- In this video I show you how to DIY your own stage 3 fuel pump upgrade kit on your N54 powered BMW. I'm doing the upgrade on my 2008 E90 335i.
I pieced this kit together myself. You should be able to do the same for around $350 to $400 USD.
I'm installing this upgrade so I can run full E85 and get as much power as possible out of my upgraded turbos.
It'll take you a few hours total if you're following along.
Here is the link to my stage 2 fuel pump upgrade video:

Another wicked DIY, thanks for doing them dude!!
Great DIY’s man! Any thoughts on the Walbro hellcat 525LPH from dynamic autowerx?
Could you repost the last two eBay links? Apparently the listing expires and is no longer available. Thanks.
Could you update your links on the relay harness etc? Thanks!
Hey man been watching you're videos for a long time, just had a quick question what type of bolts did you use for the wires through top hat zinc coated stainless???
Quick question, what did you use to make the two addition terminals in the fuel hat for the second pump? Looks like you have a kit of screws but don’t see the link to something similar in the description.
I’m on stage 2 dual walbro, and I see most videos when they go stage 3 only putting one bucket in. And I know there’s two fuel tanks. Would I have to put 2, stage 3 buckets on my car or do I put one where it sends to the hpfp
I just purchased the " ready to go kit" I was curious what all I'll also need with it?
I love your videos but I find it crazy that every fuel pump installation video I find, people do it on a full tank of gas. That seems so counter intuitive to me.
What's the part # to the relay I looked on the link you posted but it's not showing the part anymore
How has it held up? I'm wanting to do this. Step by step.
perfect video I'm doing mine after watching your video//you teach me on how to thank you
Hey my friend! I'll be installing methanol and run unblended meth and run x3 helix and stage 3 lpfp. We will be stacking them both at 100% . I also have these turbos stage 2+ 775rs.it will be more safe since it would be a lot of fuel and if meth stops flowing for some reason
if you cut the bucket or go buckeless you will run into fueling issues when the tank is low. I do hope some1 makes a solution where you can have 2 pumps inside the bucket while the factory loops keeps it full of fuel all the time.
Yeah I've been running it this way with the one pump in the bucket for over a year. You'd have to be on fumes and try going wot for it to be an issue. I just always fill up at 1/8 of a tank as you should anyway to keep your fuel pump from getting too hot.
Precision Raceworks makes a dual bucket setup. So does fuel it
I’ve also ran a similar setup for the last 7 months . With the whole bottom of the bucket cut off and never had any issues .
I know I'm late into the party but Hydramat is the answer. Ran Hydramat for 3 years now and ran very low sometimes, no issues ever. A bit pricey but well worth it
If you had no idea what this guy is doing you would think he’s building a bomb. Nice work man truly this channel is amazing!
Can you please send me the parts 4,5 and 6? Cause the links are dead
I don't know if you still see comment and questions on here but I'll try. I followed you 2 stage to make mine BTW. Works great! Thank you! So I have 17T 's and all bolt ons including 7,5 cooler 2 inch inlets, outlet and Walboro 450lph lpfp. etc. 3.5 Tmap and anything I can't recall now but you know what I'm saying LOL. So my tuner just finished doing the last E40 custom map for me and he says I'm out of fuel or I've reached max fueling. I guess using a 535lph lpfp wouldn't do the job at this point would it?? LOL. So is the best option this one you're doing in this video?? Or maybe I'm missing something?? Thank you again for the hard work you've done all these years!!
You need a dual pump set up to optimize the use of bigger turbos. More boost=more feel needed. You can get away with a single pump at mid 500ish hp but after that you need to run a dual pump set up to ensure you get enough fuel always
Also could you please please please update the list?
Can you update the link som are not found thanks !
How much was the total for everything purchased in this diy
Close to $400
Please can I have lint for relay kit
Any update on links?
Could you update the links to all the stuff needed for install?
+1. The last three ebay links dead-end. Great video, nonetheless!
You have all this equipment and no heat gun? They’re like 10 bucks at harbor freight 👍🏼 I’ll get you one for Xmas if you dont have one by then lol
13:05 by the way I have drank drinks strong than e60 I’m sure it’s not the end of the world if one were to say go gloveless in a tank of ethanol 🤷🏻♂️
14:52 have you found any issue with omitting the use of (purple maybe blue) thread locker or nylock nuts with those terminals?
Will this be over doing it for a stock turbo fbo n54? Also wanted to do port injection. I’ll of course upgrade turbos when it’s time
Hi , iv seen u drilling a hole for the electrical connections, but u have not put on any washers, does the fuel not leak out from the nut wen filling up your tank, please let me know im currently struggling
Halp!! I bought a walbro high pressure 450lph. Should i have bought a low pressure fuel pump?
