    Hello Maria, as always, your videos stimulate me to live and implement something new into my beginner technique. I try to remember your teachings, but in the field it is completely different.
    Nature lives slow and fast. When we see a bird, we don't have time to think about it, we take photos and then see what happens. That's why now I understand to leave the house as often as possible to take photos.
    Thanks to you Mario, I do it and I have a lot of joy from getting better and better photos. Regards, Adam

    Great video Mario. Having a 'poorer' quality lens to begin with is very rewarding, as you learn to squeeze the very best from the camera / lens combination and best weather conditions.

      Hi Bob !! Yes, that is true, someone said a long time ago "..Constraints boost creativity..", so, if the lens is the constraint...well, only good things can happen 😁, have a nice Weekend Bob.

    I have fine tuned my settings and get great photos out of this lens! I have been able to get such clear shots of bald Eagles and Osprey! I do indeed Love it and just added a used but great condition 200mm to 500mm Nikon big Zoom lens...that has been a game changer! I must say I got nearly equal the quality from the 70-300mm lens but....the extra focal length is getting me shots I couldn't with the other one.

      Hello Romy, thank you very much for sharing your experience!!! Without a doubt the 70-300 is a good lens, but the 200-500 is a game changer!!!, for many years it was the lens we all dream of and an icon in zoom´s for wildlife. I am very glad that you were able to get one, I would love to see the photos of eagles that you told me about. Eagles here in central Germany are quite difficult to find. 😄 A big Hug and keep safe.

      @@MarioKilianPhotography Hello Mario, thank you for your kind response. Oh my, I see so much out here that is different from where you live. I am over 50% German and my name was derived from Romy Schneider the actress as my Father enjoyed her movies....my Grandfathers last name was Schneider and they changed it to Snyder to sound more American during Hitlers regime. I have wanted to visit Germany when things allow for it. I was able to shoot photos of an Osprey in a nest with her young yesterday at the marina with the 200mm to 500mm lens off a moving ferry. There were dolphins on the way back home from shopping on the private ferry happened too fast to capture though. Our boat is out of the water needing a repair. The picture in my profile here was taken with that 70mm to 300mm max zoom and I could not even see what type of bird I was shooting...I literally assumed it was a sea gull? I cropped it and found out I got some pretty good shots of a flying Osprey! I was able to get a family of seals where the couple look like they are kissing and the baby pops up playfully in front of them with water froze in the air with the big zoom lens yesterday as well as boats flying on the water and kites. How would I send you pics? You don't have your contact info below this video.

      @@romy4593 Romy, your story is incredible!! Romy Schneider was a beautiful actress, I don't remember much of her movies but they must have undoubtedly been beautiful. How interesting to know that you are 50% German, have you been here in Germany? When you come you were welcome, we will do some photography tours together!! I have been living here for almost 4 years, I don't know exactly how many more it will be since they depend on my work.
      Some time ago I was on a tour in Brazil, it was also on a boat, unfortunately that day was very cloudy so the lack of light prevented me from using a high shutter speed and many photos did not turn out well, definitely photographing from a vehicle in motion is very difficult, so I congratulate you on the photos of the Osprey and Seals. Romy, my email is on the home page of my UA-cam channel, (mariokilianphoto@gmail.com).
      A hug and have a beautiful Sunday.

      @@MarioKilianPhotography Thank you for your kind response and invitation to shoot photography with you. That would be a wonderful time! Its on my list to visit but I have not been to Germany. The night before we were born, my father watched a movie with Romy Schneider in it. I was named after her and my twin was named Lori. The suddenly elusive pair of eagles that live below our home have not been seen in weeks! That has never happened in 18 years...hope one did not lose its mate? They are an old pair. I was standing on the ferry at the stern...taking far off shots of seals...managed to get a female and male looking like they were about to kiss? Then up in the water in front pops up a baby with a splash...I caught that shot by accident. I will send you a few shots of different things I get here and would love to get some shots back. Check your email in a little bit and you will see one from me.

