ELRS like many things in FPV has an initial learning curve, but flattens quickly after first successes. Now that we no longer have spi elrs on AIO its much better too.
Hi Nick, is it possible to fit a walksnail avatar nano vtx to this lightning 1, it has two spare uarts, would have to disconnect the camera and shut down the anolog somehow! What do you think? Alastair
Nick, I have been flying mine for several months and it is great! I have one question. This has the integrated ELRS receiver using a UART, and I have upgraded my radio to EELRS V3. I can not seem to get it to bind to the radio. I appears to have no wireless update feature through the receiver. Do I need to use pass through in ELRS configurator? If so, what is the target and Device Category?
No, that is the big downside to this AIO, with ELRS being spi based the elrs version is "baked" into the version of betaflight. So to upgrade elrs betaflight firmware has to be updated as well. If you take that one be double sure to save a copy of the cli dump so you can refer or roll back to that state.
@@NickBurnsFPV It took three days and a fair amount of hair loss LOL! to fix the issue! Turns out that ELRS V3 does not like a baud rate of D250, D500, L250, L500 or L1000 set in the ELRS script. There is a page on the ELRS Github site that i found after a crap ton of UA-cam and internet searching to include asking you and Josh Bardwell. Josh did not reply by the way! i do not like to update because of precisely this reason, and the other 8 other quads with SPI have worked with the baud set to D500 when I was on ELRS V2. I think 150 might be a touch high with no additional info or reputation built up and no ability to utilize the website and cant purchase backup frames etc...maybe start around 110? And get some units out there and build up some trust and a name and build up the website and more offerings like bare frames etc and then raise the prices once youve gained some traction in the community. 150 for a shot in the dark with no backyp frames etc or info on the website to help build a little more confidence in the company just seems like theyre asking full lrice without quite having fully gotten this offer worked out completely. We need a website, we need backup parts and frames, we need all the info on it, and we need that reputation and confidence in them built up. Until then. 100-120 for a gamble seems like a more reasonable offer. I want one but im honestly thinking i couldn't get another baby nazgul or something i know i can trust 100% for the same price or less... they need to come into the market swinging with a complete website and a deal we cant refuse in order to jump this thing off i feel lik
Hi Nick, Great video and review of the YMZFPV Lightning. Yes I like it. No, I don't like the price. At first I thought Spoiler, I have to get one, I figured great they are using the Happymodel X-12, great flight controller, Caddx ant, good camera, 1103 14000kv motors, and a neat looking frame. But I would have liked to have seen this closer to the Darwin prices. Thanks again for the video and information about this quad and company.
It’s seems a good business idea would have to bring the price down and gain more interest and awareness to the brand with a price bang out the door. Or do a temp price reduction or a limited coupon
Had to go back and check the GPS you mentioned. I thought maybe they offered it with GPS, but no. I did put a micro m10 on a baby ape. For no good reason, I just like it
@@NickBurnsFPV in part, yes. GPS rescue or being able to pull logs to see last known position as I don't trust rescue in BF so much. But the osd of relative speed kind of nice if not actually useless.
Pretty late for a comment but hpw does this compare to the tp3 toothpick or babytooth?. Im skeptical about it out performing the tp3 in most aspects. The tp3 is already extremely efficient, agile and quiet but what do you think Mr. Burns?
Its been a very long time since I have flown a tp3, I recall I liked the 3s iteration more than the 1s. I didn't think the motor/prop response what was I was looking for on 1.
would you say the lightning 1 outperforms even the 3s iteration of toothpick?or what about the 3s toothpick running on 2s vs the lightning?@@NickBurnsFPV
This looks like an awesome ripper! Love to see new companies coming out with quality products I have been wanting a 2s ripper that's not a "toothpick/whoop design and this looks perfect however I'm confused as to why it has 14000kv motors but the site only has 10000kv🤔 I really hope they offer it with the 14000kv motors also some people want longer flights some want more power....put me down for power 😁 the price isn't bad at all in my opinion with elrs🙏🏼 Another excellent review nick and great pointing out the motor issue ✌🏼
My curiosity today makes me wonder if they used 14000kv motors on mine with a throttle/motor limit. Unfortunately I am away from home until next week now.
