World Environment Day: Internally Displaced Persons are beating plastic pollution in Mozambique

Ibo Island is the most populated island in Quirimbas National Park. Conflict and natural hazards led to increased waste exacerbated by the lack of a waste management system. IOM and its partners stepped in and proposed a solution. The intervention is being carried out through a community-led approach, creating an economic incentive for recycling through the “waste to wealth” approach, which has three pillars: Awareness Raising, Plastic Collection, and Plastic Re-Use.
