I don’t think I’ve ever heard somebody go so hard and gentle at once. This guy is incredible. The vulnerability blows my mind. I am so excited for the next year for him.
Dude, Nick is so awesome. Got lucky enough to do sound for him in 2019 and it was one of the best shows I've been at. Always puts 110% in to his performances. That comes across well in this episode. Loving these episodes! So glad you had Nick on
one of my new favorite artists. as a 43 year old former punk, that is saying a lot cause its tough to get into new music at my age. He reminds me of Bazan in all the best ways.
He was incredible at the Tyler childers concert in San diego, california on April 5th. Absolutely incredible. Tyler childers picked a great artist to open for him. Tyler was also phenomenal that night, as always.
Thanks Public Opinion! Haven’t heard of you guys nor Medium Build, so glad I clicked a couple months ago, since then found one if my fav musicians in a long time and he happened to be performing here in Seattle and I went and one of the best shows I’ve seen! He kills it, no bullshit, raw emotions and high level musicianship.! I’m commenting for all those reasons but so the algorithm will randomly grab another’s attention. (P.S. wonderful interview Jake (I believe it is), for real!! Sincere, kind… and you can tell when someone wants someone else to succeed…! I also watched some more Public Opinion vids and love them. Keep keeping it solid! Love to y’all!)
NICK! Can you pleeeease put out a lo-fi album like this set (no production, no backing instruments etc). You know what to do man, and we are HERE for it!!!!
Back from the shop?? Wait a minute, you mean the shop where i work at?, where we keep the vehicles and tools?!! Thats crazy, you were at the shop? When, I didn't see you there; musta just missed each other i guess. Anyway, Medium Build is new to me, so im stoked; glad you're enjoying it.
Saw him opening for Tyler Childers. My wife and I were instantly fans. He was sooo damn humble and super funny. I wouldn’t be shocked if he gets to that next level. He made the entire audience just scream apparently to get rid of demons or something, weirdly, it was fun and was hilarious and fun. Dude is real as far as I could see
this version of "say hi" i have come back to many times. I'm seeing this man in october and I can't wait to scream "I don't know who the fuck I am anymore" out loud with him. Has gotten me out of many lows i've had.
I just discovered mk.gee and then UA-cam sent me this dude too😂 that sound that these guys get out of their guitar is so unique. Very nostalgic, 80s, breakfast club feel.
Have seen Nicky C three times in London already - insanely amazing live show presence - he is a special artist. Thanks for capturing his authenticity and sharing this with us, big fan of Track Star!
I just lost my father a week ago and I comforted by our up bringing we share in regards to religion and being queer and sad . Music like his gives permission almost to feel. Love you medium build
@@zacharymaike7042 What's your understanding of "queer"? I want to have a productive conversation about it, despite the relative toxicity of a youtube comment section, but I need to know where you're coming from and if you're coming from a place of good faith before I waste time talking to a brick wall
So. Its 2024 were all watching ourselves constantly and as an oldie i want to hear songs i love sweetly. But truth is. Rawness cuts. And he knows when to do it. This isnt fucked up shenanigans. This is it.
Medium build you’ve really done it damn known by none wow that’s got me right by the heart strings speaks to my soul and moves me thanks for doing what you do!!
What we have on display here is a master showcase of original songwriting, emotion, and raw talent. Found this the other day and have since come back numerous times, ripped through Nick's catalog on Spotify, and bought tickets to his Bowery Ballroom show in New York in June. Although there's a wealth of recorded songs, I feel he's just scratching the surface of his talent and promise as an artist. I've also never been so torn by the difference between an artist's live recordings vs studio recordings. The weight and gravitas of his songs shines in every live recording and performance, while I feel the studio recordings fail to capture his true essence as a singer-songwriter. Cowboy leans towards pop or indie-folk and I just think that's a travesty considering what he's delivering on the live front. The slower, stripped back songs work best in the studio recordings (Knowing You Exist, Hey Sandra, Say It Back), and I think he finds the best balance between rawness and modern gloss on Stick Around and Beach Chair. There's a reason why he's opening for Tyler Childers, and I hope Nick finds that balance on the next record, because right now Cowboy is a 7/10 and could be a 10/10 with the right production decisions. I never comment on videos like this and I'm almost embarrassed to be doing it now, because he'll read this and think fuck this guy, but I think Nick has the potential to be one of the greats with the right direction. Over and out.
@@jamesg199t I will say, the recordings have grown on me, but I still think there's a better balance to be struck between the rawness of his live sessions and the gloss of the studio. I'm confident he'll figure it out. Still can't stop listening!
That “Say Hi” song/live version is soooooo gooood. Post Clinton American optimism was totally what I thought of when I heard the song 😋 love his soft and sweet vocals juxtaposed against his amazing growls, yells and screaming…so unique and so good.
i love love love nick. he is an amazing artist. saw him at Babys All Right in brooklyn last year. seeing him again in june, cant wait!! this was a beautiful set
Amazing, amazing, amazing, fucking amazing. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for Medium Build (Nick) sharing his art with us. Love every single thing he puts out since I ran across him a few months ago on UA-cam randomly. But even the older stuff I love too. Keep being true to you Nick. Thank you a million times.
I love medium build and Nick is so cool. His vibe and music is all I want in my life. I wish I could see him live but his last tour sold out in tx before I could get tickets 😢 Say Hi and Cutting Thru the Country are my two fave songs ❤ also Fat Broke Loser, Alone in My Car, Rabbit, comeonback. Ok I'm just listing all his songs at this point but DAMN 😂

