Lolololol man that is hilarious. The golden age of wrestling was definetly something special. I get a little depressed sometimes when I think back 30 years ago.....
Late in his career, he wrestled in Tucson AZ, when he was much less mobile. A friend of mine sat in the front row, which was quite separated from the ring itself, and she screamed at the top of her lungs “Do something, stupid, don’t just stand there holding the guy in a headlock.” She kept it up, and at some point Andre hawked up a ginormous phlegm-ball and spat in her direction. Her chin, neck and blouse all suffered a direct hit. The audience absolutely roared with laughter.
The "NO BABY OIL GET OUT! NO BABY OIL" made me cry laughing Its also kinda funny that André goes from a gentleman and so nice to let's beat the hell out of him

My grandfather wrestled a little bit in New Zealand and Australia in the late 60s. After he passed away I found a picture of him wrestling and noticed he was getting choke slammed by a young Andre the Giant. Makes me proud.
It's one of the few times I'm proud to be old. You guys get to watch this in replay. I saw this shit when it happened!!! Actually met Andre once back in 1983 and he was literally the biggest thing I've ever seen in my life. He put his hand on my head and my head disappeared. I have the picture!!
Please post that picture - you could take a photo of the picture with your smartphone, and upload it to Imgur (or any image hosting service, there are heaps), or even just take a brief video of the still photo, and upload that to your UA-cam channel. If you need any assistance I'd be glad to help. It would be so cool to see that picture
My mom took me to wrestle mania when I was a kid, he did the same thing to me, I was like maybe 1 years old and half my body disappeared when he grabbed my head 🤣
I'd be buddies with Andre and would do anything he said that was reasonable both to avoid getting killed by him in the ring and because Andre was a nice guy who I'd want to hang out with.
He thought Big John Studd was mocking him, by stepping over the ropes, disrespecting him. Ernie Ladd did that, but didn't do it again, Ladd respected Andre's thing of stepping over the ropes. Big John Studd declared himself the giant of wrestling, he wasn't, Andre was. Andre took offense at what Big John Studd did, Andre also took it as a mockery , ridicule and a "Fuck you, you ain't the fuckin' giant of wrestling. I am"! Don't know what was going on in Big John Studd's head, but he along with everyone else could see clearly Andre was bigger than he was!
Here's a famous Andre/Hulk story: The night of WrestleMania 3, Hogan was terrified that Andre would change his mind about the ending of their match. Because he knew that, if Andre didn't want to lose...he wouldn't. The body slam was the original planned end of the match, but Vince decided against it, because Andre had just had back surgery, and because Hogan would hurt himself (which he did). Andre and Hogan decided that no, the slam was the ONLY way to end that match, and nobody could make them do it otherwise if they were on the same page. Why? Because Andre knew he was done, his body didn't have much left, he wanted to fully pass the torch in a spectacular fashion while he still physically could. And this was it. And it hurt both of them tremendously, but both agreed the damage was worth it. A less 'wholesome' story from Hogan about him and Andre was when the two were in Japan. The bathrooms were so small Hogan could barely shower, and Andre physically couldn't get into them...so he had to basically shit into a bedspread. To try to quote Hogan "I can only imagine these poor Japanese maids coming into the room looking like Mr. Ed had a pit stop". Wrestlers have the BEST stories.
I always was curious how they pick / win matches it's so interesting looking at this now literally 30+ yrs later I'm 45 now watching those as a kid my step brother would always cry when it was a huge match we had all the WWF wrestling figures were so much cooler then any other era big rubber dolls and WWF ring wish I had em all today my favs were macho man, George the animal Steele Andre the giant rowdy Roddy lost goes on and so sad how most of them past any life on the road and they never really had time off must of been really rough RIP to all that are gone so many those were great days as a kid on Saturday mornings
I din’t believe Hogan here. I think WMIII was completely scripted and Andre was on board for everything. Andre getting slammed was not unusual; the idea that he had never been slammed or lost was completely kayfabe.
@@119Agent Andre had not been slammed RIGHT AFTER HAVING BACK SURGERY, which was the operative part of the story. And literally everyone who had any closeness to the event has stuck to this chain of events since it happened, so it's pretty likely true.
Yeah I remember Andre and Bobby Heenan came to the ring in a cart type thing because Andre couldn’t make the walk to the ring. But Andre still gave everything he could in that match. It was sad because he looked to be in a lot of pain at that point. But you had to watch because it was the passing of the torch. Hogan never had the class to give an up and comer a shot like Andre did for him.
Andre wasn't just big because of his height. His gigantism meant his head, his hands, his feet were all oversized even for someone who was over seven feet tall. To say he was barrel-chested is an understatement. He was built more like a troll than a human. You can see when he puts his hands on the head of 6'10" Big John Stud that he almost envelops his entire thing!