Mods: jb4, pods, Inlets, charge pipe, large FMIC, and down pipes.
Quick question, Since i dont have Helix overdrive can i still run 2 walbro 450? and do E50?
What fuel line are you using? I have been searching for hours for a fuel line that can be submersed and handle E85 and have found absolutely nothing.
I did this and keep getting 2A17 DMTL code even after changeing DMTL pump. Any reason why
Anybody have a problem where the bottom of the gas tank began leaking after this DIY? I’m currently experiencing that 😅
Do you have another link for the Hobbs switch and all the wiring
My spool kit looks so different... I am finally ready to hook it up and it looks nothing like what you have...
Question just bought a stage 3 bucketless - you ran a wire from the hobbs switch all the way to the back?
So I'm trying to build my stage 3 or 4 pump , my questions are, do I need to open the bucket ? What are the best option to overkill the fuel system dual 450 or 535 with 450 ? Wich is the best set up right now on the market
Nice! Hope to see it clears up that weird misfire. Didnt see anything in the log that would cause a misfire tho.
Yeah I'm thinking it's false knock. I want to isolate and monitor the knock sensors. Yeah log seems fine, I did notice some heavy timing pulls in cyl 5, also heard that's the noisiest cylinder.
Yep, that was the only thing which you've been trying to get rid of haha. I've heard that alot when I've looked at forums etc. I was thinking about running custom tune on mine but I'm just thinking about using the JB4 with a BEF when I get the bluetooth module. I cant rev past 6500 rpm I get a cam gap loss code. Always something haha. So I just went in and set my rev limit to 6500 on xhp.
What was the purpose of using a switched 12v? I considered it but decided it wasn't worth the added wiring since there is really no scenario the hobbs switch would activate with the car off.
What gauge wire is going from hobs switch to rely and is it 1 or 2 wires
What tune do you have?
I'm on a custom tune from Wedge Tuning.
But I do think it is a bad tune tbh and those AIT on that one log were too flat possibly wrong scaling for the N20 map sensor you have
So do you have to buy a hobbs switch? I don’t see a link for that?
Hello. Do you have to upgrade the high pressure fuel pump too? Thanks
Not false knock bud I also seen those timing corrections in that lot but you pulled it up
Can i run 100% e85 on stock turbos but fbo?
I wonder if a 535 walboro could be used if needed be..
What relay? The link is not working. Thanks
WHY OH WHY WOULDN'T YOU GO BUCKETLESS????????
Is this a bucketed or bucktless set up?
Did you have to replace hpfp or injectors???
Very nice. Curious when the first E85 pump will appear in The Netherlands ;-).
There is one in Pesse (Shell Greenplanet) for 2 euros per liter. Runs great on my Flexfuel N54 335i.
@@thelightning87 Wow, I had no idea. Actually, Tamoil has about 20 in our country!
@@MrNicoe36cabrio That is old information unfortunately :( No more E85 from Tamoil. Back in/around 2012 there used to be 150 E85 pumps! Now there is only 1 left who charges way too much. Better buy it from the Action or from Germany in big quantities.
@@thelightning87 Exactly what I do, buy 10 liter cans from Germany and mix myself, works perfect! There is talk that E85 will be introduced again in whole Europe...
@@JerainJezza Yeah i have a 1000liter IBC with E100 :) E85 is already available in France for about 65cents per liter. My ethanol sensor reported about E70. Belgium is also starting with E85 but without any governement benefits so the price will probably be the same or probably even higher.
Noob question, but why did you need upgraded fuel pumps to run e85? Is the fuel a different viscosity or something?
It's less energy dense so you need more of it, its less prone to knock so you can make more power with it but need to supply a greater volume of it.
Hey just curious why you decided to create your kit instead of purchasing a full kit yourself?
Mostly for content, I was offered a kit for free but didn't want to wait for it. These stage three kits used to cost 600 to 800. Now that they're 500 you could go either way really
I hear E85 can damage high pressure fuel pumps (GDI). What is true? Can it?
its probably a good idea to add in some lubrication/e85 additive (castor oil is another common additive), but otherwise no it's fine
RIP Juice WRLD
buddy thats what happen when these clout chasing rappers do molly and drink lean like it some juice or water
david smith it is what it is, still RIP JUICE WRLD
I wish I lived in Texas and could do this. Ontario Canada has no E85 pumps anywhere
I feel that bro. Best we can do is that 94 from petro on jb4 or an mhd 93 tune :(
From Qc, had the same issue here. Just started ordering 57L barrels and mix it at home
yeah man, we used that have that one in Guelph but it’s closed. I just decided to go with meth injection to get similar benefits.
Yeah meth injection is a good alternative. Guelph was my hometown did my first year of high school at GCVI.
