A busy level crossing found in the town of Horsham to the north-east of the town centre on a residential street. Towards the end of August 2022, this level crossing was given a renewal and conversion from a half-barrier level crossing to have full barriers, and these videos were filmed just the day after the day on which the finished crossing had opened to the public. The level crossing is now controlled and monitored from Three Bridges Regional Operations Centre, as is the level crossing beside nearby Littlehaven Station now, although nothing else had been planned to or did change there. That was re-controlled from the station building during the same period, but works there did not take as long as you'd expect.
Gone are the long Mk.1 twin-arm half barriers and slam-shut pedestrian gates, and there are now four barriers, four hood-less pedestrian lights, and four 'E2S / Apello' alarms - twice as many alarms as before. However, it appears that the LED wigwags / road traffic lights from before have been re-used despite the rest of the crossing changing so much. All four are now on brackets.
    Thanks for watching!

Further to the anger expressed in the ITV report I can think of ways of reducing down time when it comes to northbound trains. Have the control between Horsham station and the crossing still automated but don't give a green signal to trains until the signalman sees that the crossing is clear, setting speed restrictions if necessary. This will in turn also reduce the number of double stays. The proximity of Horsham station should certainly be an asset for northbound trains.

As expected, E2S A105 Apello sounders. Nice to see they’ve re-used the original wigwags though…

Thank you! Yeah it is intriguing why they opted for this kind of install over an Obstacle Detection system.

Brilliant video as always! But always these idiots who think red flashing lights don't apply to them.

I will miss the previous AHB set-up, and preferred it over the current install, definitely.