I forgot how big the original Big John was. Yet when Andre was holding John's head in his hands, it looked like he could twist it right off. Even shaking hands with a man like that gives a normal person a glimpse of the strength in such a huge body.
A number of people claim that Big John Studd was only 6'7". He looked 6'10" to me. Studd was noticeably taller than the 6'6" Hulk Hogan, and only a few inches shorter than Andre who had shrunk to 7 feet by early 1980s.
@@Scorch1028 Big John is actually 6'11" John stated he was afraid of Andre. In one of there matches Big John accidentally slapped Andre. And that pissed Andre off. John ran for his life outta the arena after Andre tossed John all over the ring and won the match.
@@Jesse_Jessie_James Big John Studd was not allowed to Slam the Booze Giant feared his spot ... Biggest Bully Office man in Pro Wrestling next to the Played out Under Taker
I think that Andre being upset about stud coming in over the top rope was dumb. Thatb is an easy way to show stud as a rival. It stops becoming interesting is you never see a guy lose.
My brother and I met Andre the Giant at the Atlanta airport. We were flying from Columbus Ohio to Sarasota Florida and had a layover in Atlanta. We were carrying bags and saw him. We just dropped our stuff and ran up to him. I remember him taking off one of his rings and saying try this on. I could almost wear it as a bracelet. I'm 43 now and still remember it like it was yesterday. My aunt still tells the story of how horrified she was when we ran up to this stranger. She had no idea who he was. Andre was a great person. RIP buddy.
Seth Belfort I met Hacksaw Jim Duggan & even he said the same thing, it’s not as good as the old days. I’ve noticed they focus more on storylines as opposed to actual wrestling, who has a good body as opposed to who can actually wrestle. They’ve censored a lot of stuff in recent years as such as lingerie matches etc. WWE has also gotten too political in recent years. That’s why I’ll watch impact or AEW or even NJPW as opposed to WWE.
I met Andre when I was 11 or 12 years old. This would have been 1977 or 78. I was tall for my age and came up to his belt. He was the sweetest guy, I cherish that memory.
Andre also didn’t like Ultimate Warrior either. Bobby Heenan told a story when they were feuding Andre would tell Warrior to run slowly when he would clothesline him and never did, then one night when Warrior went to go do the running clothesline, Andre stuck his fist out and punched Warrior right in the nose. He learned quickly to listen to Andre when he talked to you.
Rick Rude said when they'd tour in Europe, Warrior would always buy Andre some nice expensive French wine and Rude would get pissed that Warrior never got him anything for all the times that he made Warrior look like a million bucks lol
@@HETFIELD He didn't break Heenan's neck, but did mess it up. Hellwig said when they were doing spots together along with those weasel suit matches not once did Heenan ever tell him about being too stiff with him or tell him about his neck.
Warrior seemed to go out of his way to piss off a bunch of other wrestlers. By the time he left, he had few friends in the industry. He eventually made up with some of them in the last couple of years before his death, but for a long time, he wasn't liked by many.
I remember watching Andre at the Cow Palace quite a few times. He was always a favorite in the Battle Royals. I'm sure he won a few of them. Watched him with Ray Stevens, Pat Patterson, Rocky Johnson, Peter Maivia, Haystacks Calhoun and Kenji Shibuya-among others. My brother and I, who were about 8 years old, would take the bus from Bryant St. to the Cow Palace with my Aunt Sally. Thanks for all the great matches and memories of the Cow Palace. May his memory be for a blessing.
I grew up in Stockton and watched big time wrestling with Hank Renner and I remember all the wrestlers you mentioned plus pepper Gomez and the von brauners with their manager Gerhardt kaiser.
Andre was the king of the battle royales. I saw him almost win one in Baltimore. Unfortunately two Japanese rasslers colluded with each other and eliminated Andre, then one of the Japanese rasslers bowed out and let the other one win.
So many are gone now! I know he played the bad guy but Roddy Pipper was a great fellow and loved his family. I really liked his acting in "They Live" the John Carpenter classic.
Great man, bigger & stronger than any of his peers he was still a good man. Never liked to play the heel as he had to in order to turn the reins over to Hogan, but he was sore, his gigantism was showing & his back was a wreck-but still it was with class. RIP big guy!
my grandfather told me he once saw Andre at a very local show back in the 70s or early 80s...very small arena so the wrestlers came out of the same hallways where hockey players come out and my grandfather was sitting right there so when Andre came out my grandfather put his hand on Andre's shoulder to say ''lets go'' but Andre was heel probably because he turned around fast, grabbed my grandfather's beer, sipped it in 1 sec and gave him the empty cup back and everyone laughed of course then later before the show ended a lady from the staff came to my grandfather asking his adress.....the next day a delivery guy arrived with 50$ worth of beer with a message saying ''Andre says sorry for the beer''. He never knew if it was from Andre himself or just WWF as a whole but he liked to believe it was Andre
