Honestly, heaven's lost property is hilarious. Its not really fair to compare it to some of the other ecchi of the time, it had an actual story. Especially if you've read the manga.
This is actually one of the least watchable ecchi anime of the era tbh, and it's entirely Tomoki's fault. Additionally, literally all of them had a story, but, as with this show, they were terribly written stories.
"When you haven't done anything with a girl and you're at the point where a touch on the shoulder makes your blood pressure spike" tfw you're still at that point
Heaven's Lost Property was actually recommended to me by a normal, pretty girl (not a social outcast) in Highschool. She thought it was actually good. I ended up reading all of it for all the wrong reasons, but I remember the serious parts hitting home. 'Waking up crying from a dream you don't remember' felt melancholic. And when he fools around as a voodoo doll all the time, when he switches back into a human being it immediately changes the tone. The blonde male friend was cool, too.
Not exactly sure on your standing of the Main character of this series (Tomoki) but, I’m glad that there are people like you out there that enjoy his serious moments. I feel like his serious moments get undermined and ignored, and people just look at the times he was a pervert.
@@frizzlmizzl9058 The author did this with his latest anime plunderer lmao. But it’s actually animated, all fun and games then what do you know everyone is dying and good animation too.
@@XBlackMoonRisingX015 iirc it's not that much better BUT, I think it's just because so many anime from the mid-2000s got the damn "We made this anime just to advertise the source material, and you totally need to check it out because it's better/we just left you hanging with this goddamn cliffhanger" syndrome.
This was my favorite anime back in 2011 in fact it was the first anime I ever watched, but dude this anime literally shaped my aesthetic for art and stories, not because of the whole ecchi bad jokes aspect but for the whole robot girl thing and the mystery that was imposed by the synapse i honestly really liked the concept of the anime especially when it got dark and that all really stuck with me until now (but yes I did want Ikaros to be real, even stayed up some nights thinking about it)
As someone who got into anime bc of this one, who's online Persona was Tomoki for many years now and who still loves this anime to this day.. I approve of this video
This anime was the best anime i ever seen because it hits differently than the others. It connected to me in such an emotional level that has never been seen before. I don't know what the comment section saying... maybe they just want an action pact anime with blood and swords every episode, this was about the angeloids learning that they aren't playthings, slaves, but are people like you and me. Ikaros learning to be human, Nymph learning how to let go of her past life as a slave and become free is so satisfying and heartwarming to watch the development happen.
Honestly the reason I kept watching heavens lost properly for so long was because I was actually interested in the story. I never finished it because of the OTHER plot it was so interested in showing, but the story going on in the background is so damn interesting to me. Maybe one day ill read the manga if its not as bad as the anime with echi shit. Also, I really like tomoki's va lmao
I read Chibi-Vampire in middle school. All the time. And it's pretty much to most girly manga ever. It's about a girl vampire who, instead of sucking blood like normal vampires, she produces too much blood for her body to hold. So she has to bite victims and give them her blood (which automatically matches anyone's blood type) and it makes them feel amazing the next day. I got it from my cousin and I had no money so it's the only manga I had.
The chibi vampire manga is pretty good. I still reread the whole thing every now and then. Yuna kagesaki also made the Hekikai no Aion manga( starts out rough but improves later on) and the witches house the diary of ellen( best to play the witchs house game first. It contains spoiler backstory of a character that totally spoils the games ending.) Unfortunately Aion never got fully released in English so it's best to stick with scans. As far as I know the witches house manga is her most recently released in English. It's a very bloody supernatural horror manga and pretty fun. I'm honestly surprised she doesn't write horror much. I love how her art is instantly recognizable. It's probably the way she draws eyes.
@@yunogasai1338 that’s awesome I’ll definitely check it out! I’m surprised i enjoyed it as much as i did cuz I’m not into that kind of manga, but the characters were so like-able I couldn’t put it down. And it’s definitely the eyes. Yuna has a very unique style to her art that’s instantly recognizable.
@@asneakylawngnome5792 I've been hoping more of her work would get an english release. Not even her rendition of higurashi's kokoroiyashi hen ( or heart healing arc) manga got one, even though most of the series has been released in English* just missing several spin off stories). It's an arc that rakes place near the end of the series so I thought for sure we'd get it. Sadly no luck.