@@scu-dub 14000kv will be good for low pitch 2015 bi blade props on 2s. But damn check out the pitch difference to the gemfan 2023. 14000kv is too much on 2s. Just read the 1003 rcinpower motor data sheet. Nick will probably confirm a MOL
Nice to see a brand new company entering the marketplace for FPV! Sure, it's a little heavy for a 2", but that aluminum frame cover is really cool looking and protects things pretty good. Too bad they sent you 14K motors and we see the zippy flights with those motors, but we'll be getting 10K motors...a huge difference! Kinda wondering how they got 14K motors to not burn out on 2S?? We can probably return some of the zippiness of backing down to 10K motors by using a smaller, much lighter lipo. Nick, did you try your favorite NanoTech 300 mah lipo to see how it performed? Still, even though it's just an analog quad, and I refuse to invest in analog products ... And have for a couple of years now, it's new to FPV and we're kinda sparse with new companies coming into the hobby! So, qudos to YMZFPV! WELCOME! 😎🤘 P.S. My self built DJI Vista 2" quad would be almost exactly the same weight as this quad, if I made it a Naked Vista 2" like I originally planned to do. So, yes, it is heavy, but it's a very nice effort for a new manufacturers first quad in FPV! 👍
Hi nick great review you are micro man is it better than the flywoo 2inch? I have one and was wondering if i need to upgrade because they know longer make the 1.5 mm frame now discontinued they have 2.5mm but its 5 grams heavier and i already changed the canopy and added a antlite so im heavy wanna feel agile again. The canopy is the steamline from tks frame still order from them thx to you is the lighting agile . Is it worth the upgrade?
@@NickBurnsFPV so I have an emax ez pilot pro, I have a flywoo firefly fr both 1s, I’ve got a crux35 which annoying doesn’t fit in the case with props on, so I was looking for something 2-3” to take away with me on holidays, the crux35 is a tiny bit big and the flywoo is impossibly small, I think I’d like more performance that the tiny fr, if I get a 2s I would be buying a few batteries, I have 6s 4s and 1s batteries, I liked the 1-2 s crux3 but it’s not elrs and no one has it, and I can’t build one for the same price lol, so I was just wondering what you thought, I don’t have your skills so I fly around slower, I do like slightly longer flight times but I’m happy to change batteries, I’ve outgrown the ez pilot, currently batteries last around 60-90 seconds when I get that out it has the PMB tune without the mixing , sorry I appear to have written a small book !
@@Dad_with_a_drone I presume your goggles are analog? I think one to also to consider that is 2s and 2inch is the flywoo nano baby 20. Its lighter and smaller than the lightning 1. I prefer 2inch 2s, still small and has great agility but I don't believe it flies as long as the 3inch 1 quads. So depending on what your preference would be....size or flight time and how strong one preference over the other is that would dictate the choice. If flight time crux3 1s is the choice if size then flywoo nano baby 20, one thing to note on the nano baby 20, i don't think the vtx is as good as other vtx at the same power level. Be sure to compare the video reception of the lightning 1 vs nano baby 20. I don't mind the "booK' at all, it actually helps me be able to understand and reply more appropriately.
@@NickBurnsFPV thankyou that’s super helpful, I hadn’t considered the nano baby 20 primarily because my flywoo fr had to go back to the shop 3 times and I ended up replacing the camera rather than sending it back again! Also my for was whisper quiet and about 20 packs in it’s started to sound rattly and I haven’t had a heavy crash with it, so I wasn’t sure what the longevity would be ! I’ve been getting 12-16 mins with an 850 on my crux35 and I’ve realised 3-4 mins with a small one is fine for me, as I really don’t mind changing battery packs and heading back out, it gives my mind a bit of a rest lol, so I don’t think flight time really effects me that much ! so would you choose the flywoo over all else in that range ? I’ve also considered just building one, I seem to prefer a 400mw vtx just because where I usually fly it just gives a more stable video, I am analogue, I have the cobra x box goggles, I can’t seem to get along with the smaller goggle, I really liked my emax beginner box goggles but the range it very very poor and they don’t record lol
@@Dad_with_a_drone the vtx is a weak spot with analog mw power and overall signal quality. I do think considering the lightning 1 is wise as it does have a better camera and 400mw. Its just heavier than it needs to be with the metal components. This extra weight decreases the overall performance some. But with them being a new company they could be more concerned about QC and overall longevity.
Sorry for replying late went rc car racing but its a hglrc draknight is identical in most ways except motors keep up the videos my man there gggrrrreeeeeaaat happy safe flying
Wow, those motors on your race rocket might be awesome. Granted I hear u on not being able to tune that well. I’ve noticed when you go to the extremes on low weight like your race rocket, it’s much harder to tune . But as the weight goes up it seems much easier to find a tune that works , so maybe that’s what’s happening
@@NickBurnsFPV I used to always try everything to shave weight of all my builds but kept running into that hurdle. Atleast at my tuning skill level sometimes it’s better to have a little weight. That being said that build flies great
I do like the look of this one! With TomoQuads out of the game I really wish someone would make another rear camera perspective frame like the old X Fighter.

Whats interesting is that this frame, the aluminum canopy part, looks almost exactly the same at the Diatone GT Marauder 5" from 2018. I had to pull out one of my old frame kits to check because I was like, wait, is that a 2 inch Marauder?
I built a 2" armattan tadpole using a Darwin tiny ape i had broken the frame on broken and 2 more motor posts on it. Replaced the motors with 1104 7500kv. Weighs 71 grams no battery, 107 with rdq 550 2s battery. I get 5 minute flight times. Half the flight time the tiny ape got with smaller motors. I think I'm going to get one of the lighting 1 and give it try.