They cut away from his twisting Sheik's knee right before the best part of that match, as right after that he stood on Sheik's chest for a few seconds, then twisted Sheik's legs and smashed them towards his hips to blow his knees out. Sheik was just flopping everywhere in pain. It was pretty wicked.
From what I've heard Andre was a very kind and generous man. From what I've just seen. To be on his bad side is absolutely terrifying. In any one of those situations he could have killed any one of those rather large men with little or no effort if he so chose. The size of his hands as they were wrapped around John Studds head? Jesus.
From everything I've heard, he was a very friendly and kind man in general. In his final years though, the constant pain he was in made him less friendly and approachable, which is completely understandable.
@@lebowe6131 ya it's sad to hear things like that fans would say he was a great guy but everyone that he worked with hated him and they knew if they fought back vance would fire them
Andre was a nice guy. He demanded respect. Andre despised locker room bullies and big mouths. Andre was policemen for the locker room if you will. He had no problem with correcting trouble making wrestlers in the ring. Andre was truly a tuff giant.
Andre hated bullies/egocentric guys,he hated warrior at first because of that but they say he eventually grew on Andre because warrior was actually a good person
The Warrior said that he and Andre loved working together. Andre was even The Ultimate Giant once on "The Brother Love Show", find the video it was pretty cool.
Same magic the nba uses. Jordan listed as 6'6, i saw him stand next to a measuing stick and it was barely 6'5 with shoes on. Barkley was listed whole career 6'6 - well known 6'3.
I had a chance to meet Andre the Giant on the set of the Princess Bride many years ago. I can tell you from my impression of the man, he was very nice and charming. Everyone on the set loved him. I do not know about all these stories about him in the world of wrestling, and his attitude towards them, but on that set he was terrific. RIP Andre, the true giant of wrestling.
Andre should've had a 2 year long reign with the WWE title, that would've really made him more remembered besides his size, and then the Mania 3 match against Hulk Hogan would've been where Andre could drop the belt and retire or go on to continue to wrestle if he wanted to if his body was able to.
I heard his body was even broken down by then. The scene where Andre catches the princess, they had to have like the actress wear a harness to lower her down into Andres arms cus his back was so bad he couldn't catch her on his own
George “The Animal” Steele has also said that Andre didn’t like John Studd and Iron Sheik. He said Iron Sheik is a tough guy, but Andre would just about make him cry. And George also said that Andre didn’t like the way John Studd would step over the top rope, and during that interview, the interviewer asked if Vince was telling Studd to step over the top rope. George replied, “I don’t know about that, but I know he was being told not to by Andre, and that’s who he should have listened to.” Hearing Vince talk about it here, it looks like Studd was doing that on his own, and if that’s true, that wasn’t the smartest thing to do.
@@docholliday3666 Andre was a beloved and extremely nice guy overall, but he’s also someone that you didn’t want to get on his bad side. He was an alpha male that didn’t want to feel disrespected
@@docholliday3666 I think Hogan saw Andre at some of his scariest moments and that colors his accounts. I think he was there when Andre dangled someone out a window when they attacked him. I think Hogan liked him but was certainly intimidated by his might and temper. Which is honestly fairly wise.
@Bold One Dear me, a man that size standing on your back !! I’m glad he was slow and gentle, imagine how he would’ve been if he’d been fast and furious ... A lot of wrestling used to annoy me as it was so obviously faked ... don’t know about the Sheik and Andre though ... reckon it took a year off the Sheik’s life ...
0:59. Apparently, Andre wasn't a big fan of how Randy handled Miss Elizabeth And "handled" is the right way to describe it Randy definitely treated her like a possession, not a woman.
This whole documentary made me laugh and cry and smile in every way. Andre was larger than life but he was a gentle soul too. A great man, i wish he could have been able to live longer and see thr countless lives he touched.
I was born in 1990, so obviously too young to really know about or have watched André. But my dad, who was not at all a wrestling fan, talked about watching his matches. He was the only wrestler my dad would watch if he ever did watch it. I actually bought this documentary on one of my streaming apps and I can see why my dad liked him. André was also a good and fun person despite the cards he was dealt with.
I played hockey in the same rink Big John Studs kid played at. Met him quite a few times. He was always nice to us little kids when ever we came up to him. I know now we had to of been bugging him because he was there to watch his kid. Still was always a nice guy to us.

