    What an awesome find!
Lost In Space STILL holds up just as well today as it did back then. having met all of the principal actors save for Guy Williams. I feel extremely honored to have done so, and to have a group photo signed by all of them. It's the pride and joy of my collection and hangs proudly on my wall.

That was great! I was 8 years old in fall 1965 when season one first aired on CBS. I loved the show back then, and I still do. It's the best of all three seasons of Lost In Space. The black and white episodes were the best. They were dark and serious, not silly and campy and goofy, as seasons 2 and 3 regrettably were. I like your previews a lot! Thank you for putting this video together. 😊

I agree that Season One and Season Two of STAR TREK are far better than Season Three.
In what way(s) did Fred Freiberger destroy it though, just to be specific?
LOST IN SPACE and STAR TREK are two very different types of shows, so I think it is hard to actually compare them well.
I like them both, but I suppose it is a matter of style and taste.

    • @Beamshipcaptain

@@jimbotc2000 Freiberger's season III scripts did not make much sense at times, unlike Gene Roddenberry's season One and TWO, and a bit too much jokey humor among the characters, same treatment he gave to season II of SPACE:1999. I am the biggest LOST IN SPACE fan since the pilot in 1965 when I was 4 years old, and then STAR TREK a year later! I turned my love of science fiction into a lucrative career. Blazing all sorts of new trails. The Sense of Wonder is what matters most.

Man, them Robinsons did a lot of shootin' that first year. "Process shots" like the laser effects were expensive -- just a year later, Roddenberry complained that just showing the Enterprise unleashing a double-phaser volley cost, IIRC, $60,000 -- which was 10% of his budget per episode back then.

I was 5 when this series aired Season One. Great memories! Loved the Chariot, and the first 2 Part Episode: THE KEEPER. The following year they changed to Color and a new theme song and the stories seemed to be less scary. Funny at that time, I had no had understanding that Dr. Smith was played brilliantly by a Gay actor. As an Innocent 5 year old kid, life was simpler!

This is so cool, all the intros to the first-season's episodes. 'The Keeper' which was in two parts was really-super good. The Keeper is the same guy from a science-fiction classic- The Day the Earth Stood Still. And the giant spider in this episode of The Keeper- I could be wrong, but I swear I saw that same spider on an episode of Gilligan's Island.
Robbie the robot from a twight-zone episode with Sir Cedric Hardwicke shows up in more than one . Lizards - part bird and part fish from Journey to the Center of the Earth make an appearance in yet another. All kinds of great stuff.
And somebody in an episode from this season used Michael Landon's werewolf-costume in still another. I see now, decades later so much stuff is used that I think I've see before somewhere.
Sure, you can tell it's dated compared to stuff today, but it's still a lot of fun to watch.
Even if that wide-eyed 7 year-old is 100 years older.
And the episode when Penny falls through-into a mirror and finds herself in a very-very bizarre world, both excited and scared the hell out of me.
Kurt Russell as a kid shows up in a real wierd one.

IMO one of the greatest sifi scenes ever filmed (tv or film) was when the Juptier 2 crashes on its first planet after leaving Earth, with Don West seen in a freezing tube, the alien planet's rocky terrain seen zipping by Jupiter's main window, one of John Williams great music tracks playing in the background... Classic.

Season One was always my favorite season. I think if the younger generation would watch the first season, they'd appreciate the show a lot more. But all these young people do is watch bits and pieces of it from the newer episodes. I think it would be different if they actually sat down and completely watch the first few episodes. I'd bet they'd be hooked.

Gotta admit, the robot did have a more charming personality in the later episodes. Also liked season 3's theme better. But season one without a doubt was the best season. It had better effects, stories, was more action-packed and dramatic, and was taken more seriously. But I do like the robot in later episodes.

This mashup gives you a taste of what the show could have been. Even as a kid in the sixties I liked the serious drama of the first season. I don't like the turn it took when Dr. Smith became what he became. I understand why Jonathan Harris did it but it really ruined the show for me. Some of the creatures too left much to be desired. Still, this show is very near and dear to my heart. All of us kids in the neighborhood used to "play Lost in Space" all the time. I miss those innocent days!!!

It clearly displays the strength of the first season with the awesome special effects and all. I mean, after seeing this, who wouldn't want to get the Blu-Rays?! I have to say that, for me, watching the show on Blu-Ray was like seeing each episode again for the first time, really nice. The restoration by 20th Century Fox Entertainment, though not done with a fine tooth comb, is very well done and your preview compilation here is pretty INCREDIBLE!! This show had so many memorable episodes -- that's one way you know it was great. One of the best for me was the S2 ep, "Condemned of Space" wherein West and Smith are arrested on trumped-up charges and sentenced to serve long terms at hard labor on an arid prison planet akin to Devil's Island. In an attempt to bust them out, the Robot bakes Smith a "birthday" cake loaded with high explosives; the two Jupiter prisoners are supposed to use it at an opportune moment to blast their enclosure's defenses and then make a run for it. But upon being given the cake, a despairing Smith disdains the gift and hurls it away. it explodes on impact with a rock, whereupon the Robot says in faux surprise, "Oops! Guess I used too much yeast!" I STILL remember that line after FIFTY FREAKIN' YEARS!! The actor playing their fellow inmate, an alien hardened criminal -- the two are chained to this guy for at least half the episode -- does a fine job, too, within the limits of the primitive, first-gen prosthetics he had to wear.

I never get tired of watching Lost In Space, I started watching the reruns of LIS in 1969 when I was 5 and it's been with me all these decades later. Season One was amazing, and the final episode, "Follow The Leader" was the absolute best, having Prof. Robinson possessed by the spirit of a maniacal alien conquerer who wants to conquer the galaxy again. If the rest of the series had been this serious, it may have lasted well beyond three. However, the three we got were just great (for the most part considering the pointlessness and absurdity of the second half of Season Three).

Very seldom did Guy Williams get to show his stuff as an action-adventure hero after Season 1. I'm thinking of the S2 ep in which he sword-fights a whole succession of Smith-faced clones being churned out by a machine, and also his best ep ever -- the incomparable Antimatter Man in S3.

Season Three was a little better than Season Two-but still a far cry from Season One. For every show like The Anti-Matter Man there'd be a show like The Great Vegtable Rebellion.

I too agree that season 1 was the best.

Thanks for posting! The black and white 1st season is my favorite. IMO the best scripts before like all Irwin Allen productions they became sillier and sillier. Imagine the Audacity of trying to produce 30 episodes a year of science fiction in that pre-digital era. Amazing! Great musical score! Besides John Williams of course they borrowed heavily from Bernard Herrman. I wonder who the one negative vote is. A major douche lol

It's the first of its kind to be done to have a family in space and what it can do with family members like that

Although "The Challenge" is one of my favorite episodes, it was a bit much to expect the viewer to believe Will was anywhere NEAR Quano's physical equal.

Season 3 showed a big improvement over season 2 but the first half of season 1 is still hard to beat.

I agree. If they base the reboot on season 1, they have a chance of success. However, they also better make sure the J2 is a flying saucer and the robot is a cool piece of hardware.

Loved this show growing up, season 1 was the best. It got too silly after that. Loved the music and story lines. Can pickup the music on Amazon. This 15 minute clip is great for reviewing the episodes. Did notice the Derelict was spelled wrong. Other than that, great piece. Thanks.