Vehicular DIY that’s wild, I was thinking you were from Ontario because of your old e30. My great aunt actually lives on raglan st, 2 minutes away from gcvi!
The second to last link is not working. Can you update it or clarify what it was?
Check now I just updated it.
When your not running e85 and just regular pump how’s your fuel economy
Because it can't handle it.
I bought the parts for stag 2 following your video. I didn't install the parts yet because Im still working on my car. Now Im going to buy the parts for stage 3 for video. Which video should I follow? the first video and then this one or I start with this video ? Im asking about the steps if I have all the parts for stage 2 and 3. Thank you for the good work.
Did you do it? Did it work? How has it held up?
Killing it with the DIY
is your car running well on full e85 without port injection?
Yes but I have a HPFP overdrive kit.
Dude what is the song in your outro?
How's the e85 holding up?
Did the stage 2 pump last month with the WB 450’. That pump opening in the tank is a huge PITA.
Yeah it's not fun, takes longer than you'd think.
So this stage 3 pump is able to feed enough fuel for full e85 without a hpfp overdrive or port injection? or was this video released after your hpfp overdrive install?
No you'd still want an overdrive or PI solution to run full E85. This was released after.
@@VehicularDIY I managed to answer my question 0.5s after typing that comment. Thank you though!
I think the link to wiring harness is broken can you repost?
Thanks for pointing that out, check now.
Man I love your videos. I want to see that thing do a pull once you figure out that misfire.
Great video and thanks for the great info. On a side note what on earth is going on with your rims? They look heavily cracked?
Thanks, yeah it's just the paint shrinking. They were refinished a few years back. I need to look into replacing them.
I know in general that your fuel mileage suffers as boost increases, but, out of curiousity, as you have been increasing boost, what are you seeing so far with actual mpg numbers? PSI vs mileage?
Nobody cares about gas mileage on a race car.
Your videos are so top notch. Thank you!
hey what do you think about water/meth injection, would love to see you install one of those kits on the car and see what gains you can get
I haven't really thought about it given e85 is readily available, I've heard you can make more power on it and is the way to go if you can't find e85.
I'll be installing bms methanol and we will also be running helix x3 and stage 3 lpfp we will be stacking full e85 and 100 % methanol. Check my channel. I have these turbos too after watching his videos lol. This guy is the best youtube n54 ever
The injectors can hold full e ?
Yeah they can hopefully lol
Yes they can and they do. The problem with e85 isn't and never was the injectors. It's the fuel delivery before the injectors.
Is their a dyi on how to do this anywhere?
bro you dumb? what do you think he is doing in the video? it cant get more simpler than this
It dont tell you everything, like other diy I've seen.
@@chrisnas1483 hey literally explained everything for that specific install, idk what else you looking for, be more specific what you wanna know and maybe if you make sense he can help answer your question. Idk where people like you come from ffs what a waste of space on earth you are just talking negative about his video for no reason
Hey, I love your videos very detailed and informative.
I have a small issue with my 335i,
It squeaks only during cold start.
Anyone knows what the issue is ?
Your Help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks, have you changed your serpentine belt recently?
If it’s a squeak that sounds like a constant rotational squeak that goes away after a minute look at replacing the belt and pulleys
Vehicular DIY no I just got the car recently only 2 weeks back . If it’s the belt issue, what would you recommend, to buy oem belt or aftermarket?
If aftermarket can you suggest a brand that you use?
Matt Crosby it goes away after the engine is warm. Thanks 😊
Jayvenkatraj I can send you a link to the part on FCP euro. Has a lifetime warranty. You have a E90 335i or is it a 328i?
Wondering if you go stage 3 fuel pump what happens to normal mpg when cruising around town
If you run more e85 your mpg goes way down. It's cheaper so it offsets but you visit the pump more often. One trade off it runs smoother in day to day driving.
Is there a reason you chose to put your switch in the CP instead of keeping it all in the trunk and using the vacuum line from the flapper?
To avoid issues and for a more secure connection mostly.
Man your videos are great. I'm in Houston also, I'd love to actually check out car in person. I drive a n54 535i myself. Been tossing up getting a 335i coupe or a M3
@@VroomNPew so true. 335is handle more power than the m3. Stock power is a different story but 335 all day. M3 for the purists
Careful. HPFP will still be deficient at upper RPM as injectors are pressure limited.
His HPFP is upgraded.
Yeah I got a 4x overdrive kit that is way overkill for my power level but will take full e85 no sweat.
Usually its more the other way around. At low RPM (below 4k) not enough pressure can be built. At higher RPM's the pressure rises.
You can run E85 but unless your engine internals get built, your damaging the engine now and not the fuel system.
E85 won't hurt the internals...
God your videos are so good and inspirational!
