The Kriegsmarine had a number of those reckless souls, his orders were probably to attack allied supply ships and tankers supporting the advance,October “44” was also the time of “Operation Market Garden” which required a large influx of supplies that were likely depleted after the summer’s campaign….
Great fun to watch, sure that second UBoat got some bruises from that. That periscope and the whole con tower might have been in the wrong spot at the wrong time, don't think they'll do much hunting anymore. And great aim on the first one.
7.24 'do we have any more rockets left'?' last two rockets fired wildly into the channel, 'yeah we do', not any more you plonker! Laughing my arse off. Cheers Taff, that was priceless.
The moment I heard your flight was Acorn I couldn't help but remember the squirrel from Open Season and imagine one with a slingshot as nose art for that Mosi.
If I was that U-boat captain, I'd have stayed on the surface after observing you not fusing your bombs and not stepping on left rudder when strafing until the last moment. Those were some safe waters :D
Rocket tips: the 4.5 inch rockets were designed to fly a ballistically stable course under water. Attacking ships or submarines, approach from the beam, and launch your rockets to hit the water just short of the target. The rockets will penetrate the hull below the waterline, causing fatal damage. Use your .303s for ranging.
Welcome back to IL-2 taff, this was a truly fantastic special treat, it reminded me of your Mosquito campaign you covered so that was wonderful in it's own right. Great job in hurting the enemy U-boat fleet, those we're the early war variants weren't they? Interesting to see those in operation, unless they were being used for coastal raids or training, it's great to see you back in IL-2 - really is. If your enjoying playing around with the bombers might I recommend the campaigns you get with the Junkers 88, Junkers 87s or even the allied bombers, I've had a lot of fun with the B26 Maurader and even the A20 Havocs, well worth playing with if your interested. Thanks for the great special, loved it, stay safe and happy gaming mate 👏👍
Reminds me of an old Atari cartridge game I used to play called, "Ace of Aces". You flew a Mosquito in a variety of missions, one of which was hunting U-Boats in the Channel. One of my favourites from back in the day. Il-2 looks a little better, I guess. :)
How u manage to finding fun in all your titles and make game progress is quite remarkable and unlike many episodic creators u have some mental and emotional muscles fer sure
Love your air content - main thing for me here, also Im thinking I might get B17 one day, who knows. Anyways, have you thought about doing I-16 career? Could be a great and tough challenge!
Sounding a little better Taff, I don't know when you recorded this but we all hope you get well soon. You kinda sounded like you were suffering a little in the War on the Seas series.
Bombing hits: Approach from astern in shallow dive, release all bombs in one salvo to straddle the target. The underwater explosions will break the back of the submarine, rupture the ballast tanks, and shatter the battery banks.
Rockets would ‘swim’ under water and were fired to hit just in front of the target as they would carry on through the water on a flat trajectory and punch right through the u boat hull
When you noted how tricky the Mossie is to fly I heard the Fat Electrician in my head, "Since this is basically a paper airplane with a V8 attached." Also, are there no depth charges in IL2? Standard load out for sub hunting is depth charges set for shallow depth. Even if they don't hit they still go off and damage the sub. Thanks for the vid. The Mosquito is my favourite WWII aircraft and I love watching it in action.
Two (count 'em) TWO U-Boats surfaced IN DAYLIGHT in the ENGLISH CHANNEL in 1944! Probably the least likely scenario I've ever seen from the IL-2 game developers. BTW, by this time in the war, these light, coastal types of U-Boat were strictly training vessels and rarely seen outside the Baltic.
That second 'unterwässerboten' was idiotic to resurface so soon after being under air attack, the good die yough, so does the foolish!, the 'mossie' was one marvelous bird, having the pilot and navigator sit next to one another, begs whether the chaps shared a 'cup of flasked tea' during their long nuisance raids over occupied Europe! 😂
A 20mm pop gun is hardly worthy of the term "Naval Gun"! And yes, Taff, those were little Type II u-boats! Also ever so slightly obsolete for October 1944. By that point in the war, they were strictly used as training subs in the Baltic Sea: definitely not suitable for use in front-line operational environments.
Yeah those poor little Type II's out for a jolly sail and looking for the Knackerwurst monster and here you are coming along to spoil the fun and scare away the Knackerwurst monster...
So I have these games. The original games. And when I try to run them on windows 10. They run like in fast forward. Can you do a vid on your setup to run this on win 10.
Out of curiosity, why didn't those bombs detonate? Is that a game mechanic with a chance of failure? The drop was pretty close and should have caused concussion damage.
Somewhat. Not sure about the details of it and how realistic it's modelled, but as I understand it, there is a certain time before the bombs arm. You can set a fuse for a delayed detonation, I usually have it on 4 or 5 sec, that takes care of the problem. But I beliefe there could also be something else at play, since sometimes bombs still don't explode when dropped from too low, but maybe the game just has duds... don't know... (same in il2- 1946, maybe even more so)
Yes, if the bombs dont have enough time in the air (don't know if velocity plays into it) they won't explode which is probably what happened to the bombs here
A U-boat causing trouble in the English Channel in October 1944, that’s a suicidal U-boat captain if I’ve ever seen one.
The Kriegsmarine had a number of those reckless souls, his orders were probably to attack allied supply ships and tankers supporting the advance,October “44” was also the time of “Operation Market Garden” which required a large influx of supplies that were likely depleted after the summer’s campaign….
Using the external views is so awesome it adds so much to the video
You could see the delight on Sebastian's face after that first attack run.
I think you may of forgotten to arm those bombs before you dropped them 😂 great video as always Taff
or they still have a 10 second delay from a previous mission ? :D
Great fun to watch, sure that second UBoat got some bruises from that. That periscope and the whole con tower might have been in the wrong spot at the wrong time, don't think they'll do much hunting anymore. And great aim on the first one.

