this is the only ROTC video that's been helpful thank you so much I start college in August & I wanted to join the program then my sophomore year get the scholarship so thank you
I'm considering joining a Air Force ROTC program so it was cool to come across ur video . I don't know anyone in the program so ur video helped me because I was concerned about if I would still get a "college experience".
Ahh yes the college experience, well let me tell you. You don't miss out on anything in college because of ROTC. You have plenty of free time and a social life. You can go out and party and all that stuff. You just gotta be smart about it and not post it all over your social media Cus your commander WILL look on there to see if there's anything that shouldn't be. But I'm glad I could help!
+Riley E it's not hard in the least bit. It's just a very specific career degree like you can pretty much only do some type of law or legal job with a CJ degree. So I want something more broader so I can have more options.
A1C Young hi am going to do a community college cause am trying to save money however will be doing the afrotc at sdsu cause they offer it I am going to be majoring in premed and am not a citizen yet how would this work for me plz
John Okoh I'm sure you can ask the memebers of rotc and they will give you a solid answer. But I know people in the military who joined TO GET their citizenship. So I don't know. Just ask around. Hope everything works out for you!
Hey man, I just saw you vid. I'm a ROTC cadet at SJSU too, and I agree with everything you say. I'm a nursing major and this is my first semester of the program, and it's really tough. My class are quite difficult, and on top of that I have to balance my PT sessions and the LLAB. How are you doing in the program right now?
What's up Brian, sorry for such a late response. I just graduated basic training for the Air Force so I can only speak for the one semester I did before leaving for basic. All in all I did alright, I was noticed a lot and got all my stuff done. I knew a few people who were nursing majors and I understand your pain. It's tough to balance it all but in the end it's all worth it to get that commission. You just gotta keep your priorities straight and remember why you doing this. Best of luck to you!!
I realize this comment is 4 years old and you probably have already found out, but I’m just going to respond for those curious, because at one point I had the same question. From my research (keep in mind this is subject to change and I’m not ROTC so I could be wrong), but if you get a scholarship, and the scholarship is worth more than $2,000/year (I’m pretty sure it’s somewhere around that amount, I forgot the exact amount), the Air Force will pay for your college as long as you are in ROTC and serve your time after. Going this route will disqualify you from getting the benefits of the post 9/11 bill. If you join the ROTC without a scholarship, or the scholarship is worth less than $2,000/year, after your service you are eligible for the post 9/11 bill. The 9/11 bill can not be used to pay off previous school debts, but can help you pay for a masters degree or you can use it for your children for a certain amount of time past your military service.
@@truffer1145 there’s 3 different scholarships tho. One covers 100% for any college of your choice, another just pays 18,000 of your tuition straight up, and the other is part of your tuition for a public school
I am entering the program as a Junior and am doing the 3 year program, my last year being my masters. Can you give any information on the 3 year program vs 4? Or any advice on it?
Great video, I am currently a freshman at Sacramento State in my first semester and I've recently expressed interest in Air Force ROTC. How many units are you taking? Because you said you only have class 3 days out of the week; what major are you as well?
+Afif Achmad I am a Freshman at Sac State as well and am planning on doing ROTC in the Fall of 2016. The program sounds great from the information I have gotten from meetings with the detachment as well as friends in the program.
+Cody Young So I'm currently a high school senior and will graduate next year, what kind of tips would you give someone like me before going to ROTC. Also, can you give me some insight to what the academic requirements to ROTC are (I'm an A and B student)? Any college recommendations or tips you can give? Thanks.
Maria Castillo Before rigorous exercise you want to eat bread foods. I find that bananas usually don't make people sick. You definitely want to avoid dairy products.
how did you get 4 days off? I want to take AFROTC since I want to go to ECU as my second main college choice, but I don't want to be bombarded with classes. Would You say that since being in rotc, your college experience is easier or harder than just taking basic classes? And If you know, Do you know if there are any cycling teams in ECU. Not a club but a competitive team
Yes ! 4 days it was sweeeeeet honestly it's just the luck of the draw, I made my class schedule early so I could sit there and plan out which classes would give me a 4 day weekend. And ROTC in the first two years is just basic classes. It did take up a little bit of time on the weekends sometimes because you have to do some volunteer stuff but it really isn't that bad. You're with you friends/cadets !
I currently have the chance of either doing AFROTC (one year graduate program) or go to OTS since I already have a Bachelors...I am torn between both and will start the process on both to see. Can you give me your opinion on this?
A1C Young Ok I will try that too, the Captain in the Detachment told me I have a great chance of entering to both programs since the AF is in dire need of highly qualified Officers. That's why they just re-opened the one year graduate (and undergraduate) program. I am thinking about the whole OTS 8 weeks vs AFROTC's Field Training (almost 4 weeks). I know field training is shorter because AFROTC is more gradual and divided (PT 3 times a week, LLAbs, classes all that) and OTS is more condensed... I think the whole year would be nice to get in shape by myself and by the PT I would do on the Detachment. Do you think I would be missing something in terms of (leadership experiences, camaraderie) if I go to one vs the other? Which one do you think would be the best more richer experience.
Thanks for the informative video bro. I just have a question through. I'm currently a freshman in my university and thinking about joining AFROTC my sophomore year. How far will I be behind if I join up my sophomore year? Will I need to take extra classes and labs?
well you'd be crunched for time because selection for field training happens your sophomore year and the summer between your sophomore and junior year is when you go if you are selected. And since you're coming in your sophomore year. You are going to need to stand out a lot more in order to get that slot but it's done all the time so I wouldn't worry to much about it! Good luck!
I want to join this AFROTC program! I've always dreamed of joining the Air Force as well.. I have many of family members that were in the Army and Air Force. I plan on attending ECU in the fall of 2017.. I'm in the early college program and I graduate in the year of 2017 in May. I will be a uprising Super-Senior as well.. Can I do this program and major in dentistry?
Will you always get an Active Duty position after completing AFROTC? My detachment Recruiter told me yes but I have read that sometimes you could be given a Reserve spot.
Idali Beltre Acevedo that's way wrong. No you're always given an active duty spot. You sign an active duty contract so there's no way they can put you in the reserves
I have not officially decided to sign up for AF ROTC and I will be a freshman in August. If I do not sign up the first semester will I still be able to for the 2nd semester and finish the same?
I'm not sure if you mentioned it in the video, but how old do you have to be in order to be eligible for AFROTC? I am 24 and I was told I am too old? is this true. Thanks.
I've decided to join the Air Force. I'm going to be applying to the Air Force Academy and if I don't get accepted there, I was going to join AFROTC. Would you ever recommend someone joining or does it just depend on the person?
Depends on the person, Air Force ROTC cadets like to pretend they are in the Air Force and act all big and tough cus they have a "uniform" that they didn't even earn. But if you have your head on straight and know what it really means to become and airman then it'd recommend it to everyone! :) good luck with the AF academy!
@@A1CYoung This is a pretty late response but in Army ROTC, once you reach your third year you MUST contract and agree to commission. If you dont agree, they drop you.
Cody, do you know anyone that was in the ROTC while studying a science major while working a part time job? That will be my situation this August. I might not have a social life for the next 4 years during semesters, however, I'm hoping you know people who not only had difficult classes, but also had a job. Did they quit? Did they succeed? I'll appreciate any feedback.
What's up dude, yes there was and is a lot of cadets that had very challenging courses such as nursing and computer science and engineering and worked a part time job. The advice they gave to me was just simply time management and balancing a healthy amount of work, school and social life. They are doing very well in problem but they also really want this so they are willing to put the work into it and maybe sacrifice going out with friends in order to study for a big test coming up. Wish you the best of luck !
Spot on man, I just finished my FTP year and I will be going to Field Training this summer. Keep going bro.

