“You will always be my friend” hits even harder knowing Gyatso was very close with both Roku and Aang. I can only imagine how happy he was to learn Aang was the next Avatar. “Some friendships are so strong they can even transcend lifetimes”
This comment is the best.❤️
Hmmm
That line should have been there to really hit home how special Gyatso was to have been friends with 2 Avatars
You know what got me surprised? They kept the original chant in the end credits!
Chu chaka chaka
Yeah that hyped me up so much Netflix is definitely improving with their live action adaptations cuz they know what the fans want
@@hikennoace343no they don’t in the show he does not go that high up and the only reason he gets out the avatar state is cause katara grabs his hand
@@Lostsin.s you're thinking of when he lost Appa to the sand benders. This time round, yes it was still katara but she helped him by saying her and Sokka were gonna be his family
Oh man… Aang going HAM on the sandbenders is something I hope they keep… that and Sokka drinking the cactus juice. “Who lit Toph on fire?!” 🤣🤣🤣
This scene really breaks my heart.
It shows that Aang, despite being the avatar, is still a child, a child with the whole weight of the world on his shoulders. Aang is 12 years old, and he just saw something that no 12 year old child should ever see, let alone witness: the dead corpse of one of his loved ones seen right in front of him, and the fact that he was taken from this world in a VERY painful way.
I teared up a little bit at this scene. Honestly, I like how the live action version started with Aang’s life at the temple and his friendship with Gyatso. It makes it more impactful and far more tragic especially when we See Gyatso’s death. It carries far more weight than seeing Aang’s life in a flashback.
I just wish they kept the original plot instead of all these changes
Yea , same
@@RealAytanDavidson
Why? It's stupid to copy-paste what we saw years ago.
Go and watch the animated series
@@alexeychayanov6003true, and they did it in a reasonable-enough way. Adding in Azula and seeing her go from a whiny child to literally conquering Omashu was a nice touch, since we only see her downfall and never really see how Omashu was taken. Also, hoping to see her blue make blue fire at some point lol.
i love how much focus they've put on aang and gyatso's bond. the scene they reunite in the spirit realm and he ensured aang to not blame himself for what happened to them was really impactful.
Don't be too sad Aang Gyatso was dropping body's before he died
Lol
That’s just a headcanon people accept as true after repeating it so long
@agent1-085 then why were there dead firebenders around that old Monk
@@agent1-085 Wdym? It was heavily implied that he managed to kill a bunch of buffed firebenders in the cartoon. Also, Gyatso trained Roku and to some extent, Aang, so he should be more skilled than he looks.
In the original show, but in this version he was taken out by one guy and didn't take anyone out. :/
Removing all the fire nation bodies around Gyatso in this version is a tragedy
Based on the story the show is telling, it makes more sense to remove the Fire Nation bodies. Aang's journey is about learning that diplomacy will not always work. If there were dead bodies around Gyatso, it would devalue the lesson he's about to learn. And it might make him believe that fighting back won't work either, as you'd still end up dying anyway. The issue is that you're approaching this from the same perspective you had when you watched the cartoon.
Well it would make sense that the remaining Fire benders would hold funeral pyres for their fallen warriors but leave the corpes of the Air benders to the vultures.
@@wazer85was just thinking that.. in war the oops body is only good for pissing in the persons open skull meanwhile they respect their dead. Makes way more sense this way
Because Gyatso was defeated by Sozin.
@@iamart8751 Or dead bodies might indicate a war/battle was going on. Also that makes no sense since that guy took out so many by himself implying there is use fighting back
I LOVE THAT MEMORY OF GYATSO IS THE REASON AANG CAN STOP THE AVATAR MODE HERE 😭😭😭
its make more sense than katara stop him
😭😭😭😭😭😭
i didn’t even realize that omg
Thank you, finally someone. 😅
No because it means Aang can control the avatar state so the reasoning for not finishing Ozai immediately is gone.
@@malikpierre-louis3343i don’t think that’s what that means. if he could control it he wouldn’t have made so much wind to the point where it almost killed Katara and Sokka
@@daniellemeikle2050 Sure you could argue that, but him pulling himself out shows that he as more control over the avatar state,so it will make other moments (if they are adapted) fall flat for example when he is confronted by the sandbenders there won't be any tension since we know he is gonna calm himself down.