This was the very first anime to which I sat down to and seriously watched and invested myself into, from then onwards, I was weeb. Before this, I’d just watch anime from the tv over my sister’s shoulder, not really paying much attention to it. So I gotta thank Heaven’s Lost Property since I probably wouldn’t be who I am today without it. Can’t believe I just said that but it’s true.
The intro of this vid described every anime I watched for the exact reason I watched them in middle school. At least I know I’m not alone in that anymore 🥲
A week ago I decided to binge read the manga after years of wanting to know what happened next. I was happy to remember the characters and the world and learn what became of them after the anime and movie (I didn't know there was a second movie until after I began reading). The wish-granting thing being nerfed in-universe was explained (can't remember if it was explained in the anime) after Tomoki wakes up. Since Tomoki wished for it to all be a dream, Ikaros made not only the wishes from the card all a dream, but also the omni-potent card. That's how they lost the omni-potent wishes. Ikaros still had older model cards that have limited abilities, and that's why Tomoki and the others can't just wish for anything. I enjoyed the read, but I understand it's far from a masterpiece. The series is definitely "harem trope-heavy" 80% of the time. It also just has some weird plot points that's definitely just because the author wills it. The old model cards are literally just plot devices for shenanigans though not the actual plot except the Dive Game. One major theme of the series is to make your own decisions, so Tomoki refuses to accept Nymph as his servant, but for some reason he keeps Ikaros? He almost accepts Nymph to help give her wings, but in that moment she sprouts new ones (for reasons later explained in the manga or maybe Movie 2) so Tomoki just says never mind. Still, I had fun reading it, but maybe that's just me because I enjoy stupid shit. When Tomoki isn't performing any criminally perverted actions or when the rest of the cast isn't "comically" assaulting Tomoki, the series is enjoyable. Unfortunately that just means scraping out at least 80% of the series. The little moments where Tomoki seriously questions the Angeloids and Angels actions and motives are nice. I really enjoyed Eishirou, Nymph, and Chaos's character arcs; Astraea's was fine too. I wish Hiyori had more focus outside plot relevancy, but I guess her aggressiveness in love would force the plot against the author's expectations. Ikaros's arc was to be expected. Sohara nearly doesn't have an arc despite becoming what could've been an important character at the end.
these are my thoughts. if they just threw out the, what is basically filler out the window it could've actually been enjoyable and have an interesting world.
Manga only here, Heaven's lost property was one of the first manga i've ever read. I don't know how the anime handled it but the manga did at least have some couple of intriguing mysteries in it. Most of the time at the end of the typical "wacky ecchi chapter" is some rather dark story developments, the glasses-wearing guy was my favorite as he's the only one who actually investigate shits and get the plot moving. Another thing i like is Ikaros's character. Even though she falls into the emotionless submissive anime girl stereotype, she's hardly ever been put in extreme sexual situations like the other girls, with Tomoki (really hope i got his name right) going out of his way to never really harass her or take advantage of her submissiveness toward him. I've read Dears and Chobits, mangas with similar emotionless/ naive Main Female Character like Ikaros, and they were pretty much just cute "waifu" whose personality didn't matter at all. At the end of their mangas, the main female get a "reset", basically forgo all of their character development and turning them into innocent blank slate once again, it feel like the author is stuck between sexualizing them and treating them like children that need constant coddling (honestly i don't even dislike these mangas, but the fact that the main females are just pretty but empty shells whose only purpose is to follow the MC around bugs me a lot) In contrast, Ikaros does get a chance to develop as a character, she does grows to care about things outside of Tomoki, she does learn to fight not because of orders but to protects her loved ones.Tomoki actively encouraged Ikaros to feel and think for herself, i should note that one of the first time Tomoki became genuinely attracted to Ikaros was when he saw her smile. Sorry for the rambling btw, i've reread Heaven's lost property recently and didn't have any place to put my thoughts so i wrote most of them here. All in all, i wouldn't say the manga was a masterpiece or anything, the ecchi slice-of-life side of the story can either be dull or extremly infuriaring for those who are not into those sort thing. Tomoki isn't anything new, being a harem protagonist with girls flocking all over him eventhough the most he ever do is treating them with the utmost basic of human decency. The manga was average to mediocre at best, even so, it still did have a lot of great things about it that's sadly overlooked nowadays.