    Hi, first your video is appreciated.! I type this as I'm still in New Zealand hotel and can say zoom lens in NZ forest will be more advantageous. I was at Tiriri M. Island and saw several birders with prime 500mm and was too far. I got most shot with my Nikon 70 300 and they missed the small Whiteheads that were in the bushes.

    • @MarioKilianPhotography
      @MarioKilianPhotography  Місяць тому

      Hi Kenny, thank you very much for your comment.
      Indeed, a 500 or 600mm f4 prime lens is what is used professionally. Although a lens of this type does not make the photographer, it must be recognized that a fast lens allows you to use a teleconverter and still maintain a good aperture and obtain sharp photos. The 300mm lens is an excellent teacher, since it forces you to have more skills, so if at some point you can opt for a 600 zoom or a 600 prime it will be much easier than if you had started with one of those. A hug.

    Thanks for that, Mario. I'm thinking as i listen to you that i need a bit of a cognitive reset - i need to be more appreciative of the qualities of the landscape lenses i have as far as trying bird-photography is concerned. But more than the lenses and the slow autofocus - i have some reach and good enough aperture (3.5) at 400 - i need to develop a different kind of patience. Usually, if the light or sky are not to my liking, i just shoot a composition-study and make a note to return when conditions are right... i don't sit for an hour hoping for something to happen because most of my shooting is done between a minute's walk and an hour's drive from my front door. I'm lucky... just look out the window, see the environmental conditions, grab some gear and go, because i know the photo is waiting to be taken and i just have to turn up. I starting to understand that, while some of what i'm used to still matters, birds have brains of their own and they don't see the need to hold a pose just so i can get a pretty picture. I need to accept that the birds are in charge and me being a spoiled child doesn't change that one bit. Thanks for the video - i'd have given up looking for birds within minutes and gone for some nice minimalist landscape shots. Cheers for the lesson and all the best.

      Hi Luzr !!! I thought you are out for a couple of weeks !!, but nice to read you.
      Luzr, about 25 years ago, i lived in the South of Chile, and one of my passions was to take Photos of the wild pacific ocean hitting the shore or the glaciers, i saw how very experimented Photographers tooke one amazing photo to another. But I... I never find the perfect moment, in this time you could not have a preview of the photo, but i knew somehow that my photo was not in the correct moment. The main problem was that the waves, and the entire ocean, are always in motion, and that the perfect moment for the wave to hit the glacier or the coast never arrives, or arrives just at the moment when I was smoking my pipe. There came a time when I hated it, after developing the photos and seeing that no one was at the perfect moment, I felt very frustrated. It came to a moment in there a decided to forget all about the ocean, and turn into landscape, still landscapes, ando so i went to the world of Volcanoes, i was so happy that they are always in place, dont move, always there, i loved it.....until........they started to erupted and spewed lava........MOTION !!! MOTION cames BACK !!! and it all started again, the perfect eruption moment, with the perfect lava trail.....
      Finally, everything is in motion..
      Other Story, in late 90´s, when I changed to Digital photography, i thought that the new gear will came with the sold of the old gear, but no, new lenses was more expensive than i thought, and with the income of selling my lenses i could only afford one landscape lens, and nat even a good one !! So i have to start with this regular lens, and it was full of contstrains, but i reached to manage it..and at least the lens permitted me to keep teaching, it was hard, it was like passing from a first class flight to a ultra economy flight....
      But well, here we are !!!
      Luzr, have a nice Sunday !!
      Mario

    My 70 to 300 is screw drive.So will not auto focus on my Z6ii with adaptor.

    • @MarioKilianPhotography
      @MarioKilianPhotography  9 місяців тому

      Hi Johnny, in this case, the 70-300 was used in the Z7, with the FTZ adapter, maybe the Z6II needs the FTZII adapter, but I´m not sure, the issue is that in the Z5, Z6, and Z6II the Cameras will switch to the DX format, and that means a hughe reduction in the resolution, the images will only be about 12 megapixels. Have a nice Weekend Johnny.
