So glad you mentioned the AF issues for Video, I've also owned a 1DX ii and C200 and notice a difference.1 tip i can suggest because I shoot a lot of music videos with the talent moving around a lot is to turn eye AF off. It will hunt a lot less.
Hey Damien, something I learned over the past few months that may help you: the focus hunting you are experiencing is most likely from using eye autofocus in video mode in low lit areas. I was experimenting with “vlog” style videos, and I saw the camera constantly hunting when using eye AF. As soon as I took eye AF off, the hunting was reduced by 80-90%. I think the camera struggles to find your eye in low light, causing it to hunt. Everybody praises the EYE AF, and don’t get me wrong... it’s great... but only when used in well lit situations. This was my experience with both my 15-35 RF Lens and my RF 24-105. Hopefully it helps.

The problems that I have are that I get a lot of moire and artifacts on medium and wide angle shots. Also my image looks a lot less sharp on wide angle shots. Am I doing something wrong?
@@AlChered Yes this why I'm a bit confused, a lot of youtubers says the 1080p is amazing, but it looks like it softer than the A7III. Aaron Asai all I is available in both 1080p and 4K. In 4K, the 480mbps is 380 more mbps than Sony gives you. The 1080p is roughly 180 mbps, which is also 80mbps more than Sony gives you 4k. All-I and high nitrates are a much bigger deal than worrying about the 1.7 crop. Just use a wider lens.
Josh Zaring cool, thanks! I agree. I shoot Fuji so I’m used to crop. I have good bitrates but I want full frame and eventually when I got cinema it will be canon so I’d rather start investing in canon glass than to stay in the Fuji system.

A really appealing part of the Sony is the small lightweight lenses imo. If Canon's RF mount gets some lenses like that soon I think it'll be a huge selling point for their new mirrorless cameras.
@@damiencooper Those 2 Tamron zooms for Sony, the 28-75 and 17-28, if Canon gets something like those for their mirrorless mount without needing an adapter that'd be great. Small, light, and much cheaper while still producing decent results for most people. (and great for traveling)

