    Thanks Rachel. Brilliant, triumphant video. Huge congratulations.
    Breaking 90 minute half is the holy grail for many runners. 🙌🏼
    I hate pre-race. Even after completing 210 full marathons, I still get very nervous but as you say, those nerves soon disappear once race starts.
    Annoying when bottle tops won't come off - it can waste vital energy and spoilt momentum for sure. It's about working out pros & cons of water consumption, depending how you feel. I often miss water stations, especially if a PB is on.
    Pacers do an incredible job but they just don't work for me. I prefer to run my own race, be in charge of my own destiny and push or ease when I think is right. Think when you run with a pacer, you're running THEIR race. I also like to see the road ahead and hate congestion. Going alone late was a good move in my opinion and your expertly pace race proved it.
    That bridge in final mile is a bit naughty. It's not really bad but is just not what you need. Think when it gets to that point you have to give everything and then live like a queen for the rest of your days, knowing you did it. 🎉🎉
    The hat trick is complete but there’s always new goals to aim for. Most important thing is to keep enjoying it.
    Completely agree with everything you say about running. Running proves we're all stronger than we realise. It's brought so much joy and personal achievement into my life and is fantastic from a social point of view. Can’t imagine life without it.
    Finally can I say massive congratulations on 1000 subscribers. Absolutely brilliant.
    (Apologies for the long reply.😆)

      Thanks so much for all your comments Colin 🙂 The biggest thing that stood out was about the pacers. A perfect race is a big juggling act from start to finish. Every little thing you do and don’t do will alter the outcome of that race. Pacers are one of those decisions. Variables on pace include what the watch says, the mile markers on route, the personal effort you feel and of course the race day pacers. It can be a minefield of toing and froing of one factor or another. I enjoyed the novelty of catching them up (I had started back from them on the start line). So if I was with them I knew my chip time would be ahead. The long stretch from the top of the bridge in the final mile, they were no where to be seen so they must have either crossed the line early or really held back on the approach to the finish. I guess I could say I turned off auto pilot when they pulled away at about 7 miles and switched over to manual 😂
      Well done on your total marathons Collin. Are you a member of the 100 marathon club?

    • @MrCol104
      @MrCol104 Рік тому +1

      @@racheld1844 Agreed. You do need a bit of luck, to go with your obvious outstanding ability.
      The danger is holding back to stay with a pacer on a section that favours your personal running. (e.g some excel on hills whilst others favour flat/down.) You then getting left behind on a section that isn't to your liking. Use them as a guide but be flexible. It's best to run your own race, and make your own mistakes.
      The London marathon was strange for pacers because there were far too many due to 4 start lines.
      At one stage I saw 3hr, 3:05 & 3:10 all more or less next to each other. I overtook the 3 hour pacer and then saw another, and another.
      Yeah, I am in 100 marathon club. Always so proud to wear the vest but there's no snobbery at all. I respect and support ALL runners - unconditionally.

    • @racheld1844
      @racheld1844  Рік тому +2

      @@MrCol104 - I think this is only the 2nd time I’ve really used pacers. I did run with them in 2019 but lost them just after half way. For me to have been bang on 1:30 on both chip and gun time (give or take a couple of seconds), the pacers were no where to be seen after about 10 miles. The long section on top of the bridge where there must have been a good 300/400m view ahead, again, I couldn’t see them. It’s good to hear about your experiences and thoughts though. I was pleased for that small section I was with them that it stopped me from going any faster because at that time it was the exact correct pace.

      Well done on getting your 5k and 10k pb’s. I’m sure you can make it a hat trick too! November gives you plenty of time to train so I hope it all goes to plan. The thought of running Sunday’s pace for the same amount again seems crazy. Saying that, last weekend I ran parkrun at a pace of 6:54 and that felt like a harder effort than 13.1 at a faster pace. Some runs are just meant to be 😁

      Well done on your string of pbs Martin. I’ve not got a 10km one (yet) but it’s not a race distance I do often. I’ll be back on the same course where I ran my 10km pb in October, but it’s definitely not a flat route. All but your marathon times are considerably quicker than mine so there’s no doubt you can get that marathon time, if not a lot quicker than you predict. Like you say it’s all down to pacing. I cracked my first marathon at a sub 4 first time, the next 2 were 4:15 and 4:27 because I got too big for my boots. It’s a long way to stay in control but it’s the bad races that remind us we have to play but the rules 😁

    Brilliant Rachel. I am so happy for you. You have trained so hard this year and it is great to see you complete the hatrick of PBs. True that it is easier to run in a pack as you get some benefit from shielding, but always riskier as just a slight tap on a heel can bring you down.

      Thanks Peter. I’ve never really run in a tight pack of runners before. The only time I’ve had that same sensation is in the first 100 metres or so at the start of the race. After that there is always space as every run I enter is relatively small. The pack I was in at Derby wasn’t big at all but even just having them as a wind break, I could feel the difference. I’m not sure what time they crossed the line in or how many people hung on to the end but from 8 miles I know a large amount of us dropped off. @@tworunningbrooms Hi John, yes, there was about 3 or 4 miles on compact trail but with it being dry it was quite dusty and loose in places. It reminded me of the greenway in Stratford-upon-Avon which is part of the Shakespeare marathon route. I chose Derby because it’s the flattest one I know but ideally if it was all road it would probably have knocked a fraction more off. I had wanted Leamington half that I’m doing a week on Sunday to be my pb attempt but the more I asked people, the more I realised it was too hilly.

      @racheld1844  Рік тому +1

      Hi Ian. Great to hear you’re on a Ben Parkes plan too. I used the 3:15 marathon plan over winter and although I added extra sessions and lots of cross training it was a really good plan to follow. This half marathon block was meant to be longer but the half I had booked (Leamington) turns out to be too hilly. Tbh I’ve never really trained for a half, I’ve either ran them in marathon training or just after a marathon when I’m still feeling pretty fit. Also, it’s never helped that the ones I do run tend not to be flat anyway. That’s why I was happy to travel to Derby to have the best chance with a flatter course. I’ve always sat around the 1:32/1:34 mark for years but this was a huge chunk off. I’m extremely pleased I was able to not only pb but knock almost 2 minutes off.
      Which half are you running?

      @racheld1844  Рік тому +2

      Hi Conrad, sorry to hear you’re injured, hope it’s something that won’t stop you running for too long? I think as runners we naturally lean towards either speed or endurance. I’m strong at endurance but have poor, relative speed. Take me just off that 5k/10k pace and I can hold it for ages which is why I’m suited to mainly marathons and partly half’s. I think the biggest tip for improving endurance is as simple as getting plenty of training miles under your belt. Also, my first marathon training plans used to only have long slow runs but over the last 5 or so years I’ve added speed sets to these sessions and I think this has made a huge difference too. Oh, and follow a specific plan for your goal and stick to it like glue! (as life allows) 😁
