This is amazing! When the reruns began to air, these previews were rarely shown. I'd get irritated because I enjoyed them. Thanks for sharing! Been a fan since the beginning.
I always loved the cliff hangers at the end of the first 2 seasons better, I did love Tufelds previews too!! Did they change it because Batman stole the cliff hanger from them?
In the Visit to a Hostile Planet clips, the guy holding the antique phone and talking about 'flying saucers' is Robert Pine, the future father of Chris "Captain Kirk" Pine!
I read that "LIS" was to be renewed for a 4th season, but CBS cancelled the show after series creator Irwin Allen declined to agree to cuts in the show's budget.
@@allenjones3130 So true. Jonathan Harris was attending the network upfronts to promote season 4 when the cancellation was announced. He remembered repacking the suitcase he had just unpacked in his hotel room.
We used to love watching the previews for the following week. I don't think a lot of shows do that these days. The Season 3 DVDs of Lost in Space do contain previews for the next episode, and I love that.
These previews emphasized more Guy Williams, which would have kept me coming back every week, and less Dr. Smith. I don't think that's how the episodes really played out in general.
@@charlesmento5968 It IS true. I have audio recordings of some of them that I made when I was a kid using an open-air microphone and a reel-to-reel tape recorder.
@@charlesmento5968 I don't care if you believe it or not. It's a fact. "Next week" previews for all shows in the 1960s, such as Star Trek and others, were all 1 minute.
Anyone else notice at the very end Dick Tufeld says Junkyard Of Space instead of Junkyard In Space? I'm surprised they didn't catch that even if it was to be the last episode.
@@kevinhoffman8112 Correct. The filmed sequence doesn't always equal the TV initial run sequence. Allegedly Guy and June were written out of 2 ep.s (Space Beauty and Fugitives) for laughing in Vegetable Revolution which was shown second from the last of season 3, but there was only 1 ep shown after Vegetable, which was Junkyard. So obviously the last 4 ep.s (and prolly others) were shown out of filming sequence and jumbled around. Sometimes there are last minute special effects or re-recorded dialog that changes thing around.
I stumbled onto the show in re-runs around 1970 when we got a new TV with a UHF tuner . The show was on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 and it was coming from Buffalo on Channel 29 WUTV . The picture wasn't that good but is helped to hid the flaws in the props and make the fake sky or planet scapes seem real. The episode cycle was on season 1 and they were such good shows I was hooked to be home each Sunday to watch them , the first show i caught was Return From Outer Space and then the 2-part show The Keeper . The Station kept them in sequence but cycled back to Episode 1 sea 1 where I saw how the 2 hour Pilot was broken up into 5 episodes . When the Colour version came on I would turn down the Colour dial so it's B&W which helped to focus on the story and not the wild sets and outfits .
If I'm not mistaken all 3 of these preview compilations are not only shorter in length but also remastered with new special effects. The planet blowing up from the episode The Time Merchant is the same shot from Star Wars: A New Hope
Each season of LOST IN SPACE had a basically and completely different look and unique style, like they were three separate television series' in three years. The series drastically changed that much. The final Season Three is quite popular with many fans (supposedly), but for me, it is definitely my least favorite of the three. It goes 1-2-3. That being said, there were some nicely done and adventurous stories there. Several factors drag the final season down for me though. Still, these new previews were quite a fresh change and indeed exciting. I only have eight of the Season Three stories (one third of them) in my 'very good' category. The series was quickly becoming 'a dying art' lol..
Had there been a 4th would the series still have had a mix of silly and somewhat series eps? No doubt. Wasn't Allen trying to get a talking lama onto the series in season 4? Lol!
Green, there were no previews for B&W Season One and colored Season Two. For those first two seasons, the episode would end with a freeze-frame somewhere soon after the next episode started playing, and when the screen froze, I think it was these words that would slide into the picture.. "To Be Continued Next Week!"
Where did you get these? These are edited down versions from the original versions that aired on CBS. I have audio reel-to-reel recordings of some of the Lost in Space episodes that I recorded from CBS when I was a kid, and the previews were originally 60 seconds.
Thank God for those scenes filmed for the pilot, of the J2 flying through the desert! Some of the most iconic scenes in the series! And they figured out they could show it in reverse to mimic a liftoff, instead of a crash! Wisely, they filmed this in color although it was originally broadcast in B&W! Same for chariot scenes. Was always disappointed they didn’t use the the chariot more in the later seasons.
More footage should've shifted over to The other Robinson family members and a lot less on skiddish timid Dr. Smith on Season 3 since it seemed like he horn swoggled so many scenes on S.2.
The lost in space TV show 1960s could have lasted longer with more of guy Williams and less dr.Smith and more like the first season episodes it was not to late to do better with the show and the show is still à great TV show that in 2018 lost in space TV show netflix was a other great TV show that was different and more updated and nothing like the 1960s TV show that shows how lost in Space TV series can be great after all that it will not be forgotten by the fans that keeps it alive
I am fascinated to know how most aliens have American accents! The Robinsons must have forgotten they had a space pod as they didn't use it until series 3!
These were Great! Thanks for compiling this! Back to another time and place!