I loved how they changed this scene. Y’all gotta remember that Katara and Sokka just met Aang; Gyatso was his friend throughout 2 lifetimes. It wouldn’t have made sense for Katara to stand there and call out to him in the middle of a tornado
Don’t feel too bad, Aang. Monk Gyatso died a hero trying to save your people. You should feel proud.
I just cried. I just sorry, loss, and pain, but I wasn’t scared
Same
Cringe
tf is bro on about
Gyatso's death was sad, he was good people besides being a monk 😢😢
I really love how much more powerful and emotional they made this scene. They did Gyatso justice
What really made the live action version more impactful was that the show actually started with Aang’s life 100 years ago and giving us a glimpse of his relationship with his teacher and friend making it all the more painful when Aang returns to his home in the present day. We really empathize with his heartbreak more because we have more context on how much he truly lost.
The original did the same thing. I wasnt sure how aang didn't lose his mind when I watched this year's ago. But maybe him being younger helped in a way
In the 2005 Katara was the one who stopped Aang in the Avatar State, in the life action the memories of Gyatso and his words stopped Aang
The live action one makes more sense, it would make me strange to cry for a guy I met yesterday
Gyatso faced a brutal death, but he didn’t go down without a fight.
No lie…..I honestly cry at this scene 1:45
I cried too after seeing that awful uncanny valley CGI closeup of Aang. This is so terrible beyond words.

Genuinely the best scene in the show
Kyoshi's scene is the best in my opinion ! ;)
Aang burying gyatso and him giving himself to zuko to save the village were the only good scenes in the episode imo.
@@teamsigurd1902 kyoshi scenes were trash
I'm a bit weird for the dialog mentioned by Monk Gyatso that "Aang is his friend" for adult to say to a kid. Then I remembered that Avatar Roku was Monk Gyatso childhood friend. Maybe that's why the dialog said that I guess
Old people can have genuine friendships with children. Especially those they help to raise
Airbenders do not have typical families, which might interfere with their connection to the spirit world. That's why they live as nomads as well. Instead they have "friends", which help them through growing up as a mentor, not a parent.
In the og he was his guardian so it made the relationship feel a bit familial
Gyatso was like Aang's father since he took care of him because he knew Aang was the avatar and his parents due to air nomad traditions they wouldn't have attachments since they were moving to temples, and Gyatso taught him everything Aang knew. I don't think Gyatso treated Roku the same way he treated Aang, Roku was his friend, Aang was his student and adopted child.
This version is more emotional 😭
i like that u can hear Aang trying to hold in his cry thinking of Gyatso 😭😭😭😭

Imagine Aang's reaction in season 2 after Appa gets kidnapped?
Tbh I hated that part especially because Appa 🦬 is on of my favorite characters and I also hated the scene where Aang lost it towards Toph after that

Hot take : this moment in live action hit me more then it did in the animated series.
I’m glad they emphasized this moment more! And the actor for Aang killed it. I had a more positive experience with the remake for sure lol
Me too, I cried in this scene.
Meh
No it didn’t
Not to me
This is the scene when it truly hits home for Aang that he really is the last airbender.
What strikes me in both versions is that Aang is a twelve-year-old boy who’s lost almost everything of the world he knew. Even with all the power he has, he’s still a sweet boy whose heart has been terribly broken. And yet, because of the love from two other kids and the memory of one who was practically a father figure, he pulled back from the brink. Aang is strong.
GOOOOOD. Use your aggressive feelings, boy. Let the hate flow through you.

Aang's mentor and best friend, Monk Gyatso, is gone, and it breaks my heart. He truly is the Last airbender. 😢😢😭😭
Animated series: katara is the one to calm down aang and get him out the avatar state
Netflix series: gyatso's words calm down aang
2:01 aang just accepted the fact😭
This actor really embodies Aang
Surprised that after all that wind, stone tumbling and yet gyatso's skeleton remains in the same spot lmao.
