I still remember that lenticular cover! I was about 7 years old, and my family were at Blockbuster. I saw the snowman on the cover in non-scary mode, so I wanted to see what it was. When I walked closer to it and it changed to the skull faced snowman, I screamed and ran to my dad and started crying about the "devil snowman movie".
I too remember walking through the isles of Blockbuster and seeing that horrible cover of this movie and I remember later having nightmares about the killer snowman from said cover coming to get me.
Fun fact: The guy with the 'stupid hat' that gets iced right at the start of the sequel was a character in the first that is constantly in the background doing random things that may or may not have something to do with the scene but no one ever notices him. The director placed him in the movie just as a joke to see if anyone watching would pay attention to one random guy that kept popping up in scenes out of nowhere.
Every time I think of this film, I just remember this one story I read of someone renting this for a kid she was babysitting, thinking it was the 1998 film, and wound up scarring the kid so badly, he was terrified of snowmen for quite a while.
You know, that Campbell’s commercial would’ve been better if the snowman drank the soup and melted, revealing the frozen corpse of a long dead child the snowman killed.
OOOOH, I must have been a very good boy this year, Santa Snob is finally doing one of my favorite Christmas "must sees," Jack Frost!! Much better than the Michael Keaton remake!!
When I was little I wound up getting this idea in my head that every family/lighthearted movie had a horror version for adults - between this, snow white a tale of terror, pinocchios revenge, and candyman (which I assumed was the horror charlie and the chocolate factory lol), I just thought it was the way the world worked!
I love these movies. They're the kind of movies that show just how powerful knowing how your plot sounds can be. Like think about some of the worst movies out there and think about what a lot of them have in common - the people who make them are so serious to the point of being egotistical about them that the movies basically guaranteed to be shit. But the people who made these movies knew how a killer snowman movie sounded, and embraced it, while at the same time didn't half ass it, and even detailed crazy things that can happen in the universe.
The main thing I remember about the time this movie came out, is that its sequel managed to release around the same time as a kid's movie about a dead father who comes back to life as a snow man. Which is already a similar scenario to the one seen in the Jack Frost duology. Of course this movie was also called Jack Frost, so, from my POV it was like "Wow this movie has a really dark fucking sequel."
I always get a kick seeing Mr. Pitt aka the late Ian Abercrombie, because he voiced Palpatine on The Clone Wars, it's weird to see him in a lot of movies and go 'Hey, Palpatine.'
I've seen this movie too many damn times. Mainly because Rifftrax has a full cut of it and they're kind enough to edit out that one scene, you know the one.
At the time of writing, I've seen another film on Tubi that certain "men of culture" might appreciate: the B-movie horror film "Evil Toons." There's some notable adult film actresses in it plus a few well known actors: David Carradine, Dick Miller, & Arte Johnson. I got a few good laughs out of it myself! 🤣
I too recall seeing the VHS cover for these movies in my local Video Stores. I think those lenticular boxes helped these movies gain cult status. In all honesty, these movie do look hella fun. Definitely on the "So Bad its Good" scale. Sad we never got a third movie, hell, I'd make a movie where this "Jack Frost" goes one on one with Bill Goldberg's "Santa Claus" from "Santa's Slay". May keep an eye out for these. Awesome Episode!
I know that they didn’t make another one out of respect (which I appreciate and respect) but at the same time I do think it would be kind of funny if Jack came back to get his revenge but it turns out that Sam had died and now there’s no revenge left
Worked at a video store at the same time at Cinema Snob. Can confirm that confusion about Pirates. (Also a woman almost flipped her shit at me because she wanted my Harry Potter book, because she KNEW THE MOVIE WAS OUT AND THAT WAS THE MOVIE AND GIVE ME YOUR MOVIE. I had to flip the pages to prove otherwise.) also the preview card for Robin Williams “one hour photo” movie confused a few customers thinking we were going to do film development….
Spot-on observation about there being many other movies with the Jack Frost name. There is another Jack Frost with Michael Keaton and THAT'S the show I thought I was playing for my gf's 4-year-old daughter to watch while I made cupcakes in the kitchen. Imagine my horror when I check up on the child and see a woman on the television being raped in a bathtub by the snowman's carrot with the four-year-old completely transfixed to the action on the screen. I have since ensured that I watch past the credits before I leave any child to watch anything on Netflix... Best to you-
I was totally expecting a dawn of the dead type situation when they burned the Snowmans body in the incinerator. Then the vapors saturated the near by cemetery. Then boom several jack frosts
Yo, I remember you showing the gay best friend in Savage Weekend being a badass, and being upset along with you when he died! That was a fun video. That was 2008, and I've been watching ever since. Happy holidays to my first and favorite cult movie guru, the Cinema Snob.
director Michael Cooney did the voice of the man who tells the story of Jack Frost over the opening credits. Marsha Clark, the actress who played the dispatcher in the film, did the voice of the little girl. The movie was shot in the winter during a drought year when there was no snow on the ground. According to actor Scott MacDonald, the temperature went as high as 70 degrees. Foam and cotton swabs had to be used as substitutes. Shannon Elizabeth's first acting role in a movie and her first nude scene. She filmed this before she got the breast implants she reveals in American Pie (1999). Shot in 18 days. The stunt sequence with Sam and Jack Frost falling out of a window and into the back of a pickup truck was done in a single take. One actor who read for the role of Jack Frost pulled a knife at his audition. It's tragically coincidental that Christopher Allport (Sheriff Sam Tiler) was killed in an avalanche. According to director Michael Cooney, the film's production was heavily delayed due to issues with financing. The word cemetery is misspelled on the map the sheriff is looking at with the Federal Agent. The film was given complete creative freedom. The original company that agreed to finance the movie went bankrupt just weeks before filming. The bank oversaw the film, but it left the filmmakers alone, it just wanted a 90 minute movie in a video package. This gave Michael Cooney and the producers complete autonomy with whatever they wanted to do. They didn't have to run anything through anybody, which to them was quite a luxury to have. One of George Price's favourite films, the comedy-horror was jointed with a earlier comedy-horror Ice Cream Man (1996) as one of his favourite films. There was originally going to be a regular opening title sequence for the film. After the budget decreased, they couldn't afford to create one so they came up with the idea to film Christmas ornaments with the titles on them instead. Writer/director Michael Cooney's initial two inspirations for this film were The Abyss (1989) with its ILM-animated water creature and Shocker (1989) with it's concept of an executed serial killer able to seek vengeance from beyond the grave by transformation into another form. As Billy is making a combined oatmeal, beside him there's a small marshmallow snowman with an arm off. Foreshadowing that Billy would get attacked by the killer snowman's remaining arm at the end of the film. The buried antifreeze (containing Jack Frost's cellular remains) starts bubbling at the last scene, indicating a sequel (which eventually got made). No one actually called the police to the house where the couple were murdered.
Awesome video of reviewing both horror comedy Jack Frost movies cinema snob brad, fantastic job. Are you going to review the Michael Keaton Jack Frost movie too.
Okay, so the movie Club Dread takes place at a tropical vacation resort. In that movie, there is a character who's a staff member at the resort that has the title of "Fun Police". Like, that's his work position at the resort. Jack Frost 2 has a character who goes by "Captain Fun". I haven't gone to any vacation resorts, so I'm kinda ignorant to what they're like. Do all vacation resorts have a staff member whose one job is to rile people up and get everyone involved in parties?
5:45 THAT, Snob, is called a "tactleneck". Short for "tactical turtleneck". Thanks, Archer! 7:50 Why didn't that kid just get up BEFORE that (his own?) sled decapitated him? He had plenty of time! 8:36 "FBI, Division 6".
I was looking to see if any of the little snowballs props were available for purchase on an auction site somewhere, and unfortunately couldn't find any. I did, however, find a Jack Frost costume head that was available
These were better than The Snowman murder-mystery movie
I would put this movie & a Pre school & watch children start Screaming & crying. 😉😈⛄
I still remember that lenticular cover! I was about 7 years old, and my family were at Blockbuster. I saw the snowman on the cover in non-scary mode, so I wanted to see what it was. Good ol days
Even for a movie at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes
Same here! I was a big baby when I was young but still loved to look at the horror movie vhs covers
@@Nicebitoftucka we all did that
Crazy times looking at covers for stuff not appropriate for us
I too remember walking through the isles of Blockbuster and seeing that horrible cover of this movie and I remember later having nightmares about the killer snowman from said cover coming to get me.
I dont think I was that young, but I do remember wanting to rent that movie.