As a cadet at USAFA, it was humorous listening to you complain about ROTC.
Hahaha I bet 😂😂
How was USAFA?
Needed this, thank you! ❤️ I’m very excited to join the Air Force ROTC 💯
I'm in Air Force ROTC too ! (:
thank you soooo much for making this video
I’m about to start! I didn’t join until my sophomore year though.
Thank you so much! This helps me so much

I'm going to ECU and I'll be doing AFROTC 😩😩 and I'm an intended nursing major .

What time is your aerospace class on Wednesday’s ? How long is the class?
I was wondering what would be a good meal to eat so it doesn't make me feel queasy/sick before PT
Maria Castillo Before rigorous exercise you want to eat bread foods. I find that bananas usually don't make people sick. You definitely want to avoid dairy products.
My goto before PT is applesauce. One cup takes 30 seconds to eat and keeps me from feeling sick during workouts

I have a friend that's 15 and in 7th grade will he make it if he doesn't fail anymore?
Nate Moreno Yes, they are mainly concerned about what you do in your college career. You have to get into college for that to happen though.

Does the Airforce Scholarship cover room & board at the University you chose to attend?

What happens to the people that don't get commissioned?

How is the AFROTC at state? I planned on going to their rotc whenever I graduated from high school and was curious
If you finish the ROTC program get your degree and get a decent score on the AFOQT is it a guarantee that you will be come a officer?
Brenden Baker yes if you're in rotc you will be commissioned as on O-1 that's a 2nd LT in the airforce and army and I believe an ensign in the navy
Cool thanks for the help!

How much running do you guys do on a regular PT day?
Depends on the day. Sometimes we'll do over 2 - 3 miles, sometimes we wont run at all, other times will be a mile and a half to prep for the PFA.
If I'm planning on doing Air Force ROTC after high school, what happens if I complete 4 years and you don't receive a commission?
You're guaranteed a commission if you complete the Air Force ROTC program. Army ROTC you are not
