    You get your personnel killed doing something stupid and then you get rewarded with a medal for it. This is a surprisingly accurate military simulator..

    Poor Sebastian. Taking on five FW-190's?!? Madness! That is Guy Gibson level hubris.

    I'm from the States, born and raised in Buffalo NY & always favored US & Soviet aircraft believe that or not. However, there's something about the Mossie & Hornet that are simply graceful yet ominous. Thank God the wonderful Britons gave Packard permission to produce the Rolls Royce Merlin. It was/is the pinnacle of performance for this type & era of aircraft.

    Shame about Sebastian, he'll be missed.

    I'm sure Sebastian had an identical twin brother who is also a navigator on Mossie's, think he's called Herbert, i wonder if he'll get transfered?

    Tense and heart in the mouth episode taff, that was a very costly flight.. the only good thing in the outcome of this flight was that you survived, aircraft can be replaced but lives is another thing. Sebastian's loss is something that Eddie could have done without, that's a steep price for taking on Luftwaffe fighters, still.. and I will say "still".. that's a great addition to the squadron.. another FW190 to the tally. Take it from me mate, this is just some advice.. I'm not giving orders or being offensive or anything.. don't misunderstand me.. if I we're you.. I'd make myself scarce after I took down a lone fighter, well in all honesty I'd flee from the start if I was wondering over occupied enemy territory on a solo flight, and spotted a distant aircraft, you see any aircraft assume they are bandits, targets of opertunity is one thing.. Night flights are one thing.. but broad daylight and no cover.. far too risky. Don't lose heart, failure is our GREATEST teacher, take what you've experienced and see to it that your next navigator lives at your side. I wouldn't have expected you to get through a campaign without being shot down though, that would have been bewildering, still you live to fight another day.. getting out alive is something to be grateful for. This is the burden all bomber and fighter-bomber crews had to face, so.. in a way.. it's being in their bodies. Love this series, really I do.. the Mosquito campaign is something that is been long overdue and let's hope Eddie James gets through this tour of duty, great series.. keep it up, learn from the mistakes and happy hunting 👍

    Question. Does Sebastian (or Nigel, whoever is flying right seat that day) do any call outs? Frustrating part of flying the IL-2 (actual) Sturmovik: Yuri in the back would first run himself out of ammunition without hitting anything, then just sit there in his strap, swigging vodka from a flask and somehow enjoying the show while an AI Bf-109 made repeated MG passes all the way across the Kuban map.
    Fortunately the Messerschmitt had run out of cannon. Shredded the right wing to the point I had to hold full left stick to keep it level. At least he could have taken out Yuri so I could have had a chance at getting a gunner who was not useless dead weight the next time around.
    Landing that flying colander was one of the proudest accomplishments of my undistinguished IL-2 career.

      @@timonsolus The Mosquito was much faster than most Luftwaffe fighters, except the jets. Most reconnaissance missions were flown by lone mosquitoes in broad daylight

    • @timonsolus
      @timonsolus Рік тому +1

      @@charlesc.9012 : Yeah, the Mosquito's top speed (without bombs) was 415 mph at 28,000 feet. That's 10 mph faster than the Bf 109G-6 and Fw 190A-8. Only the Bf 109K-4 and Fw 190D were 5 mph faster.
      However, the Mosquito's speed advantage was best used in avoiding combat. Dogfighting with single-engined fighters was definitely not recommended, as the Mosquito bled off speed very rapidly in tight turns. One diving attack pass and then running was the best attack strategy.

    The pilot of that Fw-190 must have been a "rookie" (poor kid) getting shot down by a twin engine aircraft. With all respect to the De Havilland Mosquito Mk VI, you should have stood no chance in that dogfight. The main asset your Mosquito has is its speed: so why bleed off all that speed climbing up to tangle with FIVE more bandits? The Mosquito may be fast and well armed, but it is made of wood and unarmoured. Once an Fw-190 got on your "six", you were on toast and Sebastian paid with his life. The merciful bit is Sebastian wouldn't have suffered with a 20mm cannon shell in his brain.

    • @Ukraineaissance2014
      @Ukraineaissance2014 Рік тому +1

      The armaments on some mosquitoes could obliterate aircraft in a tiny burst, which is why they were formidable night fighters. All the mosquito needs is a bit of skill and luck to get its guns on target briefly and its enemy is mincemeat. Boom and zoom tactics ended the zero's dominance.
      Also its a game obviously, risks are the fun bit.

    I watch your videos for the engaging stories...
    So I've gotten used to your tragic deflection shooting.
    But the fact that you didn't feathered the propeller on a dead engine. Subsequently, you cooked your no.1 engine... I've gnashed my teeth already.
    However, the fact that you caused such a situation and then you abandoned your friend and your plane at the mercy of their fate. That was too much. How did you know he was dead? There's a chance he was unconscious, I don't want to imagine these things.
    Although you couldn't get to the coast, due to the errors mentioned above... You could still try to ditch the plane as close as possible. So that you can investigate the condition of your navigator and whether it is possible to save him eventually.
    You certainly had to describe it in good story form to your intelligence officer to fit it for DFM...
