      It's very funny, because these guys don't know how reproduction in mammals and the whole process works. The absolute lack in understanding and even the slightest kind of interest (and respect) how FEMALES make all of this possible is just a reflection of their arrogance.
      No wonder(haha) that they fall back to the nonsense of the bible. That they believe in mechanistic/magical views with ribs and dirt and whatever else tells us further how bad they must be in their day to day job, hehehe.
      Well, it's free comedy ... okay, short lived and very bad comedy, but nonetheless: free:)

      Not if you ask the authors of the paper which lends its name to this mistaken yet popular "effect". The popular notion of some knowledge and competence correlated to severe overestimation of competence is not what the paper actually says or demonstrates. The popular graph imagery with the peaks and valleys regarding level of capability and confidence in that capability is not actually representative of that paper or its data.

    • @UTU49
      @UTU49 16 днів тому

      Why can't they understand the concept of many little changes over thousands of generations? It's not hard.
      These types of science-deniers are unwilling to learn anything, so they cannot let themselves actually try to understand what the hosts are saying.
      I could say this.
      Imagine a species of monkey that is one foot tall. Then imagine that each monkey is a tiny bit taller than its parents. Let's say it's less than an eighth of an inch. Let's say that the monkeys get one foot taller every thousand years. After 5 thousand years the monkeys would be 6 feet tall. That's all evolution is... except that it's a million times as complicated.
      I am quite sure that most of the creationist callers are capable of understanding this simple idea. Most of them, however, would be unwilling to even listen to this simple example without becoming combative, because they are unwilling to even learn what evolution actually says. That's too difficult. They would much prefer to cling to their belief that evolution is completely nonsensical, and attack a version of evolution that is just a cartoonish fiction in their own mind. It's sad. It's anti-truth. It's disrespectful. And it's dishonest.

    I feel like all too often creationists have a bizarre idea of how evolution works and have the mistaken concept of a fish making a monkey and a monkey making a human. They truly don't grasp how genes are passed on to generate mutations that are potentially useful and how that can lead a tiny number of mutations to propagate and slowly change across generations, not just one creature changing or one thing suddenly giving birth to something else. We have to spend less time assuming they know how it works and ask them to describe how they think it works so they can be heard, and we can see where the mistakes they are making crop up.

      I've made comments elsewhere on what a difficult imbalance science education is under, with virtually every moment of every day being saturated with religious thinking and reinforcement compared to the brief times in a scholarly setting of scientific exploration. Indoctrination from this culture is ever-present, while science stays inside it's little hour in a little room once a day or every other day. How could it compete? But I feel like we still need to try, and that this is why it's important to show people science thinking outside a textbook.

      @@FernLovebond I agree. But we’re fighting the social networking junk info culture that comes with ubiquitous pocket electronic devices - that science and technology have made possible and upon which anti-intellectuals have seized to spread and reinforce their garbage. 50 years ago mass communication - even in a relatively small area - was time consuming, expensive and subject to the whims of licensing (think radio or TV) or of the owners of the means of production and distribution (newspapers, books, etc.). All those had some means of content control. Now, the world is your nearly unrestricted mass communication oyster for practically pennies.