its funny that the family movie jack frost is pants shittingly terrifying as where the horror movie jack frost is absolutely hilarious
Enough hyperbole.
I remember seeing this VHS cover as a kid in a gas station of all places
Given his performance in Desperate Measures, Michael Keaton playing a killer Jack Frost snowman would be pretty awesome
Every time I think of this film, I just remember this one story I read of someone renting this for a kid she was babysitting, thinking it was the 1998 film, and wound up scarring the kid so badly, he was terrified of snowmen for quite a while.
This is my one of my favorite bad movies ever-I even showed it to my mom.
She hated them. Both of them.
he is back he is back he has risen the cinema snob lives!
You know, that Campbell’s commercial would’ve been better if the snowman drank the soup and melted, revealing the frozen corpse of a long dead child the snowman killed.
Brad always making our day with his movie reviews
OOOOH, I must have been a very good boy this year, Santa Snob is finally doing one of my favorite Christmas "must sees," Jack Frost!!
Much better than the Michael Keaton remake!!
Awesome, I miss these snob episodes. Please go back to these👍🏽
Shannon Elizabeth's first movie had her getting struggle snuggled by a snowman. I guess everyone has to start some where .
Not like she went on to have a serious career.
Yes! I love the longer episodes. 😍
thank you for the early Christmas gift. will save it for Christmas eve to watch after my annual jack frost watch.
Those American Pie references made me feel nostalgic lol
Yay, he's back. We were worried about you, Brad.
I have not been as disappointed with a sequel as I was with Jack frost 2 as I will be when I watch Christmas vacation 2.
When I was little I wound up getting this idea in my head that every family/lighthearted movie had a horror version for adults - between this, snow white a tale of terror, pinocchios revenge, and candyman (which I assumed was the horror charlie and the chocolate factory lol), I just thought it was the way the world worked!
Scott McDonald was an actor on Star Trek TNG, DS9 and VGR, I never knew he did any movies.
these are great movies just because they know what they are and don't try to be something else.
So that's where Ghostbusters Afterlife got the idea of the mini Stay pufts
This was worth the wait.
love both of these movies
It's like getting a Christmas gift from thecinemasnob. Hope you and your family have a merry Christmas.
That callback to the carrot detective made me spit out my soda. Well done snob. Well done
EVIL MELTS TONIGHT!

