The last survivor of the Christmas Truce lived a few miles from me, Alfred Anderson. He was also the oldest person in Scotland when he died. Sabaton mention him in the animated story of this. I play the pipes next to his memorial on Remembrance Sunday every year.

The soldiers of the Christmas truce found out, that they actually had more in common with the poor bastard in the other trench, than with their own generals! In the Christmas of 1915, the generals couldn't have that! So there was no repeat of the 1914 Christmas truce on this large scale, as the artillery kept firing ... Some DID come out of their trenches, but was mostly instantly killed by the enemy soldiers. No moment of peace in a war that'll never end ... Until 11 o'clock, 11th of November, 1918 ... War to end all wars, indeed ...

Hi guys! You're right...Sabaton is a band as no other! The care they take in making each song is superb and for me this song stands way above all of them. Soo moving! And Floor's vocals in the end completes it. The additional music at the end is made by Antti Martikainen, a independent Finnish composer who makes epic music which ranges from orchestral folk, ethnic, metal and battle influences. I have no idea how many times I have watched that video, it has me in tears every time, such a powerful message, and a fantastic video, a lot of the soldiers on both sides could not fight after the truce and were replaced within 3 days, a lot on both sides were courtmarshalled, Floors vocals at the end really drive the message home as well, love it

The Christmas Truce of 1914 lasted for different amounts of time in different parts of the Western Front, with some places observing a lull in fighting until the New Year: Some places: The truce lasted a couple of hours Some areas: The truce lasted until Boxing Day Isolated pockets: The truce lasted until the New Year The truce was not universally observed and was not sanctioned by commanders on either sides. It was an informal event that emerged spontaneously in multiple locations. The truce involved soldiers exchanging greetings, carol singing, and leaving their trenches to meet their opponents in no man's land. There were even reports of German and British troops playing football amidst the shell craters. Also in this instance the men did not go back to fighting. They all got repremanded for their mixing with the enemy and some were transfered out. Some ranrather than killing anymore,some were shot immediately for refusing to resume the battle. RIP to those who were there,and to all who died during WWI. God bless them for they did not want to be there. *Where the truce happened there is a wooden cross standing to commemorate that this event happened.
