the stainless steel appliances and its texture looks like concrete!
Oh wow amazing. The designs are very creative and beautiful. I also decorate the rooms with product on the website:daisycorners.com/. There are also interesting furniture products here. The rooms have completely changed when decorated.
So glad you bought a paint sprayer to do this work. Not only does it take a fraction of the time, it gives a much nicer finish. Everything looks great. Will be interesting to see how well your floor paint holds up, looks like you did the most robust job you could with something like that.
First time viewer here. Thank you for being so real!! Girl, everyone has grime in the kitchen. I love that you shared that part. And the parts where things didn't go exactly as you expected them to. Finally someone shows how it goes in the real world. And headbutting the cabinet door had me giggling forever...definitely needed a good giggle right now. Great job so far! Can't wait to see it all completed.
Ugh yes, so thankful for this video. Moving into a house at the end of the month that has the same type of flooring in the kitchen, that ugly sheet vinyl, but all other flooring has been updated in the house. I've been stuck on what to do with the floors - ours are even uglier than yours were - because I really don't have the patience or physical ability to lay those peel and stick tiles. Love the almost concrete look of the floors after the paint.
You are amazing woman who has strong hand abilities! 😊You are absolutely spent a lot of time to setup the kitchen and organizing the things, clean and bright kitchen impressive me a lot!
This is sooo wholesome and makes me want to tear down everything and redecorate, but me being me, I'm sure ill just spread the paint across the floor, give up and forget that ever happened 😂
We are half way done with our kitchen doing the same makeover. Small side done...learned a few tips along the way. Lol The larger side will probably go way faster now that we know what to to skip and what to definititely NOT skip. LOVE your makeover! Its beautiful!
I am extremely impressed by all of this hard work turned into a Wonderful Family Masterpiece! You are obviously a girl on the go who knows what she envisions and says "Yes" let's go for it!! Awesome as a couple to value your home so much as you both do "together ". I wish you both happiness!!!! P.S. Dont forget to reward yourselves with a date night!
I bought vinyl tiles at Home Depot to stick under my sink. Easy to cut and fit and it looks so much better! And, it’s easy to clean... GREAT JOB! It’s looking sooooo pretty!
Oh wow amazing. The designs are very creative and beautiful. I also decorate the rooms with product on the website:daisycorners.com/. There are also interesting furniture products here. The rooms have completely changed when decorated.
Great video. Under the sink though a good idea would be to lay some linoleum or something along those lines so that when spills happen you can wipes it up .. they have the stick and peel squares and they work very well
Hi Carissa!! I just found your channel, and so glad I did! I wish I knew I could paint my floors in our old condo because we had floors just like those. The brick stick on paper really brightens it up! Can't wait to see the little coffee nook. Keep up the great work!

I've purchased paint like you and am going to paint 70 year old linoleum!. I also have the same counter/bar. You're doing what I'm planning on both, how cool. Love the insight. Thanks for sharing.
Well done!! My favorite part is the little ikea bar wall. Great wallpaper too. The only suggestion that I would make is that you extend your cabinets to the ceiling. You guys are very handy and so I am sure you could do it.
"The sun is shining and the tank is clean" from Finding Nemo quote was the second reason I subscribed. The first was the painted floor. I CANNOT wait for an update on wear and tear. Is it worth it? Looks fantastic.
Inspirational. The floor turned out GORGEOUS. the cabinets made a huge difference!!! I absolutely love the area you used with the shelf just beautiful. Really a room you want to be in. Clean and inviting.
I was also going to suggest trying Barkeepers Friend liquid. It's mildly abrasive and has a mild acidic ingredient, great to get any kind of crud off anything and not fumey or smelly.
Yep, was wondering the same thing - how do you paint the floor without first moving the fridge and stove? At a bare minimum, you can pull out the oven drawer and make sure to paint under there. I would be worried about the old flooring showing if you don’t remove those items first.
I love the theme of your kitchen, so bright and modern looking. I love ur wood shelves and your carpet too. I just can't get over with the whole makeover. I can feel the effort with both couples, so sweet.
I love the song "cruising down to Mexico, turning up the radio" I can't find it anywhere. who is singing and what is the song. Also I just found your channel last night and now I'm obsessed.
I LOVE everything you did. I, too, have painted floors before and it's always worked out. HOWEVER, my OCD won't let me forgive you for painting around the appliances and not finishing off the whole floor (lol)
Omw same, all I'm thinking is what if the fridge or oven breaks one day and they get a smaller one that doesn't cover the unpainted part? I really wished they'd moved that out to do the whole floor

Small kitchen? I dream of that much space. I have watched your reveal video, you did a great job, the kitchen looks great.
You’ve increased the value of your home!
Good job!
I ALWAYS end up with paint in my hair and somewhere on my arms or legs that I don’t see until later when I tackle projects. 🤷🏻♀️
Same every time 😅
I loved this!. It just shows you don't need new things, you just need some guts to redo what's there! Great job guys
I repainted one of my kitchens with a brush, it was a nightmare. The sprayer would have been a game changer
Was there bad looking brush lines?