At one point, as the actual plot of the series began picking up with Nymph and (let me google his name...) Sugata investigating some mysterious shit.... it hit me: why isn't this guy the main character? Sugata here is actually being proactive and advancing the plot. Tomoki is off committing assault and other perverted shit like he always does. So why isn't Sugata the main character with Tomoki doing pathetic goofy hijinks off in the background? And that's when I finally realized how the plot is largely irrelevant and it's all just an excuse for titties and panty shots and sexual assault and violent assault. So it doesn't matter that Tomoki spends all his time getting beaten up, committing assault, creeping girls out, and otherwise doing perverted hijinks... as that's the show. The plot just doesn't matter. So I guess it's mindless popcorn trash you can watch with your brain box firmly switched off, but it wasn't for me. For one, actual tiddies are always a single google search away. So why not just cut out the middle man of terrible plot and skip to the actual "content" being offered here? I just don't have time for ecchi animes unless there is enough story, intriguing characters, or well written comedy to go with the padding (Also I thought Nymph should have paired up with Sugata as they were the only competent, non-insane, characters in the show... well, the least insane.)
I recognize most of this is satire and actually calls out the flaws of heaven’s lost property. But are we forgetting about the plot, yes there was a plot and most of the episodes were filler with little to almost no plot relevance but with a twist actually presented character arcs that set up the the two movies. Heaven’s lost property: the clockwork Angeloid, which takes place alongside season 1, and Heaven’s lost property: Finale. Surprising that I remember all this considering I haven’t watched this show in years.
This was the first "real" anime series (besides studio ghibli and evangelion movies that where broadcasted in free tv) that I have watched years ago. I regret nothing. The manga really was better though.
I really liked berserk but I got immediately put off when the "jail" arc started. I hate it when the objective is to get someone out of jail. So cliche and so boring. I feel bad for not finishing the anime but cliche books and anime really gave me a trauma with jail themes.
I’m not gonna lie. I read the manga and legit cried when the dude with glasses died. One of the only ones that made me cry. I remember the basic premise of Sekirei but I’ve no clue what the end is. Goddamn that VPN ad hit me like an isekai truck.
I rewatched Heaven's Lost Property and I completely agree😂 Tomoki's voice in the English dub was weird at first, but for some reason, I was oddly amused. This anime has it's own charm, with how it would "tease" the ecchi aspect instead of going all in like *cough* Redo of Healer 😂 I also love how there's a different ending soundtrack for each episode. They were all catchy and creative
I'm so happy you made a video on Heavens lost property idc if it isn't good or meaningful it's my favorite ecchi and it never gets talked about. I always end up smiling, laughing, or just enjoying myself in general when I watch it and at the end of the day isn't that what it's all about

First off, mad props to your creative process. I've been watching your videos for a little under a year now and you're my favorite anime-related UA-camr. Obviously it's your channel, your call, but I would like to see more videos about anime and trends that you do like versus the ones you don't. I think you're funnier and more interesting when you're talking about what's great in a show. I get hyped when a new video comes out from you, but five of your last nine videos are about things that you dislike rather than you like. What I've gotten most out of your content is finding gems that I've missed, like Land of the Lustrous and Made in Abyss. I don't get any gems about what to watch next when you talk about something that you've come to realize is shit. I'll keep watching them all the way through to help with watch-time because I'd like to see this channel grow and get more of the recognition it deserves. All that said, I caught that you said this would be the final video like this in a while, so if you're already going in that direction then disregard the comment! Thanks for helping me find some of my favorite shows so far, and keep up the great work!

Man, I remember binging this manga a few years ago in one go. Enjoyed it despite all the weird shenanigans, guess being new to the whole anime medium helps. When I heard there was an anime adaptation, stuck my head a bit to check it up, looked shit, goes back to reading. It ended pretty well I think, twisting Eishirou's backstory is a nice way to go and end the series.

This story would’ve been better if the school president was in charge. That aside, I read the manga and found it to be dumb fun. Also fun fact: Judas, the gun seller for the festivals, is actually a character from Judas, a different manga by the creator that got canceled. It was about Judas Iscariot, haunting a trap named Eve so he can physical throw hands with the other disciples who want to bring on the second coming cause Judas fucked up the first one. Yeah… I can’t see why it didn’t keep going.
