You should make some minor corrections to your video.
#1) A person with GCS 3 is NOT automatically considered deceased ! at 3 they are totally unresponsive. You do not assess a patient being dead on GCS alone! There are medical cases where patients can come in with a GCS 3 and are not dead or have life threatening injury. Yes GCS 3 is very concerning and GCS going down also needs to be looked into, but not automatically life threatening or a person being dead. Someone can be admitted to the ER with GCS 3 (it happens, yes, and they are not dead) So if there was a test on this and a trick question on this matter, people would fail the question, GCS 3 does NOT mean *DEAD* in the sense, the person is deceased.
#2) GCS 13-15 minor impairment, 9-12 moderate impairment and less than 8 severe impairment.
#3) EYE OPENING, 1 is no response, and 4 is open spontaneously and 2 opens to pain stimuli, you got that part right, except for #3, you wrote "MILD" that is incorrect. ANY type of pain stimuli whether mild or severe falls under 2. 3 would be opening to verbal command.
---------------------------------------also sometimes the GCS scores are not properly assessed.
That said there is another important factor, usually a person in that dire condition would eventually get out of it and improve, though a standing GCS 3 would have a low survival rate I concur, but just for the record, you are not dead until proven dead. GCS 3 does NOT mean automatic death. Even a 20% survival rate is not "DEATH". :)

+bigmoney66b I don't think the point of the video was to show people that GCS3 means being declared legally dead, just that it was the lowest possible score on the GCS. For example, someone with a GCS3 technically has the same score as someone who has been dead for 30 years.
This video is so misleading for people who aren't too familiar with this (i.e. the intended audience). If there's such a huge gap between the "point of the video" and what's being communicated, then there's definitely something wrong on the lecturer's part. Someone with GCS 3 can just be unconscious, not dead. So wouldn't it make sense to not just keep claiming that w/o emphasizing the real definition enough to clear it up?

Thank you, bigmoney66b. I was GCS 3 after my car wreck. I went comatose in the ambulance. I managed to make it, and get hospital rehab and freestanding facility federally recognized rehab. I worked very hard not to die, and I continue to work at improving my deficits!

No, no, he didn’t mean literally dead. He is just comparing what a three would look like, kind of like a dead person, but with a heartbeat. Not dead, just looks & acts dead. No movement, doesn’t speak, doesn’t moan, & no eye movement. Just a misunderstanding.

My son crashed whilst involved motorcycle racing and suffered a severe brain injury has well braking his neck in 2 places and his back in 3 places....he had a pulse but did not breathe for almost 30 minutes....Mark was in a coma for 6 week....he walked out of hospital 4 months later.... returned back to work in July for 2 hrs 1 day per week and eventually 14 months later to a normal working week as a self employed builder in our family business

Easiest way to remember for Motor is to just remember the 4 inbetween 1 and 6. Same for Verbal if its a little confusing.
4-EYES (4 LETTERS)
5-VOICE (INSTEAD OF MOUTH OR VERBAL- HAS 5 LETTERS)
6-MUSCLE (FOR MOTOR 6 LETTERS)

Responses are graded based on spontaneous activity, following commands, pain, absent activity, and for motor includes posturing responses. That is how I would organise the presentation.

Can you explain to me what's the GCS of a normal baby but doesn't know how to speak spontaneously or the words being used are not that comprehensible?
+earlbeau Sure- the vocal portion of GCS for neonates/infants is if they cry/vocalize spontaneously/normally. For example, right after delivery a healthy neonate is typically crying with full-bodied breaths (score of 5). If the baby was absolutely silent, that would be a score of 1. There is a modified or pediatric GCS that is for children or those that cannot otherwise vocalize words:
5 is smiles, interacts, follows objects;
4 is cries but consolable;
3 is moaning or inconsolable;
2 is agitated and inconsolable;
1 is no verbal response or noises made.

Clean up your language. “Dead” is not 3 on the gcs. Speak as if you are describing it to a person who has a loved one with a 3 coma score.