Man, that was a good laugh I got from this. May the man rest in piece. I love that he was immortalized through his performance in the Princess Bride. What a great character he was.
I remember his role in that movie all too well. One memorable scene in it was when Andre's boss mouthed off to him, I thought to myself "Are you crazy?! You don't talk to Andre the Giant like that! He'll smash you!".
I saw Andre a few times and it was always incredible. Nothing fancy... not all these high flying moves... but Andre was so strong and had no idea how strong he was... his strength was just unbelievable
I have a lot of respect for Iron Sheik, Randy Savage, and John Studd for getting into that ring with a giant that dropped the act and just tried to hurt them.
I seen Andre wrestling some 42 years ago. There were others but I was struck by the Giant. As he tossed 32 other players aside.Than he proceeded to lift eight women into the air,4 on each arm.
When I was a kid I went to a Chicago wrestling show in the early 70s and they would let the youngsters stand by the ring when the wrestlers came down... At this particular event they were hyping a special surprise mystery match... well you can imagine the expression on our faces when the spectacle of Andre the Giant came walking down our Direction and patted each one of us on the head 😱... All these inner city kids and me were jumping up and down and hugging each other 😁
Andre took no crap from no one. And I thank you Andre the Giant for giving me the attitude of you win some and you lose some but you still have the ability to see another day.
I still have yet to hear an interview where anyone who knew Andre said that he was anything short of a stellar human being. Listening to Jake Roberts tell Andre stories to Joe Rogan was legendary.
Saw Andre in LA @ the Olympic in the late 70’s . Didn’t get close to him but there was life size drawing of the Giant in the Hallway that would make jaws drop . 👍🏼
I’ve actually heard from Disco Inferno that, according to Gene Okerlund and Bobby Heenan, it wasn’t the baby oil that Andre hated about Savage. It was the way he mistreated Elizabeth that made Andre hate Savage. As for Sheik, also according to Bobby, Sheik would bully and intentionally hurt jobbers, pretty much because he could. So, Andre beat the piss out of him. And according to George Steele, he would almost make Sheik cry because of the pain he caused him. As for others he didn’t like, I’ve heard he didn’t like King Kong Bundy, The Fabulous Freebirds, Uncle Elmer, and I’ve heard from a few people that he hated Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Does anybody know of anyone else that Andre hated?
Yeah, I heard the story about why he manhandled Shiek. That was his way of looking out for the little guys, jobbers, etc. Andre knew these guys were just looking to make some extra money and he was cool with that. He HATED anyone who mistreated people. I actually saw that match when it aired. Andre was brutal, and the Shiek had it coming.
Funny thing is if Sheik decided to shoot on Andre, he could have taken him out with his wrestling experience. But since he was a favorite with the office, it would be career suicide. As King Kong Bundy said, people weren't worried about what Andre could do to you physically, it was what he could do to you financially.
It could have been because Andre had a few too many alcoholic drinks. But Akira Maeda, who had far less competition experience than Sheik, didn't really have an issue shooting on Andre. With that said, the history of MMA shows that after around 240 lbs, extra weight on the human body frame does more to hinder than help. It really hurts mobility. This is serious trouble when facing someone with legit competition experience like the Iron Sheik. For example, the experience gap between the Sheik and Andre is far larger than that of Mirko Crocop and Bob Sapp. Yet despite having a huge size and muscle 'advantage', Sapp was clearly outmatched. It is because it only is an advantage up to a certain point, after that its a detriment.
@@Immorpher Andre in the 70s could do back flips off the ropes. The way he wrestle on tv was how he was told to by Vince sr because Giants don't do drop kicks, its doesn't look go, at least according to him. So Andre did what Sr told him too.

