I often come back to this song, even after the series has wrapped. I think it's the combination of the humour and the obvious desperation Rebecca has for Josh's affections. It's hilarious yet so sad at the same time. Don't be that girl. But so many of us are that girl :(

This concept was such a wake-up call for me. I spent several months crushing on this guy, focusing on the random times he flirted with me or chatted to me. Instead of taking into account all of the times he DIDN'T talk to me. Or how he wasn't actually asking me out on a date.

Uhg. Same. I was chasing this girl so much until I realized she literally never tried to invite me to do things together. It was always my party or lunch invite. We weren't even dating. I should have noticed that we would have been, if she was actually interested in being more than acquaintances.
When I saw this episode, I stopped texting to see if she reached out. I ended up not hearing from her for over a year. There was a Hurricane coming and she was looking for information. That's it. That's all she remembers about me. That my mother is a meteorologist.
I felt so dumb.
But at least I know I'm not the only one who has gotten myself into that rediculous place.
Words of wisdom. Absolutely the same situation here. I always create this narrative in my head that he likes me but doesn't know how to approach (and I'm stupid enough to act cold with the men I like because I'm always scared he would assume I'm a wh○re 🤦♀️ so this creates a lot of space for uncertainty and for my belief that he is actually into me 🤦♀️).
Only recently I realized that it's actually a sign of internalized misogyny - taking seriously that toxic patriarchal narrative that somehow a girl is a "wh○re" if she is active and explicit about her desires.

When I first saw this video, it hit me so profoundly. It is a great comedy skit but it's also raw and poignant in the things she says. This video perfectly describes how I felt about my ex who ironically introduced me to this show. We even watched this for the first time together. It's so terribly sad to experience this "love droplet" phenomenon. I'm glad she made a song characterizing what not feeling loved feels like.

Michael McDonald was Darryl in the Showtime pilot of the show, but I am so happy that Pete Gardner got the character when the show moved/restarted on the CW. Gardner adds such warmth to the role. Anyway, I feel like this is a joke for the audience and a bit of an inside joke for the actors and writers because of the Darryl actor change.

Straight guy here. I've fallen into this trap so many times. Watching CXG has helped me realize that I need and deserve better than the "kernels" I've gotten. I wonder how many times I've obsessed or fixated on a text or message when it was from an uninterested party. This show helps put it in perspective. If you have to fight so hard to be noticed, you're low on the priority list.

This show is just everything the world needed, despite being criminally underrated. It perfectly depicts the issues it depicts while remaining comedic in a dark way, always at the right times. As well as the audibly and visually amazing musical numbers that make my life complete. Jesus, I love this.

Okay, so I've never actually watched this show before (never even heard of it before the other day) but I seriously think this show has the best songs ever. Even missing all the context that goes with them, they're pretty great.
You should give it a try! Not only it's super funny, but the plot has the same emotional weight as the songs, the acting is great (the lead actress, Rachel Bloom, who co-created the show and writes most of the songs, also won a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award), and it ended last year after 4 seasons, so it's not the kind of show that drags on for too long. I think it's available on Netflix

I love how the lines about using up the production budget and having to replace Darryl with a broom make so much sense in the context of the song. They are not just mere meta asides. The song itself is a metaphor for her response to those love kernels that the audience sends her way in the form of ratings.
In the context of the story itself,
Rebecca lost a lot of money fuelling her obsession. So much so that she started overlooking all the things that are really important in her life, like her friends or her mental health.

Taken me ages but I’m finally getting into the meat of this show. I love how what starts as a satirical love story reveals itself in fact to be a deep exploration of mental health and social commentary on societal expectations. Only half way through season 3 but excited to see where we go from here.

I found this TV show when I was going through a really difficult time w/ a FWB. It got complicated... he led me on in a big way and then just ended back up w/ his ex. Anyway, this show was so incredibly relatable and that’s why it was amazing! Yes the main character is a little crazy haha but the stuff she does is something so many are guilty of (myself included), including this song! It helped me see how absurd I was being, but in a funny way 😂

I didn't particularly think much of this song watching it Friday night (beyond Broom Daryl of course), but after watching this, there is a ton that I didn't catch first time around that really elevates this song for me.
I love how after all of the comments on other CXG videos about the meta-ness “starting to get a little out of hand,” this is still the most meta of all the meta. She’s literally speaking directly to the audience.
I love this song, it’s actually catchy and her voice is amazing. It’s comedy excellence and touches everyone who has accepted sub par relationships.
