Hey Rachel..... firstly that's was an amazing effort of 2 marathons in 2 days ! Secondly, thanks for encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone and enter the "mini" canter . I thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend the event to anyone watching this video. The LDWA events are brilliant and the hot food afterwards as well as the cakes just made the day even more enjoyable. It was great to meet you before the run and you even included me on your video before the route split - an absolute honour to be on camera 😂 Good luck for your next event 🙂
Hi Claire. As much as you said how nice it was to meet me at the Canal Canter, it was so lovely that you came up and said I’d been a part of why you’d entered. I’ve been making videos for a few years and I’ve never made a single penny from any of them. I never started the channel for that reason. It was just a way for me to share my running journey with anyone who found it interesting or wanted to follow along. The biggest reward I ever get it is when people see me out and come and say hello. It’s all the reward I need. Brilliant to hear you enjoyed it so much and I hope anyone who reads these comments and is sat on the fence as to whether or not to enter….then they do get the confidence to give it a shot. I really need to try out some more of their events. I’ve said it for years 🤦🏻♀️, but only ran the Malvern Marathon and this one (plus the Forest Marathon, but that’s not running anymore). Hopefully see you again Claire…. Maybe the full canter next year?? 😁
Thank you 🙏 We hadn’t planned to make this weekend the b2b weekend but as the race was on Sunday it made good sense to run our own on Saturday and then having the organised event on day 2. It gave us the motivation to get up and do it again. We were booked in so there was less chance of us backing out. Luckily the plan paid off 😊
Awesome running Rach! What a super way to do a back to back 👌 You were really lucky to get that shot of the heron. I have tried many times to get them on film but they always fly away when they are too far and you can make them out on the camera 🤣 Training seems to be going amazingly. Look forward to the next race 😎🤘
Thanks Ben. I’d seen 2 herons already but they were both on the other side of the canal and didn’t bat an eye lid when I ran past. They just looked like ornaments standing perfectly still. Then one was on my side so I knew it would take off as I approached, then it did the same again. Pretty cool to see. Just hit my 2nd 80 mile week of the block, was hoping to get 1 100 week in but time is running out and don’t want to push beyond the recovery I know I need. I’d rather not blow up by doing 1 too many runs. Think I’ve got the balance right… we’ll see 😊
Thanks Chris. It was good fun to film this one as it was a lovely event. Always seems to be sunny ☀️ Bonus it was just a 20 minute drive from home too 😁
There's nothing better than the sight of a finish line, never tired of seeing them. Great video, Rachel, nice to see a part of Birmingham that outsiders like me haven't seen before. Best of luck in the Malborough 50 mile ultra!🤞👊
Thanks Neil. I think every runner would agree, finish lines are the best. Most of the time we want them to arrive earlier than the actually do 😅 Less than 2 weeks to go now till the 50. That couldn’t come sooner either …. It means I get some rest in the lead up. 50k on Sunday done and dusted and now I can ease off a bit as I let that mileage sink in.
What a great video. Really enjoyed that. Your running was incredible, but I'm no longer surprised by that 😊 The little bits of info about the red fireman's gates and locks was really good. That guy who said We've eaten all the food 😂 Very funny!
Thanks Mark. I used to cross that road bridge with the red gate every Saturday morning when I took my son swimming in Birmingham. I kept wondering why it was there and eventually googled it and found out. Tbh though, why they couldn’t just throw the hose over the top I’ll never know 😂 Heard your mention on the Brett and Andy podcast this morning while out on my run… lovely that your daughter thinks her dad is famous 😊…. It’s a good listen 🎧
LOVE THIS!!! So good to see the hard work paying off. This must be a massive confidence booster for you :) . Also, when people ask me if I am filming for UA-cam I always get really embarrassed for some reason, always feels strange recording things with people watching.
I said to myself when I started making videos that I wanted to get confident in filming in public but however many years later, it’s still really awkward 😬 I guess I was never meant to crack that code. Luckily, I can edit anything out that looks a bit rubbish and just keep in the bits that look relatively normal 🤣 Yeah, really pleased with the training progress. Even so, there’s still in the back of my mind ‘have I done enough’ 5 weeks I find out 🤞
Well done both. I really enjoyed following along watching the video. The way I used to feel after finishing a marathon, I can't believe anyone would want to run another the next day. Looks like a sensible way to train for your ulta though. Hope your training continues to go well.
Thanks Peter. I’ve only ever done this once before, which was in 2020 in the build up to my first 100. Running very easy was definitely the key to being able to get up and run on day 2. I watch a lot of multi day ultras and I wonder about the ability to go so much further than just the 2 days. Some of them are just continuous, without even any lengthy stops or sleep breaks. There’s always that next level. I do wonder if I’d enter a multi day in the future but my eyes are very much focused on holding that buckle in October 🤞
Pretty incredible! I don't know how people do the two marathons (or more) in back to back days like that. In the past, it was a battle to walk down a flight of stairs. Pretty cool course and looks like your training is going well!
I think the only way I get/got away with it was that it was just about keeping everything really easy paced. If you asked me to run another the day after Newport Marathon, I’d have been in the same boat as you. Even a 2 mile run would have been awful. Best advantage also, was that I totalled 11 hours of moving time in 2 days. I think that gives me a better endurance gain than trying to rush through the distance 😀 Just 6.5 weeks to go now 😱
Wow and I'm panicking about not being ready for my 2nd marathon ever in October. You made this look so easy!!!! I would be curious to know how you manage to stay injury free Rachael.
I’ve been quite lucky recently (and in general) but have had quite a few problems with my calf muscles over the years. I’ve also had achilles, knee and hip issues but nothing too major. With regard to not wanting the big miles to aggravate my calfs, I’ve started skipping every day. In June I did 500 every day and since July I’m doing 1000 skips every day. I can feel it really targets the weaknesses I may have had and so far, I’ve been able to keep injury free. Good luck for your October marathon. Which one are you running?

There's something magical about running along a canal. You make running back to back marathons look so smooth.
Looking strong for the 100 miler.

Well done Rachel , today I run round the perimeter of Hyde park, hardly the length that you do.
Sounds like the perfect run. My legs would love nothing more than a shorter run around a park 🤣 but I have to tell them just not today.
B2B marathons! Amazing!
Thank you 😊 Took a couple of days to get going again but all good now.

An awesome achievement! Double Marathon weekend 🎉 a fantastic vlog too, really enjoyed watching that one, thank you
Thanks Chris. It was good fun to film this one as it was a lovely event. Always seems to be sunny ☀️ Bonus it was just a 20 minute drive from home too 😁
WOW!, Your videos are always so inspiring!
Thanks Eric, nice to hear you enjoyed the video 😊
Can’t imagine waking up the day after a marathon ready to run another… Inspirational, as always!
It wasn’t so bad. It was only b2b marathons…. not like doing a double W&B in one day 😱😱 Well done Mack 🎉…hope you made a video 😅
@@racheld1844 You are built different.
And thank you! Yeah, I shot some clips, haha...
@@Mack.Tracks- I got a message first thing this morning to say what you’d done. Both very impressed 💪
@@racheld1844 💚

Well done both of you, looks fun.
Thanks Ben. Yeah, we had a great weekend. Best bit was the McDonald’s on the way home 😋

I don't know how you do it. Well done 👍 ✅
Thanks Shara. Plenty of walk breaks on day one was key I think. A big lesson on making sure I start off slow 🙂