Great story.
Your grand dad must have been a bad ass
That’s so awesome.

It's one of the few times I'm proud to be old. You guys get to watch this in replay. I saw this shit when it happened!!! Actually met Andre once back in 1983 and he was literally the biggest thing I've ever seen in my life. He put his hand on my head and my head disappeared. I have the picture!!
Post it bro! Would love to see!
Andre was critically acclaimed as an actor and co-starred in The Princess Bride.
Post the video
Andre always reminded me of that old joke "Where does an 800 pound gorilla sit?... anywhere he damn well pleases." What an absolute legend. RIP.
If I was a wrestler, I would've been Andre's best friend. "You need another keg, boss?"
That is what servants do.
Pretty sure WWF had that covered
I'd be buddies with Andre and would do anything he said that was reasonable both to avoid getting killed by him in the ring and because Andre was a nice guy who I'd want to hang out with.
R.O.F.L.
Andre the Giant could drink 10 Russian generals under the table.
Kissing hi ass might piss him off too 😆
2:33 - Watch Studd’s hand. He taps so that Andre will lighten up.
Good eye, never saw that before.
He almost snapped his neck 😫
I think at some point andre may have been subject to losing sense, so pretty scary thought. He wasnt all there in the end you know
@@hairlessmonkey86 yeah definitely some of this stuff seems a little over the top and harsh
Not only wrestlers have the best travel stories, being a touring bass pro, I've seen wild shit too.
I love the idea of Andre yelling “No baby oil get out!!” At Randy
And the chop while saying "whaaap" very good synchronization.
Sounds like Andre alright😂
0:46 NO BABY OIL GET OUT!

Hulks impressions of Randy Macho Man Savage and Andre are freakin' hilarious!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
0:18 woah
Probably half troll, half bear and half man.

@@CP-kb1du John never did. Hogan was told not to do the leg drop and body slam Andre. Cause Andre had surgery.
RIP buddy.
That smile at 2:37 shows Andre was really enjoying himself.

I miss the old days of WWF
YES YES YES
rick fedorick toothpick guy was Razor Ramon aka Scott Hall
EH122 after the attitude era it went down hill.
WWF/WCW wars and the Attitude era were the golden age.
Seems like every wrestler that came up with Macho Man does a great impression of him lol.
well spoken sir
@J Did you see him on Joe Rogan's podcast? He told some good Macho Man storeis.
Dude that's like the easiest impression of time. Try it on sure you could do it lol it's easy
*No one could sound like they're constantly "Takin' A Shit" better than Macho Man himself.*
Wow Studd was a big man and his head looked tiny in Andre’s hands!
I met Andre when I was 11 or 12 years old. This would have been 1977 or 78. I was tall for my age and came up to his belt. He was the sweetest guy, I cherish that memory.
It's a shame people would rip on him because he always played the bad guy he was one of the most humble humans ever
Heenan was most likely lying about that because he hated Ultimate Warrior.
Rick Rude said when they'd tour in Europe, Warrior would always buy Andre some nice expensive French wine and Rude would get pissed that Warrior never got him anything for all the times that he made Warrior look like a million bucks lol
@@ChargerBullet you know why? Because Hellwig broke Bobby's neck and never bothered to apologize.
That's a who's who of wrestlers I grew up watching. All old school wrestlers.
Now you’re talking the wrestlers I grew up with. I bailed on wrestling after Cyndi Lauper got involved, I hated that it went commercial. Oh well.
@@russell_szabados Cyndi Lauper promoted women's rassling and helped the careers of Cowgirl Richter and Fabulous Moolah.
Im lucky i was kid growing up in those days and got to witness all these legends perform! Rest In Peace Andre, Randy, and big John!
Hector Bustamante Me too man. It was so fun and enjoyable to watch back then. Ugh, so sad what it’s turned into today.
So many are gone now! I know he played the bad guy but Roddy Pipper was a great fellow and loved his family. I really liked his acting in "They Live" the John Carpenter classic.
We're lucky Andre was generally a calm individual.
His opponents were lucky 🍀 🍀 at least.
I think he got arrested once for being not so calm 😂
RIP Andre The Giant. You are sorely missed. You were one of a kind, and I mean that in the best way possible.

He never knew if it was from Andre himself or just WWF as a whole but he liked to believe it was Andre
Andre throwing the iron sheik around like a baby is beyond amazing
And the Iron Sheik isn't a small man.
Andre should've had a 2 year long reign with the WWE title, that would've really made him more remembered besides his size, and then the Mania 3 match against Hulk Hogan would've been where Andre could drop the belt and retire or go on to continue to wrestle if he wanted to if his body was able to.

Didnt he get wasted and say some racist stuff to Junkyard Dog?

Jake's own brother says he had issues with him.
Wrestling historian David Shoemaker: "If you got on Andre's good side, he could make careers. If you got on his bad side, God help you."
André would obliterate Sheik its no contest
No amount of "shoot" experience will help you against a guy that size.
Andre was a class act!!! May he rest in peace!!!!!
