    I'm an old lady just starting to investigate ways to use a truck and one thing I definitely needed was tiedowns in the back. For what it costs to have them installed I could buy a topper instead :) This is both brilliant and well explained. Thank you so much!

    I'm going to make a lighter duty version of this for extra tarp attachment points along the middle of my truck bed, without the turnbuckles and links...just some lighter chain and caribiners. Thanks for the idea!

    Great idea. I don't understand why these new trucks have the rail for the cargo system at the top of the sides of the bed. They need to be at the bottom so you can tie things down .

    great idea. I would really be good if you are just using a cargo net over the top to hold things down. Would give you the tie downs all the way around the truck for just normal camping type items. I could see adding these all the way around the front and sides of the bed. Thanks for posting.

    just a point to think about, your rigging is rated by the lowest rated point of failure. that being said, i wouldn’t worry so much about breaking a chain link as much as i would worry about the factory attachment points. one or two ratchet straps tighten down is one thing but more than that might over stress the attachment points. i’m not saying don’t do it, just be mindful that you’ll probably rip the attachment points before you break a chain’s link

    • @GanderFlight
      @GanderFlight  4 роки тому +5

      Lyle Miller absolutely correct! And based on load ratings and metal diameters my guess is that the turn buckles would be the first to fail

    • @Lmiller201
      @Lmiller201 4 роки тому +4

      Gander Flight tbh, if your truck is like mine (04 dodge ram 3500) the tie downs are threaded inserts spot welded into place with tie hooks bolted in them and with those turn buckles , i’d put my money on ripping the sheet metal before anything else failed lol

    If there’s any sag in the chain, does that mean that it has to be tightened more in order for this to work properly?

    • @GanderFlight
      @GanderFlight  2 роки тому

      Not necessarily - just depends on how tight you need things to be tied.

  • @BrianMull
    @BrianMull 7 місяців тому

    Like the idea, but don’t necessarily need these chains all the time. Thinking of just the chain with a quick link on each end. Attach when I need to and put behind the back seat when I don’t. Tightening attachment straps down should do the job of making the chain taut.

    • @GanderFlight
      @GanderFlight  5 місяців тому

      Would definitely work that way too - at the same time - what does it HURT to have them there all the time?

    Wonder if he realizes that this is kinda already built in to the bed liner already. About 5 links back from the from tie down you can see a cut out. It will fit a 2x4- 2x however tall you want in there snug. There is usually 3 to four of these in the bed so just a piece of wood stays in my truck all the time to do exactly this job

    • @GanderFlight
      @GanderFlight  2 роки тому +1

      Yupp - just not as incremental in the lashing points

    • @100LL81
      @100LL81 Рік тому

      Can you explain this more? I’m not understanding how a 2x4 gets you more tie down points. I’d really like to know how to do this.

    • @lauriewhittle3452
      @lauriewhittle3452 11 місяців тому

      @100LL81 I think he is just saying that if you add say a 2x6 into the slots built into the truck, it can hold your groceries at the back of the truck so they don't slide to the front. It however does not make a "tie down" so your light groceries could still fly out of the bed if you don't have them in a covered tote.