Confused; they appear to be 14K motors according to the labelling, but the company says it ships with 10K, which would make it fly completely differently? I'm concerned that what they've shipped you for review may be different from what they sell to us mere mortals.
Yes, 100% that is a concern. I am leaning towards they may have put a throttle or motor limit on the one they sent. As normally 14000kv on 2s with 2inch triblades would be problematic, not just pid tune, but very short flight time. I would like to circle back to that motor limit but I am away with family now. :(
@@joehubbard-bz2sd Yeah, it really annoys me. It's basically a toy. We already have laws to deal with criminal damage and other stuff. All this new nonsense is silly.
After reading a few similar comments i looked it up. and for sure they are similar looking quads. Some differences I see. Single arm vs dual, lightning 1 has all metal parts across the top, drashark are 3d prints. The uprights are very very similar with slight difference in the drashark seemingly has holes in the uprights. The angles also appear different...where the drashark looks like it could take a second layer for HD video system. But yes, they do look similar. One person also commented this frame was on aliexpress as a geprc product but they didn't link it, and I don't see anything similar on aliexpress under the geprc brand.

I emailed them and they said this to the 14000kv motors :)
Hi, no problem, We will add 14000KV option in the store, you can place an order on our official website later, thank you for your support
Funny. I wonder if something got lost in translation
Not sure, I guess time will tell, I was pretty straight forward in the email.
They emailed me again and said it has been updated for 14000kv on the site.
@@JonR35 I just got back and I do not find a throttle limit or motor reduction.
Looks like they added the 14000kv to site, woohooo!
Good thoughts here. I do agree as well. I would have liked to see a website fully outfitted before launching a product for sale.
Or do a temp price reduction or a limited coupon
this kind of looks like the hglrc draknight but without the arm braces (i think thats what they're called?)
Is this the new one they have been marketing, but not available?
Had to go back and check the GPS you mentioned. I thought maybe they offered it with GPS, but no. I did put a micro m10 on a baby ape. For no good reason, I just like it
lol. I get that you like it, but what does it give you? Peace of mind that you won't lose it?
@@NickBurnsFPV in part, yes. GPS rescue or being able to pull logs to see last known position as I don't trust rescue in BF so much. But the osd of relative speed kind of nice if not actually useless.

I like it and fantastic review Nick
The aluminum canopy looks almost exactly the same as the Diatone GT Marauder 5" from 2017-2018.
@@faktionfpv3590 no the lightning 1 doesn't outperform the tp3 on 3s.
14000kv is too much. Check out the rcinpower 1003 motor data sheet.
My curiosity today makes me wonder if they used 14000kv motors on mine with a throttle/motor limit. Unfortunately I am away from home until next week now.
@NickBurnsFPV I would love to know if they did 👍🏼I think 14000kv and 21000 is perfect for a 2s 2inch quad if they offer it in 14 I'm grabbing one😁✌🏼
@@scu-dub just got back. I do not find a throttle limit or any motor reduction.
AS Joshua Bardwell says, "Ray from the future here! the website has all of the things that Nick mentioned in this video!"
WELCOME! 😎🤘
P.S. My self built DJI Vista 2" quad would be almost exactly the same weight as this quad, if I made it a Naked Vista 2" like I originally planned to do. So, yes, it is heavy, but it's a very nice effort for a new manufacturers first quad in FPV! 👍
I didn't test the nanotech 300mahs. Didn't occur to me...oops. I am likely going to visit the naked 03 front soon. I have a few kits coming.
To get that agile feel we have to get the weight back. This one isn’t as agile as the flywoo
Hi Nick, are you picking this or the elrs crux 3 1s.. or would you pick something else completely??
Depends. do you have batteries for both or just one? What is your flight goals? Long flight time, performance?

Is it possible to fly with a lightweight Thumb Camera (Runcam Tumb Or hawk Eye Thumb)?
yes it's possible.
Im really interested in the tune of this quad!
the betaflight cli dump with the tune is on the ymzfpv.com downloads section
Sorry for replying late went rc car racing but its a hglrc draknight is identical in most ways except motors keep up the videos my man there gggrrrreeeeeaaat happy safe flying
I will certainly be interesting to see them both side by side
Wow, those motors on your race rocket might be awesome. Granted I hear u on not being able to tune that well. I’ve noticed when you go to the extremes on low weight like your race rocket, it’s much harder to tune . But as the weight goes up it seems much easier to find a tune that works , so maybe that’s what’s happening
That very well could be. I certainly haven't built a micro at this weight to test the 1003 motors on.
The x fighter was a one of a kind for sure.
I miss Tomoquads, AirbladeUAV and GnarlyFPV. Luckily there's still a way to get the AirbladeUAV frames.
