This song is the counter end from 'We'll never have problems again' and I love how Rebecca goes from one end of the extreme to the other before she finds the middle ground, that's an actual phenomenon with recovering from mental illness. This show is so clever!

Well i hate to tell you BPD is a life long condition, many , many, many people commit suicide after 2 or 3 decades because therapists won't take them , they sucessfully self diagnosed (9/9) a decade before but read the HATEFILLED COMMENTS AND DECIDE TO NEVER SEEK HELP UNTIL THEY CUT THEIR THROATS AND JUMP FROM A 20 STORE BUILDING. ( THR CUTTING IS SO THEY CAN'T SCREAM AND THE BLOOD LOSS WILL MAYBE ENOUGH TO MAKE THEM NOT NOTICE THE IMPACT.) I am sorry R. I should have seen the signs, sitting across from you but I only knew you 2 weeks! I am still so so so sorry. I'll be there if you know what i mean. It's OUR day now

@@Kris_AB I immediately felt very free and very happy. I then took care of my mom through sickness, bought a paddle board and went on the river every week over the summer, and reconnected with family.
I'm slowing down and am ready to date again, but it's hard. I learned how to run, and I learned how to protect and care for myself. Now I have to learn how to love, how to work through conflict, and how to discern who will be a good partner through it all.
He is engaged now, and I'm happy for him. They communicate better than we ever did, and he has grown enough for me to wish him well (not in the kind of ways that I'd want him back though).

It shows her misunderstanding what asexuality is, like she also misunderstood her "love triangle" situation and polyamorous relationships. The lines aren't meant to be taken as true/representative of the show's/creators opinions.

The better, non-extreme version would be, rather than saying (paraphrased) "love is always a waste of time and energy", saying "obsessive love, especially when unrequited, is a waste of time and energy; but if you should happen across love, it can be a nice thing to nurture! Don't feel like you can only be happy in a relationship; spend time nurturing yourself and your hobbies instead of obsessively trying to find someone to be with"

The song props itself up as being about love, but 90% of the lyrics are actually about sex, which really goes to show that Rebecca couldn't possibly decouple the two in her mind.

I love that she had so many revelations till she hit a stable realistic one. It shows very well how people go through stages of believing things and very often when we understand our current beliefs aren't ideal, we often go all the way the other direction, which is actually just black and white thinking.
It's very easy to hear something as a suggestion of change and try to do everything opposite of what you were doing.
It also shows the extremes people like Rebecca have to process to try to find answers.

Same here! I spent all my time in high school wondering why others wasted their time being obsessed about relationships instead of studying like me. Turns out I'm aromantic and asexual and didn't realise others weren't consciously choosing to experience romantic and sexual attraction.

I must confess this to somebody
I was very much like Rebecca, a really obsessed ex girlfriend who's doing real crazy shit (like, someone could call the police) to get her lover back and suffered from depression also and really almost everything in this show, especially the most unbelievable shit was like a nostalgia for me. Now it's been 5 years since I broke up with this love of mine and I still love her, and if I had a chance to be with her by suddenly moving to other town, I guess I'd do it haha. BUT I'm also a very passionate scientist and I have my own dreams and goals about "saving the world" and making it a better place with the power of science. And THIS SONG literally helped me so much through my life because for me it's not funny or stupid or hyperbolised. For me it's ACTUALLY a choice between "obsessive love" and "saving the world" and every time I think of this unhappy love and spend my time on this, I'm stealing the time I could be studying, volunteering, researching and thinking about other people and about nature. So just thank you, Rachel, for this :)

Listening to this on Valentine’s Day cause it’s very helpful lol. Rebecca is the most relatable character I’ve ever seen and this show is incredibly well done representation of BPD/mental illness and mixing that all in with musical theatre is amazing it’s an absolute masterpiece❤️

I'm glad they had her recognise the behaviours so it didn't become completely impossible - she hasn't closed that door. I know the whole point of the show is that we shouldn't be "shipping" people, but I do love that Nathaniel is smart and appreciates the attributes her BPD gives her, because she's still going to be the same person in the long run, she's just learning to process and manage better. With MH - and all relationships of course - you need people who love who you are when you're on top form, but are also able to handle when you're not, and Nathaniel seems like in the long run he has the potential for that, especially if they both communicated openly and worked together to find a healthy balance. Nathaniel also has his own "underlying issues to address" with regard to relationships and self-image/worth - I wonder if some of why he was so okay with Rebecca's obsessiveness is that he hasn't ever had that level of affection/appreciation from his parents etc.? He made it clear that their relationship wasn't how he normally felt/acted around people he dated. I wonder if we'll see Dr. Akopian back (I hope so!)
