    MY LETTER TO U2-1987
    I saw you guys on the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 at MTSU-Middle Tennessee State University Saturday November 28th 1987. The Bodeans opened up for you. I remember at the time Larry had a crush on Wynonna Judd and she came out and sang a duo with Bono!
    I didn't have tickets to the show. A friend of mine drove us 3 hours from East Tennessee to see the show. We bought tickets at the box office for $18.50. We ended up 8th row center stage!
    I remember back then the band held back tickets for fans who were willing to make the drive and couldn't get tickets via phone or record store locations.
    Thanks again to Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr for making a special album and tour! I was 18 and had just graduated High School that year!
    All the Best!
    Gary Lagstrom

    For my money, there aren't many moments in rock concertdom as reliably joyful as that moment at a U2 show when you and the 50,000 people around you all realize simultaneously that they're about to play this song, and you all start cheering. 😎

    Hey bud, if you want to really appreciate the evolution of this song live, check out "All I Want Is You/Where The Streets Have No Name" live from Slane Castle. One of the great transitions between 2 songs plus a few more years under their belts...Great performance!

      @@Rockmusicpodcast Here's the link to *ALL I WANT IS YOU/WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME - LIVE AT SLANE CASTLE* ua-cam.com/video/F3e2f4bzumY/v-deo.html Bono (real name Paul Hewson), the lead singer, performed this days after his father passed away. Between the two songs he lets out a gut-wrenching wail and shouts to the sky "It's Paul! It's your Paul! I sing this song for you. I sing my song for you.. in the end." Mind-Blowing Performance.

    It's crazy that this song has gone on to be one of the most powerful encore tunes of all time and yet U2 used it to OPEN their shows back in the day.

    For me, the greatest performance of this song is from the Super Bowl 36 Halftime show, just 5 months after 9/11.
    It's the greatest halftime show of all time. Greater than Michael Jackson, greater than Lady Gaga, greater than ALL OF THEM.

    A lot of longtime U2 fans gloss over their more recent work, including "Moment of Surrender," "Unknown Caller," and "Book of Your Heart" - perhaps the three best songs that any band has produced since 2001. - U2 fan since 1983

    U2, legendary band, so good, u should check out: “new years day”, “one”, “desire”, “sunday, bloody sunday”, “still havent found what im looking for”, “pride in the name of love”, and “bad”......and , one more suggestion, if u want to feel like u took crazy pills, do the old reactor staple of: Stevie Ray Vaughan, “texas flood”, but ONLY the live at the el mocambo, 1983 version (theres 2 versions that reactors do of this song, and el mocambo is superior by a light-year), u will forget ur name if u watch that sh#t, and it will get u at least 250+ subs, probably, idk, but ppl love that damn circus show, fretboard gymnastics, freak of nature, goat level performance....anyway, good stuff, great channel:D

      @vincentvancraig Рік тому

      Theyre amazing live, one of the best, but there are very few bands where i approve of doing live first....u2, is amazing, they could maybe be one of those bands, but i say to play it safe, so studio versions first....thats just my opinion thats actually a fact....too many variables can ruin a first listen...one is that the person suggesting it has been listening to it for 30+ years and he/she has become “nose blind” (ear blind) to the flaws, and the flaws may not be the bands fault, just long drawn out jams can confuse and lose newbies (im not even saying when ur new to the song, im just saying for the very first time?, no, play it safe, do the pristine, official studio version, no variables there).....queen is one of the few bands id break my rule on this for....anyway, yadda, yadda, yadda, I talk too much😳🙄

    • @vincentvancraig

      Or,.......just as a general rule, idk🤷‍♂🤷‍♂🤷‍♂

    • @vincentvancraig
      @vincentvancraig Рік тому

      Idk, the mix on that was weird, the sound quality of it....the guitar riff is lost in the crowd noise and just with it being live, its not the same....its no problem for someone whos heard it a thousands of times....it just all comes across better on the album version, imo

    U2, as you know, is a powerhouse. Was entranced by their sound when their album "War" was released in 1983. I went to seem them on their "Unforgettable Fire" tour in 1984. One thing I will never forget is that their last song that night was "40" from their "War" album, and one by one each member left the stage while still playing and singing, but the audience kept singing the refrain - from the arena, thru the halls, and out into the street - everyone kept it going. I definitely got goose bumps from that one, and one my top 5 concerts. Check out "Pride (In the Name of Love)" or "Bad" both from the "Unforgettable Fire" album. Enjoyed this!

    If you want to see more of them, you should really check out more of their live performances. I got to see them live in 2005. I've been a fan of theirs since 1987. Like the guy below my comment suggested, 2001 from Slane Castle is fantastic. One of the best concerts they did was in 1983 at Red Rocks in Denver, Colorado. There's no shortage of performances to choose from.

    Here's a great crazy rock moment: The GooGoo Dolls, very big in the 90's, performed a concert in their hometown of Buffalo, New York on July 4, 2004. Midway through the show it started pouring rain. Literally BUCKETS. The group said "F*ck It!" and continued the show, playing electric guitars and belting under a downpour while the audience cheered and sang along the whole time. From that concert, their huge hit *IRIS* ua-cam.com/video/_HZM0QiuUS8/v-deo.html
