I'm an old lady just starting to investigate ways to use a truck and one thing I definitely needed was tiedowns in the back. For what it costs to have them installed I could buy a topper instead :) This is both brilliant and well explained. Thank you so much!
I hope it serves you well Mary Elizabeth!
Brilliant, you should run for President
No thanks - not my cup of tea!
Finally -- Someone who explains the danger of crossloading. Super convenient for most basic needs, just don't strap down your hydraulic press right in the middle of the bed and drive through the countryside. 😊
Awesome idea! My 2007 Colorado crewbcab has no stakeholes and only the four tiedown loops in the front of bed and two in the back. This is the perfect solution!
Awesome! Hope it works well John.
I did this with a looped rope… this is so much better!
Enjoy!
I'm going to make a lighter duty version of this for extra tarp attachment points along the middle of my truck bed, without the turnbuckles and links...just some lighter chain and caribiners. Thanks for the idea!
Fantastic idea!
This is great. I’m fighting with tying things down right now for a camping trip. This is going to make things so much easier.
Awesome! It really helps organize.
Nice. Idea. Ill use that next road trip in my truck.
Its super handy!
Damn, this is a super smart idea!
And its super handy!
Genius…You the Man!!
Just passing along the information - its super handy though!
Great idea. I don't understand why these new trucks have the rail for the cargo system at the top of the sides of the bed. They need to be at the bottom so you can tie things down .
agreed!
Wowza, thank you so much for the idea and tutorial. My neighbor was cleaning out his garage, gave me enuf chain for the project. I have secured many items, such as a floor lamp and patio chairs using bungie cords to the chain.
Awesome! Glad to hear its helpful!
Great idea
Genius!! Thanks for this hack!
Glad I could pass it on!

Great hack!!!!! this will help me out a lot. Thanks man!
Absolutely - its super handy!
Cheap, Practical, & Useful...THANKS!
Glad it was helpful!
great idea. I would really be good if you are just using a cargo net over the top to hold things down. Would give you the tie downs all the way around the truck for just normal camping type items. I could see adding these all the way around the front and sides of the bed. Thanks for posting.
That would be a perfect use!
That is such a great idea . Thakss
You're welcome.
That’s a tremendous idea!
Very helpful.
I see a lot of bedliners along the interstate. This chain would also very securely hold a liner in.
Good point- silver lining benefit!
Well that's bloody awesome. Cheers.
Its super handy!!!
That's pretty cool I will definitely send it to my father keep it up
Thanks Jared! These quick ones are fun!
Gander Flight ur very welcome keep on making
Great tip
Enjoy!
Great hack!!! I’ll definitely be doing this soon!! Thanks for sharing, I’ve subscribed!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great idea! Thanks
Absolutely !
Great Hack!
Yeah its truly been helpful keeping the little stuff in place!
just a point to think about, your rigging is rated by the lowest rated point of failure. that being said, i wouldn’t worry so much about breaking a chain link as much as i would worry about the factory attachment points. one or two ratchet straps tighten down is one thing but more than that might over stress the attachment points. i’m not saying don’t do it, just be mindful that you’ll probably rip the attachment points before you break a chain’s link
Lyle Miller absolutely correct! And based on load ratings and metal diameters my guess is that the turn buckles would be the first to fail
Gander Flight tbh, if your truck is like mine (04 dodge ram 3500) the tie downs are threaded inserts spot welded into place with tie hooks bolted in them and with those turn buckles , i’d put my money on ripping the sheet metal before anything else failed lol
@@GanderFlight I understand you're only talking about toads in groceries.Yes 1300 lbs. Wood rip the side of the bed off 😂 I canp and kind of like the idea 👍
Not a bad fix honestly, i make pretty outrageous grocery trips and this would probably help a ton
It is super convenient and pretty inexpensive to try.
Genius
It is a fantastic idea - wish I had come up with it myself! Just glad I can share the idea :)
Ingenious
👍
Dude thanks for saving me 300 bucks!
I find it super useful - hopefully it works for you too!
If there’s any sag in the chain, does that mean that it has to be tightened more in order for this to work properly?
Not necessarily - just depends on how tight you need things to be tied.
Like the idea, but don’t necessarily need these chains all the time. Thinking of just the chain with a quick link on each end. Attach when I need to and put behind the back seat when I don’t. Tightening attachment straps down should do the job of making the chain taut.
Would definitely work that way too - at the same time - what does it HURT to have them there all the time?
@@GanderFlight Hurts nothing. Just a preference.
Great Video thxs
Glad you enjoyed it.
Tiedowns for ATVs?
Nope - ATV would be too heavy for this
Great video :)
Thanks!
Sweet
Tie it down!
Lol. I just watched the original video from gardening with puppies before this one
👍
Wonder if he realizes that this is kinda already built in to the bed liner already. About 5 links back from the from tie down you can see a cut out. It will fit a 2x4- 2x however tall you want in there snug. There is usually 3 to four of these in the bed so just a piece of wood stays in my truck all the time to do exactly this job
Yupp - just not as incremental in the lashing points
Can you explain this more? I’m not understanding how a 2x4 gets you more tie down points. I’d really like to know how to do this.
@100LL81 I think he is just saying that if you add say a 2x6 into the slots built into the truck, it can hold your groceries at the back of the truck so they don't slide to the front. It however does not make a "tie down" so your light groceries could still fly out of the bed if you don't have them in a covered tote.
You have two tie downs, and you didn't even show how they are installed
How the actual tie downs on the truck bed are installed from the factory?
U stole the idea from someone else.
I gave credit to the video that sparked the project and I also changed some of the equipment and explained why. Thanks for watching!
