  • I've been using the KickBike as a cross-training tool for running due to an overuse injury. I have been using this kickbike for the last few months and plan on keeping it in my training regiment for doing Spartan Ultra races.
So far I believe it has provided a positive impact to my running.

I discuss the reasoning on why I purchased a kickbike.

Normally the way you would raise the stem is if you pause the video at 00:36 that little circle in the center of T shape usually has a hole for an allen key. You can buy a set for under $10, find the right size. Loosen it up and you can lift the stem a bit higher. On this video it's hard to see if that's an allen key hole or something over it but that usually where it is. You should be able to raise it at least up to 6 inches, maybe more. It could be different but the front pretty much is a bike so it should work.

@@TheDisillusioned1811 No problem, thanks for some kickbike content. I bought a little cheap kick scooter and now I'm really interested in going a notch up with bigger wheels because I love it. So I'm researching all the videos I can find of people speaking on big wheel scooters and kickbikes. So thanks!

Great video series, very helpful. I wonder if doing ultra distance competition is wise when you can't handle the mileage in training. I myself am certainly not a high mileage guy. In fact I tried to do around 50 km/ wk and even that is way too much, not so much injury wise but it wears me out and I don't get better form and speed. I am now at almost no distance miles but much more calisthenics, mobility, running drills, jumping, sprinting and that kind of stuff and I now run better than ever. I like to do races of no more than 10k, 5 is better.
I am baffled by guys who can do 200+k/ wk. I am inspired by Nicholas Filippazzo (channel: El Coyote Loco) who does this and more with ease AND did 14 min 5k AND doing it on minimalist footwear. The guy is an enigma.

Hey thanks for watching and the feedback. I start to really feel it at about 60+ miles (100K) a week. I've really focussed on a more polarity of training, such as hill repeats one day and next day of running is nothing but flats, my long runs aren't so much "runs" but long hikes/runs not focussing on pace just moving efficiently and getting vert. My cadence and ground contact has improved dramatically (better form) since I posted these videos . I will be 49 years next month and I have found hill repeats to be a big plus to keeping me strong and healthy. Although one must have the grit to recover. I am signed up for a 100 mile race in the Oregon Cascade Mountains this September. I have a lot of training to do and be healthy. I am about ready to start using the kick bike with a lead with my new dog. I also started backcountry XC skiing and I think it has really helped my balance and leg strength, plus gives me a good break from running once a week or so. I've never heard of El Coyote, I will check him out.

@@TheDisillusioned1811 Great story. Diversifying in training is key. I just turned 50 myself and even though I have not been running for well over 25 years because of a persistent patellar tendinitis (solved with barefoot running) I am now in the best running form of my life and very competitive, in the upper few percent of my age group. I was recently plagued by lower back pain which turn out to find its root cause in severely shortened hamstrings. I do a regular stretching routine now and is actually unlocks even a next level in running, I have never felt so free and mobile. If only I would have known everything I know now when I was 16, I could have had a career! Then again, key is enjoying what you do and stay healthy no matter what age. I love still finding new techniques, new paradigms and improving in many little things.
I live near one of the few hilly areas in Holland but it is just a bit too far to go there for regular training. There's a trail run there a few times a year which is pretty cool and although I'm doing pretty well it's harder I guess when one is not used to hills.

Just saw your 3 vids on the kickbike. Thanks for posting your feedback.
Regrding the handlebar stem riser - it looks like standard MTB parts so you could take the kickbike to your local cycle/MTB shop and ask for their reccomendation for either a stem-extender and or a stem riser with a steeper angle.
The staff or cycle mechanic would be able to advise you on the best durable and safe option.
    Cheers.