the girl abusing the guy trope in anime stems from an old form of comedy both popular in the east and west in which a lover or wife would be angry or distraught with her husband or boyfriend and use violence on him usually in live action shows it's either harmless smacks with a roll of paper, slightly more comedic violence with a frying pan, or in some cases getting the shotgun and threatening to pop'em in the butt with bird shot, or something, this form of humor stems from the "if he or she's hitting you or teasing you, they must like you" concept, in which abuse from someone was their disgruntled way of showing affection, usually most common in super young children, but used in anime and movies for comedic effect then RAMPED UP TO ELEVEN by anime, usually either done because the girl is jealous, the guy is being a creep, the girl mistakes the guy for a bad dude, or because she gets nervous, doesn't know how to process that feeling and lashes out because she can't control herself, that last one is a real thing, some girls who like dude's usually in school days not adult times, will lash out at them or pick at them because their still not mature and don't know how to process their feelings, or they themselves are victims of abuse, but yeah the long and short, it's been a comedic trope for a long time, it's just a form of comedy that became insanely popular based on an over exaggerated real life thing that almost never went as far as it goes in anime, like girl's love genre, which spawned from the fact that young Japanese girls form almost romantic relationships with one another, seen as more sisterly by outside viewers, which is encouraged when their young, but discouraged when they reach about sixteen or so, because their urged by society or parents to find boys more attractive, this has and can happen in other cultures, and it does sometimes lead to the girls finding out that they have romantic interest in the same gender, nothing wrong with that btw I'm just pointing it out, it spawned a whole slew of "i think i love my best friend" manga and anime, their is a similar thing with a different type of relationship, which spawned a whole other genre of adult animation, it rhymes with win vest, my point is, a lot of this stuff just stems from real life events and thing that happen in real cultures, the thing is anime tends to over exaggerate it, that's why it happens and is so popular, it's really why a lot of generic anime tropes are popular, it's why kirito looks like an average dude, cuz it's a power fantasy and most Japanese kids have short or mid length black hair and are skinny, but I'm rambling now so imma stop good vid man

I absolutely loved this show and still really like it, but if you condensed all the plot, you could watch it in about an hour an a half. Most of the episodes are predictable and stupid, but I still love it.
"Pass around the same 4 voice actors like a soggy backwood" I love this saying more than I should. Also god was it so damn true. 2005 - 2012 or so. It was baaaad. That one female that plays one of the main characters, example being Full Metal Panic. That one grown man that's always playing teenahe children because he has a high pitched voiced...and the moment I unpause at 1:32 the mfer comes up. Steven Blum. And then that one soft spoken female who always plays a young teen and is typically a supporting character. Holy fuck; I just remembered that I watched this. The flying panties clip brought it back. Man, this show was mad forgettable. The ONLY thing that stuck with me was them singing about is nipples. Didn't even remember the title.

Ikaros learning to be human, Nymph learning how to let go of her past life as a slave and become free is so satisfying and heartwarming to watch the development happen.
Honestly the reason I kept watching heavens lost properly for so long was because I was actually interested in the story. Thank u buddy
I haven't been around that long but he has been pretty on point with everything I have seen. Would love to see his MAL list and scores.
God I remember watching and reading chibi vampire. An old classic for sure and I loved the characters and story so much.
This was the very first anime to which I sat down to and seriously watched and invested myself into, from then onwards, I was weeb. @@ScamboliReviews yall ever see testament of sister new devil
At the end of their mangas, the main female get a "reset", basically forgo all of their character development and turning them into innocent blank slate once again, it feel like the author is stuck between sexualizing them and treating them like children that need constant coddling (honestly i don't even dislike these mangas, but the fact that the main females are just pretty but empty shells whose only purpose is to follow the MC around bugs me a lot)
In contrast, Ikaros does get a chance to develop as a character, she does grows to care about things outside of Tomoki, she does learn to fight not because of orders but to protects her loved ones.Tomoki actively encouraged Ikaros to feel and think for herself, i should note that one of the first time Tomoki became genuinely attracted to Ikaros was when he saw her smile.
I just don't have time for ecchi animes unless there is enough story, intriguing characters, or well written comedy to go with the padding
(Also I thought Nymph should have paired up with Sugata as they were the only competent, non-insane, characters in the show... well, the least insane.)
I'd love to have this "was wild" thing become a series
I recognize most of this is satire and actually calls out the flaws of heaven’s lost property. But are we forgetting about the plot, yes there was a plot and most of the episodes were filler with little to almost no plot relevance but with a twist actually presented character arcs that set up the the two movies. Heaven’s lost property: the clockwork Angeloid, which takes place alongside season 1, and Heaven’s lost property: Finale.
Surprising that I remember all this considering I haven’t watched this show in years.

This story would’ve been better if the school president was in charge. That aside, I read the manga and found it to be dumb fun.
