I can recommend a book for you to read. It is called "A Higher Call" and the entire book is all about Charlie Brown and Franz Sigler before, during, and after the war. Franz lost the taste for blood while he was in North Africa. After his brother died in 1940, Franz became disheartened and he changed immensely. He would often get questioned as to why he never reported any victories (they were not allowed to call them kills), he had a few here and there but never bothered to tell anyone. Stigler was more concerned with keeping newly assigned pilots alive rather than being in the limelight. He was a true gentleman and a hero

@@TheThamesmen Seems like a good idea since Christmas will be over for us who celebrate it on the proper day (24th) and we'll have plenty of time to watch it directly when you upload. ;)
I love it how Sabaton tells these stories from all sides of the wars. Good music with some history to learn mixed in. There are so many good songs (I'm partial to those pertaining to Finland: White Death, Soldier Of Three Armies and Talvisota) from many perspectives. If you'd like, there's another animated tear jerker called Night Witches. Great song about a russian all female bomber squad.

By far, my favorite Sabaton song, and the one I can most relate to. I live near Bremen (the place they bombed) and Oldenburg (where they almost crashed), and one of my Opas (Grandpa) was a AA-gunner at the Atlantikwall, in the Netherlands. I wonder if he saw a BF-109 escorting a B-17? Also, my grandma and aunts had to run to the air-raid shelter because of this air raid. Great reaction.
Thank you for sharing your history to. It is amazing to think what our grandparents went through. Song is great and the videos even better. Thank you for being
Not only did Franz Stigler escort an enemy plane, he also flew close to it so ground weapons couldn't fire, for fear of hitting him, too. What a guy!! Franz tried to get them to land in Germany and surrender, but Charlie refused. Then he tried to get them to land in a neutral country. When Charlie refused again, he just decided to stay and escort them across the water. Once he was sure that they were gonna be okay, he turned and went back. Also please note that Charlie was a rookie who also lied about his age. He claimed he was 25, but was only 21.
Morning Thamesmen. So glad you reacted to this- such an amazing story. The fact it was kept secret for 40+ years shows how sensitive an issue it was having enemies show mercy. US 8th Army Air Force bomber crews usually flew 25 missions over Europe (daylight raids normally) but would often fly 30 as this would usually mean they didn't have to return for a second tour. The actor James Stewart flew 20 missions himself- he actually was being used for training films etc (he was already a pilot before he joined up) but asked to be sent to an operational squadron and so was posted to England on B-17s. Glad you are enjoying your Sabaton journey- could I recommend that, due to the season, your next tune from them is the recently released 'Christmas Truce'? An amazing video to accompany an incredible story of humanity in amongst the carnage (and listen all the way through the credits too). Thanks again for such an excellent channel and take care both.

Sabaton isn't for me. Don't ask me why, it just isn't. I hear nothing new and what I do hear has been done better by other bands. But again I thoroughly enjoyed your banter and commenting 👍👍
No worries...... No worries at all. There's loads of bands George likes that no one else likes :)