also, what bitrate do you export your videos in both for 1080p and 4k?
Monkeypixels I tried to look into it and if you open the file on QuickTime and click on “show inspector” you can see the video bitrate! For 1080p it’s around 22mbps! :) don’t know about 4K though
Monkeypixels right click on the resulting file and the details will be right there.
Great review! Lots of good info in here, and your model (girlfriend? wife?) is gorgeous. She 'speaks' well to the camera. I still have to get into my EOS R, and I also got the Weebill S gimbal, so I'm looking forward to some great shooting ahead. Thanks for the review.
Monkeypixels hahaha! I can't imagine it's the first time she's heard that. Good review all around.👍
Can you gimbal the 28-70 f2?
Monkeypixels Thank you!
Like your review and the shoots from Vienna! Grat! I also think to sell my GH5 and get one EOS R.
Thank you for a detailed nice review. I was eliminating all my other choices to buy this Camera and your review helped a lot. My purpose is for shooting kids on action, birds, animals, portraits & landscapes. I am not sports shooter or pro wildlife photographer. Would you recommend EOS R in such case to me? Regarding budget, I dont mind spending for a great product but I do not want to regret after purchasing it 🙂.. I personally wish to go for this, still it will be great if I can hear from an expert like you. Also, kindly suggest me any 2 great lens which i might use frequently for the usage I mentioned. Once again, Thank you so much for this video. I subscribed your channel..🙂👍
schöne Aufnahmen in Wien ..
What’s the 1080p All I bites? Is 4K only 480mbps?
Does Manual focus works with any lenses, even adapted manual lenses as well?
The ones that has focus confirmation (golden connectors on the rear).
@@krische1363 you mean all EF and EF-S lenses works?
dimitrimoonlight not only efs ef. I have an old manual tilt shift lens with EF focus confirmation adapter and it works.
Super Video! Bist Du Österreicher?
shortcomings yes, but I like my Eos r a lot. really.
But not really, really?
what lenses do you use? what do you think of the rf 35mm 1.8?
rf35 is a great performing tiny lens. I love it!
Did you try the z6? Cause it have all the things that's you want...
Canon will not give you every feature in one camera. Please consider the 90d with 4k no crop. Again with limited video codec!
Glad I found your Channel, not fake like Peter McKinnon
Sorry to sound SUPER dumb but can someone explain what attachment the camera has on the strap hole with the red circle?
You didn't say anything about why you didn't choose Sony a7 III ?
So you dealt with the crop and one card slot?,yeah,i meant the 4k..There's no point in getting the EOS R if you're just going to use 1080P,because you can use another Canon..
@@damiencooper ..
Actually,i would just get a Panasonic S1 or SH1..Then i would have all sorts of video options, some of the best IBIS,2 card slots, and actual 4 k without a crop...THat makes sense, and it's called real innovation...Sorry that does make sense...
What doesnt make sense is to make a nEW camera and REMOVE stuff that's already available. In FACT,Canon IS 200,made in like 2009,had IBIS.,in a camera less than half the price of the EOS R body alone...Now what???
Go ahead and use your EOS R,that you paid for and be happy.I would never defend a camera i buy,to anyone, yet then again,i havent bought any crippled cameras either.Mine has 2 card slots.IBIS,super lowlight, full frame and crop mode, and a great battery.I'm in the market for a ff mirrorless NOW,and I had already checked out the EOS R,Sony A7iii,and the Nikon Z6.Sony didnt move me because of that little baby hands, matchbox body.Nikon messed up because of their recalls and one card slot, and The EOS R was the closest to being bought.I didnt choose that because it makes no logical sense to me,to remove features and easy redundancy of 2 card slots.
Now if this was 1999 or back when i had an Olympus E501,i knew the standard was one card slot and 3-500 shots per charge, but it's not,and for that money,i want IBIS,2 card slots,no crop, and at least 600 shots per charge,or at least 2 out of the 3.
@@damiencooper ..I'm a slow shooter anyway,so i am fine with even a medium format type 3FPS.I'm just not spending my money for less..period..Canon will ROCK when they merge the ideas of the SDmk4 and the EOS R.Panasonic will kil it when they get the AF up to Sony/Canon Levels.Nikon ,I love our D850,because it's a beast, yet when you went ff mirrorless, you lost your damn minds...
Canon wishlist..IBIS,800-1500 shots per charge and USB charging,IBIS,no crop u p to 4k @60,2 CF Express/SD card slots,,just to start..
Awesome Video! one question though: In terms of Price and video quality the EOS R is so similar to the BMPCC4K...only without the 4K crop. So (on Paper) the BMPCC4K seems like the better choice for your use-cases... Is there a reason why you decided to go for the EOS instead (other than the preference for 1080p Video)?
Oh my gosh I never heard so many “really really” and “really” in my life
Monkeypixels 😆😆😆
He's really really happy with the EOS R
Are you fluent in multiple languages? Probobly not. Even if you do know more then one, I bet it wasent learned as an adult
not much. thanks for asking. whats going on with you?
Starving Artist 101 I’m good, thanks 😂
Itu warnanya enak bener ya, boleh tau actionnya ga ?
Good video thank you!
Canon is paying $5OO every time he says, "really"
This is a really really good review. Really. :-)
was going to end this video early as the "really really" got really annoying...but good information and a model muse that is too stunning to look away from. she is REALLY REALLY lovely!
This camera is now $1499 with the EF adapter and SD card at BH in the US. Yikes!
No it’s 1799
Ryan B you missed the sale bro
Back then you said the Canon a7iii😭
Hehe. Yea really really often. 🤓💡👍🏻
Try atmos ninja v
A really appealing part of the Sony is the small lightweight lenses imo. If Canon's RF mount gets some lenses like that soon I think it'll be a huge selling point for their new mirrorless cameras.
@@damiencooper Those 2 Tamron zooms for Sony, the 28-75 and 17-28, if Canon gets something like those for their mirrorless mount without needing an adapter that'd be great. Small, light, and much cheaper while still producing decent results for most people. (and great for traveling)
really, really, really, really, where are they? The really really fiesta starts at 4:31
Who cares? This channel puts out great content imho and I love it!
CANON is KING! 💪
The really guy hahahaa. Really great work!
You should really really get at least 5-6 lenses.
After 1 year with me EOS R i can totaly share the same Experience like you. I love it. But additional to you negative points i will add that. Why go´s the dam histogram away in Video mode when you press record.........That is the only thing i hate on this R. You have to double check you exposure in your shop before you record.
