Hey man, your story is a huge inspiration for me. It sounds A LOT like my life right now.... 5 years ago I went into college and the AFROTC, and due to life and financial issues I had to drop out after just one quarter. I explored life a little bit and got essentially "grew up". Well through those 5 years I KNEW I wanted to go into the Air Force, it was my light at the end of the tunnel so to speak for all those years. I knew my purpose in life involved that route. So in the last 2 years I lost 70lbs and I am now half way through the recruiting process and just 7 days away from going to MEPS to join the Washington Air National Guard. After I'm done with basic and tech school I plan on using the benefits provided to go BACK to the college and ROTC detachment that I had to leave so many years ago.... There's so many emotions going through me during this time of my life and it's so intense. I can't wait to get back into the fight. Airpower!
@@reestillbloom lol the journey has only begun. I've been sworn into the Air Guard, and I have first drill with a student flight tomorrow. I still need to go through BMT. It's probably gonna be another year before I enroll in school and the ROTC again.
@@reestillbloom I still don't have my orders for basic, I'm just standing-by, waiting, and waiting.... and waiting lol. I should be shipping out easily this year though. I'm contracted to be a 2A5X4, (KC-135 crew chief)
Holy shit you responded. That's awesome thank you so much. I just gotta say you been a HUGE help to me by making these videos. I've been contemplating for a couple years of how I should go about to become an Air Force officer and you being straight up and saying how you feel about things is very much appreciated.
So I’m going into AFROTC… but in a way I won’t REALLY be considered being “in” until I graduate and get my Airman Coin? Also big thanks to you man… I’m still in high school and I’m trying to go to college and become a pilot and honestly I’ve been watching your videos and you’ve helped to educate me on so much… so really thank you so much.
We're, in the same position wow its crazy I was wondering of this was possible to do both the reserves and AFROTC now i see it is. Thank You Cody Young
I love watching your videos!! I'm starting my ROTC classes this fall, and your videos are really informational, and help. You've gained a subscriber, thank you so much!
My dream is to become a pilot in the Air Force. I currently cannot afford college, and neither can my parents. I'm trying to find the best option/route to take, and I really need some advice. I've heard that enlisting in the reserves, taking AFROTC, while earning my Bachelor's is a good option for someone who cannot afford to pay for college tuition at a school that offers AFROTC. Any thoughts?
john goodyear I would definitely go into the reserves. It can’t hurt anything, if anything it’ll help you because you’ll have more knowledge. Plus it might help to get more scholarships. 😊
Depends on how you prioritize things. If you go out and party all the time. Yes but if you're smart about it and now when to study and when to have fun. Shouldn't have any problem
So is it best to just enlist in the military then go for being an officer after college? Or be enlisted and ROTC? My plan was to do ROTC in college, but figured if I get enlisted first might learn more.
Enlisting is a great experience and it gives you better understanding of how enlisted life is and when you become an officer, Your airmen will respect you more because you went through the same training they did and don't just demand respect because you have a college degree you've earned your rank and respect. I would advise doing what is best for YOU. Look at the best outcome and look at the worst outcome of you enlisting first. If you're okay with both of those outcomes. Then I'd say go for it! Highly recommend enlisting first to anyone who wants to become an officer later down the road. Depending on their reasons. Good luck to you. If I can be of any more help just let me know!!
+Cody Young Okay, sweet! Forgot to mention that I'm looking into the army. lol I've mentioned it before but have been back and forth between army and the air force. But you really helped out a lot and appreciate the videos. Congratulations to you for making it this far in your military career. :)
Mikayla Carmichael Go Air Force, they treat their people better from what I have heard and shorter deployments if that is something you worry about. I know I do because I want to have a family in the not so distant future.
So I am beyond a shadow of a doubt going into the Airforce once I am of correct age and college is completed. I was originally planning on going to OTS but I want a good chance of getting a pilot slot. From what I see ROTC has the best chance of getting you one, but I need a secondary opinion. Academy is out the window as I am struggling in some math areas. I have always wanted to be a pilot since I was 5 and had my first flight. Working on a pilots license now and will be completed etc by next year. It takes a lot to get where I wanna go. I am willing to make the commitment to follow my dreams. Btw I just found your channel and I am already finding information useful.
What college did you do ROTC in and what year are you in or were when you did ROTC? How did the reserves interfere with ROTC, did you have to drop the program or once you decided you would go enlisted were you dropped by ROTC? Also what does the black cords mean.
I went to East Carolina University I was a freshman in the ROTC program, I have to take almost a year off of school to do my basic training and tech school for the reserves, and no i can do ROTC and reserves at the same time when I go back to ROTC. I'll just pick up where I left off in the program, the black rope means I'm apart of the drill and ceremonies team for my squadron here in tech school. BAM questions answered
Dude I’m training for my AF DODMERB and studying for (hopefully) a type one scholarship. Any tips on that? I’m a junior in high school and I leave in a little over a year and I’m so exited. As a female who is currently unhealthy I get a lot of flack about wanting to join and I wanna prove them wrong.
Hey Cody, awesome video! I was wondering if you could do a video on your ROTC application process, do you have to meet the fitness standards, any dos & donts? Thank you so much!