These are my favorite movies if you couldn't tell from my pfp and I wanted to say this comment made my day
Damn, Snob, you’re using the censored VHS version of Jack Frost 2. The unrated DVD version is far superior
Merry Christmas to the Cinema Snob.
That VHS cover used to scare the shit out of me when I was a kid
I have the Vinegar Syndrome Blu Ray which has a lenticular cover. The original VHS also had a lenticular cover in the UK as well.
I have the first movie, but in Rifftrax format. Just starting to watch this, but can't wait to hear how you'll tear this a new one.
I saw The RiffTrax Version yesterday.
Now only if he had looked like he did on the DVD cover.
I love this guy's videos he's like the nostalgia critic but actually good at reviewing films
Why was the bank commercial snowman more terrifying than Jack Frost?
Jack Frost he’s chilling and killing

Well, shiiiiit now I HAVE TO watch this one! You are the guru of obscure slasher flicks!
Evil melts tonight! Tx for a great laugh Snob.
Brad gave us a great episode today! Jack Frost 1 & 2 were ridiculous and I liked them. 😂😆
Man, Doug Bradley elevates any movie!
2 of my favorite Christmas movies! ☃️⛄️
Thank you so much for this I miss these so much!!!!
fistbump for anyone who saw the mitt-hand in the pool scene in their copy of Boogeymen: The Killer Compilation
Worth the wait
Hahaha, thank you for doing these!! I love these movies!!

Evil Toons is fucking funny
@@nathanhutchinson6198 I thought so, but in more of a "so bad, it's good" kind of way.
How is this my favorite Cinema Snob episode ever? I've been watching this dude for almost 10 years now.
At last, Jack Frost is being reviewed here!!! Christmas came out earlier this year, eh?
Brad stood frosty to this movie franchise! ☃️
This gave me a brief flashback to high school, when "death by carrot" --> "give her a carrot" became a code phrase, I guess you'd call it.

I love these films, they have some fun kills!

That snowmen and snowwomen joke make me chuckle more than it should have.

The VHS cover always stood up at Blockbuster!
The most important movie of our generation.

Pretty sad that your 1960 film prevented you from finishing October. But I'm just happy to have more Snob reviews
Thanks!
.... I just wanted to say that McDonalds commercial was horrifying.
20:46 My Favorite Character!
Anytime I see a movie titled “Jack Frost”, I gotta make sure it’s not related to the Michael Keaton “Jack Frost”
Michael Keaton and Martin Short are fighting over the film rights THAT'S FUCKING HILARIOUS 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
There is something about those lab scenes that make me think Neil Breen is going to be involved somehow.

Though the weather outside is frightful the kills are so delightful.
So as long as the budgets small. Let it snowman let it snowman let it snowman.