Great Fire Sage: Send word to the Fire Lord immediately! The Avatar has returned!
This is one of the few senes they have gotten right and it might almost be better than the original credit to the crew.
Katara: What happened?
Sokka: He found out firebenders killed Gyatso!
Katara: Oh no! It's his Avatar Spirit! He must have triggered it! I'm going to try and calm him down!
Sokka: Well, do it! Before he blows us off the mountain!
Katara: Aang! I know you're upset and I know how hard it is to lose the people you love. I went through the same thing when I lost my mom. Monk Gyatso and the other airbenders may be gone, but you still have a family. Sokka and I! We're your family now!
(Aang snaps out of the Avatar State and descends back down to the ground)
Sokka: Katara and I aren't going to let anything happen to you. Promise.
Aang: (sad and tired) I’m sorry.
Katara: It's okay. It wasn't your fault.
Aang: But you were right. And if the firebenders found this temple, that means they found the other ones, too. I really am the last airbender.
The show is fantastic. If you know the Avatar anime THEY NAILED IT THE CHARACTERS and the fell of the show.
It’s not lmao
Cartoon. It wasn’t made in japan.
@@fatboibari4505 Why not? Clarify?
@sonicgen20 Don't need to be made in Japan. Watch this. What is the difference between Anime and cartoon?
Nah, this is missing many important details. Katara just going "hey aang calm down" is such a bastardized and compacted version of how it actually goes in the animation.
Gyasto went down fighting like a true warrior. This scene still hurts seeing aang losing a good friend.
A true avatar moment!
Knowing this tragic scene was coming, I made sure I was cooking with onions when it showed up on screen.
"Some friendships are so strong they can transcend lifetimes".
i may be the only one,
but i thought this was one of the best scenes 🤷🏽♀️ the only one i cried too
i love that they changed with gyatso, bringing him out and saying you will always be my friend
it made his death so much more impactful.
I think, they should make characters older, becouse it will taken two or three years to film next one, and the actor who place Aang will grow very fast.
It depends. They probably had filmed season 2 and 3 back to back when they made this. It's been since what??? 2019 since they made this series. Never say never
He's really is the Last Airbender
I wish we could see the statues of the previous avatars eyes glow
I hope they can complete this series before any cancellation coz I wanna see the end fight as in Book3
They’ve announced seasons 2 and 3
"Dark Side" of the Avatar? Is there a Dark Side of the Avatar, if so wouldn't that be Vaatu? Aang along w/ all the other past avatars before him was fused with Raava.
We dont speak of Raava and Vaatu
There is no Raava or Vaatu in Ba Sing Se.
@@6-dpegasus425I know the whole 'flying kites' thing bothers people. But it actually was a good concept to have a light and dark side within the Avatar. The Avatar is the bridge between the worlds but he/she is very much still Human. And Humans are prone to committing great atrocities when they allow the dark side to take over. Imagine how often the Avatar would be tempted to completely eviscerate someone for either not cooperating or causing extreme harm like what Sozin did. When a young boy, with the power of God within him, sees his homeland destroyed and his people murdered. Don't you think he would be slightly tempted to get revenge by slaughtering those who did it?
The Avatar must keep balance but they can't if they lose balance within themselves. Stray too much to either side and they fall into chaos; if the Avatar is in chaos then the world is in chaos.
Title is just implying that he lost control
LoK book 2....we all collectively ignore that season. Raava and Vaatu? Don't know them.
I remember this scene in the cartoon when I was 12.
I also remember having had my head shaved, so I drew an arrow on my head with a blue marker to look like Aang.
Also was that 20 years ago? Damn, where did all that time go?
I have never been able to visualize the avatars power in real life in this.... just holy crap man Also he can't turn to the dark side if he's using the spirit of the light to embrace his emotions
Can you guys imagine what it’ll look like when Aang and Ozai face off..
Use your aggressive feeling boy
If it was like this for Monk Gyatso I wonder how the Desert will look like 🤔
0:03 Gyatso's remain... 😢😢😢😢
One of the most heartbreaking moments of the entire original series, Aang seeing the dead remains of his beloved mentor.
His skeleton symbolizes the genocide of the Air Nomads at large too.