Would have loved to see that show!
Killer performance as always, honestly this guys live performances beat the recorded ones almost every time. Rare and talented chap. Keep it up Nick!
one of my new favorite artists. as a 43 year old former punk, that is saying a lot cause its tough to get into new music at my age. He reminds me of Bazan in all the best ways.
Hell yes!
And a bit of Tim Showalter
Me too...I'm 47 and this guy is the real deal. Love that I found him. Cant wait to see him live in July in Ohio!!
Dave Bazan? That’s a hell of a reference. Legend no doubt.
There’s no such thing as being a “former punk”, it’s all about that mindset! You never lose it.
Watching from Anchorage, and I’m so thrilled so many people having discovered Nick’s amazing talent! Thanks, man!
This is one of those artist that by any means let him just live life and make art. I love seeing his growth and journey! All love from the Swamplands!
He was incredible at the Tyler childers concert in San diego, california on April 5th. Absolutely incredible. Tyler childers picked a great artist to open for him. Tyler was also phenomenal that night, as always.
Completely agree. Been looking for a live version of Stick Around since that night.
damnn I missed that. Which venue did he play at here in SD?
@EriczSURF viejas arena. It was amazing. Next concert of his is in NorCal on Aug 14th.
@@markmueller5006 I've been listening to all his and Tyler's music lol

Just here for my daily viewing. What a guy, what a session.
Most Underrated artist in this moment!!! This si so good❤🔥
I'm completely obsessed with ' Give me back my soul ' especially this version. I've came back to listen to it too many times
Same, I wish there was a standalone video of this version on UA-cam so I could just listen on repeat lol
the way i would kill for all of these to be released stripped down 😭 are u fr he’s so good live
he does this at ALL his live shows. Best live shows ive ever seen. Stoked i got to see him at some local anchorage bars.
Such an inspired performance, especially Cutting Thru the Country. Damn.
In about 4 days he's slipped up to the tops of my favorite artists. And my list is 5,000+.

his music is like a beautiful prayer. I relate so much, give me back my soul!

I saw him last year in DC. One of my favorite artists. I wish he would’ve sang 99 corolla. Such a hit
99 Corolla is such a damn banger. I discovered him after that song but once I found that song I listen to it almost once a day at the least!

Great stuff. Nick has this strangeness to his music that makes him great. Hard to explain what it is other than greatness.
Incredible performance. Nick is the real deal.
Beautiful strange songwriting style. Fierce delivery. Definitely would be fun to see him perform live.
That was a great episode. Love Nick and the cover
