Here’s Why YOU Should Be Using Color Blind Settings

- Over the past decade, color blind gamers have actively tinkered and experimented with their Windows or in-game settings, in order to ensure that they unlock their true potential on the server.
But in their quest to unearth the best adjustments vis-a-vis visibility, esports competitors have stumbled upon certain tweaks that can help nearly everybody.
So, how exactly did these color blind settings become standardized by pros in games like CS:GO, League of Legends and Valorant? And should we all be using them too?

It is genuinely fucking insane how long it takes Siege to add features like colorblind modes. Like, it took six years to be able to change my crosshair color which I’ve doing forever in other games.
Yeah, they are pretty behind.

@@AsphyxiaUwO You jest but Splitgate was made by a small team who still made a quality game. Siege is a tier one esport developed by Ubisoft; they have no excuse being so behind on their pipeline.

Fun Fact: Game Devs had the option to add these features years ago but the reason why you see them now is due to a US law called CVAA which mandates that any game released in the US after Feb 2020 needs to meet basic Accessibility requirements and so developers were forced to do it. They could've added this much earlier.

The government should stay out of mandating how art is made. Maybe give tax breaks to people who meet certain requirements, but don't force a whole genre of art and creativity to be "accessible" or whatever. Not every game is a corporate cash fest, some of them are actually works of passion with a specific vision and aesthetic in mind.

Edit: For context, most game companies didn't want to build entire Production and QC departments as well as additional liaisons in the Legal team specifically for Accessibility because it is extra overhead costs for them. Nothing malicious per se but there were companies that did it right away and there were ones that did it at the last minute. A major chunk of them were part of the latter.
@@robertstank Correct it was passed in 2010 during the Obama administration with a deadline to implement by 2012. Game companies have been getting extentions on this deadline citing implementation costs for 8 years. Fines were levied for missing the Feb 2020 deadline and so to avoid fines the deadline was honoured by gaming companies. I'm a dev who implements A11y features which is why I know this. A11y is shorthand for Accessibility btw.
As someone who is colourblind, holy shit were the valorant settings a godsend.

my friend is hearing impaired and we play siege alot, i just wish games had the ability to have the sound go up more than usual
I would like to see an audio impaired mode or “visualise audio” which is an option in Fortnite and Valorant (if I remember correctly). It would make sense for Siege since audio can already be unreliable.
@@remuvs yeah but that could be abused in my opinion, if you just could have the sound go super high I don't think that could be abused, still I think the visualize audio is better than nothing, but we all know ubi wont add it for another few years
Get a headphone amp with proper scaling headphones. Those can push the volume much more than on board audio.

I've got the Halo 3 tips that will have you fraggin' like a pro.
I recently had an eye test done to find out why I had vision issues. Apparently it was all down to red-green colour blindness, my vision is otherwise perfect. Ever since I have been using colour blindness settings and they make a world of difference! Everything is much more vivid and my reaction times have improved dramatically.
I never thought to find IRys in videos like this

I’ve been using colourblindness protanopia settings in Apex since it was added. Makes digi threat blue helps so much in the storm

Valorant is the reason I figured out I have an issue with reds, I kept walking into enemy omens smokes, getting yelled at by my friends, asking how the hell I can't tell, only for them to tell me there's supposed to be red inside of the purple smoke to show an enemy omens smokes. Anyways, made it yellow and I can see it now

I'm red green colorblind. When I first started playing Apex I played Bloodhound. I didn't know what his ult did so when I first popped it close to a fight, I couldn't see ANY of the players. It grays everything out but USES RED as the highlight for enemy players. I couldn't see any one.

Which one of the three colorblind settings?
@@I-am-in-excruciating-pain its just any of the yellows really, they have no diferrence between them both. I saw streamers using them and decided to give them a try (both purple and yellow) and in my case yellow just makes everything easier but purple could be your so test both.

Escape from tarkov has a full color tune setting for post afx and it’s great red green color blind btw
Siege used to have a white/silver outline on enemies - they had to remove it because it made the game too easy

overwatch has a good colorblindness system, apex also has colorblind options
I'm very colorblind to the point where some colorblind modes don't work. I use to play R6 a lot and for a long time you couldn't change your scopes color and on most maps I couldn't see the default crosshair on any scope. I just got good at knowing where the middle of my screen was
Was rocking that colorblind mode in 2005 in Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. Not having it in your game now is just shameful.