The moment I heard your flight was Acorn I couldn't help but remember the squirrel from Open Season and imagine one with a slingshot as nose art for that Mosi.
Back in the Mossie, nice! You've made a middle-aged man happy! Or old, depends who you ask :D Thanks so much!
If I was that U-boat captain, I'd have stayed on the surface after observing you not fusing your bombs and not stepping on left rudder when strafing until the last moment. Those were some safe waters :D

Also, ripple fire all eight in one go. Maximizes hit probability, minimizes risk from return fire.
Does the game have that much accuracy to let the rockets ‘swim’?
@@geordiedog1749 Good question. Taff should conduct some controlled experiments.

I love how the rocket carrying Flight lead is nowhere to be seen with the Second Sub spoted
Nerd to use the mollins gun on those u boats be amazing to see, great vid as always Taff. 🙂👍
My two favorite WW2 aircraft were the Mosquito and the P-38 Lightning. I must have built 4 or 5 different models of them
Has Sebastian came back from the dead? Zombie Sebastian!
Sebastian has such a jawnty scarf on today. Smashing!

Love the self-firing AA gun on the deck @6:26. I guess the programmer forgot to model the crew. 😏
It's always a good day when you release a flying video, and in my favourite plane on my birthday no less! Cracking stuff, mate.
Great series hope to see more of the mosquito
That last attack looked like you punched a few holes in the conning tower
MORE Mossie please and thank you 🙏
Thoroughly enjoyed your previous videos/ series on the Mosquito, glad you've done another video with it, perhaps another series? :)
A full mosquito career?😮
How u manage to finding fun in all your titles and make game progress is quite remarkable and unlike many episodic creators u have some mental and emotional muscles fer sure
Just love the mozzie nice to see you flying it again great shot on the first u boat
Great to see you flying again! Please let us have a WW1 campaign. The views on the Se5 vlog tells you how popular that would be...
The Mozzie is so multi role i’m surprised theres not alot more missions/content.
I'd love to see a coastal command career, either with a Beaufighter or another plane
Love your air content - main thing for me here, also Im thinking I might get B17 one day, who knows. Anyways, have you thought about doing I-16 career? Could be a great and tough challenge!
Good stuff as ever, Taff. Enjoy your time off!
Great mission! Love to see the Mossie in action
Please good note on these IL2 GB videos, ESPECIALLY there mozzie, absolutely love them
Sounding a little better Taff, I don't know when you recorded this but we all hope you get well soon. You kinda sounded like you were suffering a little in the War on the Seas series.
I like seeing air-to-sea combat from you in this game

Nice seeing th Mossie in a mission
Rockets would ‘swim’ under water and were fired to hit just in front of the target as they would carry on through the water on a flat trajectory and punch right through the u boat hull
that is a nice sortie! thank you Taff
We need more il-2 careers like fly in RCAF Spitfire or USAF P-47?.
When you noted how tricky the Mossie is to fly I heard the Fat Electrician in my head, "Since this is basically a paper airplane with a V8 attached."

The first attack was brutal!Since i am a silent hunter 3 player i was rooting for the uboats to escape though(lol)!
I ❤ Mossies! Thank you, Taff!
Il2 content, thank you Taff! XD
Very nice to watch!

2nd U-Boat commanded by the Rogue Keptin Buck O'Hare? (looks amazing by the way) Deffo more air to ship action.
I see a Mosquito with rockets, I see a good time!👍🏾
Yeah those poor little Type II's out for a jolly sail and looking for the Knackerwurst monster and here you are coming along to spoil the fun and scare away the Knackerwurst monster...
Here i sit, broken hearted...DCS Mossie dupe. Cheers to IL2 for getting WWII aviation mostly right.
that is going to bother me forever now, seeing that those early uboat models have an M2 browning as their AA weapon
Aren't you glad you didn't wait for flight lead to attack first ! AI flight lead was off in fairy land ( dreaming about fairy battles probably ?) :D
That was a lot of fun. 😊
Good mission!
Good show Chaps
Thankyou this is my fave plane
A Type II U-boat in 1944? The Kriegsmarine must be getting desperate.
So I have these games. The original games. And when I try to run them on windows 10. They run like in fast forward. Can you do a vid on your setup to run this on win 10.
Brilliant!
...and a type II...poor guys.
Out of curiosity, why didn't those bombs detonate? Is that a game mechanic with a chance of failure? The drop was pretty close and should have caused concussion damage.
He probably dropped them too low, the bombs have like a propeller that has to spin up before they are armed and ready to blow
werent those bombs supposed to detonate on impact (with water)?
btw are you using a joystick or keyboard and mouse?
Sebastian ignores your handiwork.
What is he like? 😅
Is this mission available for download?
Das Boot is kaput.
Please do a mosie campaign
Anyone know if there is a minimum drop altitude modeled in game?

you should set up your attack runs a lil bit better...stay calm ;-) and you do not need too much speed
IID
Nope. It's Uboat IIA with training markings.
Thank God you werent a pilot back then
