That took a lot of guts at his age, for Dave to re-train and qualify as a fast jet pilot. He truly deserved becoming a combat pilot.

Just watching another program "Top Guns" and a young Dave or "Harry" as he is known is on that back seating on a Tornado.

Guy seemed cool as a cucumber, glad the RAF hung onto him and gave him the opportunity. No doubt he's retired by now.

@@thert.hon.thelordnicholson7261 I could be wrong, but I think he still flies with a commercial airline.

What a top bloke Richard seems, took that disappointing result like a champ and is still keen to do his part for Queen & Country. He made it further than 99% do and flying Hercs/C17s would still be incredible job by anyones standards. Wonder what he's up to now?

I know that this was produced 20 years ago, but I just wanted to say that I don't think that it was reasonable to ask ANYTHING of the young man who got chopped.
He put on a brave face. He said that he was satisfied with an RAF career on transports.
But he must have felt like just walking off of the face of the Earth when his intense, all consuming desire to become a Fighter Pilot was finally extinguished.
It was an amazing display of officer professionalism that he maintained his composure.
My point is, documentary or not, the BBC should have left him be with his own thoughts & support systems during this time.
I know that the Fighter Pilot profession is Kill or be Killed, but what sadistic person actually draws that humiliating axe above his head in that class picture?
What purpose does this serve? The STAFF have nothing to celebrate. Nor the IPs who had passed him earlier. We just watched millions of £ of taxpayer money go right down the drain.
I hope that he has had a full, happy, and productive life.
    Cheers.🇨🇦🍺

Somebody needs to explain to the narrator the difference between centripetal force and gravity