I cried 😢😢😢😢😢😢
And There Are Bodies Of At Least 10 Comet enhanced Fire Nation Squad Around Him.....
Speaking of the dark side
STAR WARS is the tale of "What would happen if The Chosen One turns evil"
Still pulls on the heartstrings 💔
damn GYATso really dropped his gyat on us....
Soundtrack???
He went down fighting
my eyes got watery because its soooooo sad 😢
"turn to the dark side" 💀
I hope there is a movie about avatar imiq and lua
Kinda like GOHan when her turn super sayin I’m the CHAMBER 😅
"turns to the darkside ???? no went into the avatar state uncontrolably -_-
Its ok, but the animated scene is way stronger with Katara struggling to reach him proving her compromise with Aang to stick by his side no matter what...and Katara's touch which ultimately helps Aang , who gives her the most menacing look eyes glowing, snap out of the almighty uncontrolled Avatar state. Despite changes like this one, I hope they make book 2 and 3.
I wish they released the music from the scene on the soundtrack and they didn’t.
The title of this video is very misleading. Aang did not turn to the Dark Side, his grief over Gyatso death simply trigger his Avatar State
This isn't Star Wars
But wouldn't having the Avatar State be triggered by rage mean he did in fact trigger a darker side of being the Avatar? Meaning if the Avatar got pissed off enough, he could become a force of destruction and kill rather than save? I think I remember a passage from the Yangchen novel that mentioned a Avatar that was so done with humanities bs. That he basically didn't bother doing his duty and let a lot of people suffer from whatever was effecting them. He basically ignored humanity and spent most of his time with the spirits instead.
If you ask me, that's the closest we have gotten to an actual evil Avatar (Unavaatu not withstanding). I mean being apathetic is one thing but imagine if that Avatar actually wanted to wipe out humanity. The Avatar may have great power but they are still human. Meaning the Avatar is just as susceptible to darker emotions as any other human.
Does anybody wonder what happened to Aang's parents, I've always wondered that for years
Think they died. He was an orphan. Probably similar to Katara where they lost their lives fighting the tyranny of The Fire Nation
@@dreamsteddybearsmasterKatara and Sokka's father is still alive though.
I wouldn't say Aang turned dark. He was just heartbroken that he wasn't there to protect Gyatso or the other Air Nomads, and it triggered the Avatar State.
I'm wondering who is Aang's parents. His family tree was not mentioned.
😢😢

There is so much missing from this adaptation. What happened to viewing the statues of past avatars as they light up when Aang enters the avatar state? Where are Katara's heartfelt words that help calm Aang down? Outside this scene, why wasn't Appa in the ice ball, why did he appear from the sky randomly? Why isn't Sokka funnier? Honestly this is such a diminished version of the original I gave up right after this scene. No point watching this watered down rendition I'll just rewatch the original animation.
No wonder the original creators left the crew for this series.

They did it, they made a GOOD live action version. Really, aang should just lob a rock at ozai and call it a day. I always found the ending scene of the original to be a cop out
I liked it. Aang was a pacifist, he didn't WANT to kill anyone, and him finding a different was suited his character. Killing is easy, especially easy when you have the power of a god, finding a way not to shows strength and wisdom.
@@logicplague2077You make it sound so simple. Yangchen said it best; this isn't about what Aang needs. This is about the world and the lives of millions of people being at stake. As the Avatar, you have to be prepared to make sacrifices, even if your own principles, if it means preventing massacres and restoring balance.
The energy bending thing could of worked out better if they had brought it up sooner and had Aang try to master it and made the stakes clear. But if it wasn't an option, I don't see any other way to stop Ozai without using lethal force. Men who are willing to commit genocide with no hesitation or remorse cannot be reasoned with and are too dangerous to be kept alive.
The only other option besides outright killing him, and again with no energy bending, would be to cripple/mutilate Ozai. Like cut off his arms and legs so he couldn't bend anymore. Or break his neck leaving him paralyzed from the neck down; essentially turning him into a vegetable. Personally, I think outright killing Ozai would actually be more merciful than leaving Ozai alive in a broken body.