Hi! Thanks for the video. I'm thinking about joining the AF or Army but I didn't know you could join ROTC and Reserves at the same time, In AF website I didn't find any info on it. I have a question. Is the AFROTC and Reserves at the same time the same or like the Army SMP Simultaneous Membership Program where you also do both at the same time plus full time student??? What's the difference if any?
what is the whole process of joining the air force reserves and ROTC at the same time? Like how do you make sure that you can continue with the ROTC program and commission afterwards.
Aloha Adam you have to go to basic training and tech school before you go to college. Then once you graduate and come back home you can enroll In college as well as ROTC.
I am a Junior in high school and I am in army JROTC, where my dad is one of our non-commisioned officer instructors at the school. I am doing the running start program though, so when I met at the PMS at a college i visited, he said that would be difficult for me to achieve a full 4 year scholarship. Also, how many cadets at your college's ROTC program have scholarships?
Hi, i just came out of tech school,, and i need assistance on how to get a conditional release form to join ROTC and how to properly fill it out.. thanks
Sunkanmi Adesemoye you don't need a conditional release form to join rotc. You only need one when you're about to commission. After you've completed the rotc program
I am planning on doing pretty much the same route that you took, but I will be joining the reserves before starting in ROTC. Do you know if you join the Reserves and go through basic, are you still required to do field training?
So you basically had started ROTC then decided to stop and go reserves and went to BMT and Tech school and you are planning to go back into ROTC when you return and you will be able to use a bill or whatever financial aid you were talking about?
I need some advice I'm deciding to go army active but I recently found out about rotc I go to college in thinking of doing it but I work full time is it possible to work go to school and join reserve. Should I go for active does rotc help me with funding house allowance how do they help with struggles. Any advice will help buddy thank u I have a month before I can make this decision
Well you wouldn't be able to work full time but with the money you would get from the reserves to go to college it would compensate for that. But it's def possible! Best of luck to you!
Brandon Sparks it all depends on your preference, you very well could go active and then get your degree online. I know plenty of people that do that and works out great. And since you're active you wouldn't have to pay a cent for it. Then once you get your degree online. Put a package together and apply for OTS!
Hey man how's it going, not sure of your status now but I'm C/4C Bowers, Det. 475. Let me tell you after just one semester of ROTC, prior service people are either hit or miss as far as outside perspective goes. We respect you, and understand that you guys know what's up, but it drives me INSANE when some ANG person or whoever pipes up and starts saying "that's not how we did it at BMT!" Or whatever when POC or cadre are trying to explain something and how it's done in AFROTC. On the flip side one of our POC was prior enlisted in the Marines and he takes things for what they are. Unless he is specifically asked, he doesn't talk about his experience in the marines, he's squared away and he doesn't shove it in your face, where as some ANG or whoever do. I guess all I'm trying to say is don't go in with an "eye roll" mentality, be prepared to learn and if something sounds stupid to you advice is ALWAYS valued but to an extent. Thank you for your service, and good luck on your ROTC journey
Sean Bowers well it's about how it actually works in the operational Air Force. Because with all do respect a lot of the stuff in ROTC just like in basic training, you never use again nor is it relevant to your military career. That's all I really am trying to say.
Danellis Sandoval depending on your job, you would need to serve a few years as an active duty member as an obligation. Officers with Rated jobs such as pilots need to serve more active duty time than non rated jobs such as logistics or force support.
I did not. It's very very selective. There's different phases and you need congressional recommendations and outrageous gpa and test scores just to be considered. Wasn't really what I wanted to do. Plus I wanted to enjoy the college life haha
bmt is only 3 months and they get their uniforms right away. you have to be in rotc for 2 years before you can even go to field training, even then not every cadet gets to go to field training. so to make it through 2 years of rotc, get chosen to go to field training, and then make it back with ABU's, yeah I'd say was earned.
I am going to be a junior this fall. If I enlisted in the reserve before then, could I still join AFROTC? Reason I need to enlist is becuase I am not a citizen at the moment.

Really your only option would be OTS if you wait until after you have your college degree. You can't go through ROTC after you've completed college.
Matthew DiGiacomo Oh I know...I just cant make up my mind...rotc has better chances but at the same time ots does a lot to build you as an officer.

If you're not applying for a scholarship then gpa doesn't matter if you just want to take the class.
For ROTC like do u have to take the asvab first or can u just sing up for it
You don't take the ASVAB for ROTC that's for enlistment. In ROTC you take the AFOQT and you do sign up for the AFOQT.

kanisha pompy no reverse I did rotc didn't like it so I enlisted in the reserves
Love your videos! They're so helpful
Hello,I hope you are doing okay,so my question is how many years do you need to be in college un order to be an airforce oficial? thanks beforehand
being in the air reserves while a cadet in rotc, does this improve your rankings in rotc? will this put you over your peers?
It absolutely gives you an edge and does look very good on paper that you are already in the AF and understand its structure and how everything works
I am going to be a junior this fall. If I enlisted in the reserve before then, could I still join AFROTC? Reason I need to enlist is becuase I am not a citizen at the moment.
