  • In the first episode of the newly titled ‘Dialogues on Truth’ podcast, Rupert speaks with Nikki Walton from ‘GoOD Mornings with CurlyNikki’. They discuss the purpose of being, the nature of prayer, and the difference between the thought ‘I am’ and the experience it refers to.
They also explore how we can get back to our essence when we are overwhelmed by experience, and why we often return to sorrow and conflict despite knowing that freedom is available to us at all times. Rupert then concludes with a guided meditation.

As I share my thoughts, please keep in mind my profound respect and admiration for Rupert and his teachings.
I've noticed something during a podcast discussion on Spotify, which prompted me to write this comment. In the podcast, at the 3:05-minute mark, Nikki mentioned that when she read Nisargadatta's final talks, where he directly points to the Absolute on almost every page, she "closed the book immediately" because she knew she "wasn't ready for THAT."
What she read was the sentence: "The I AM is the door that takes you out (to believe you are a separate individual and realize you are Infinite/Universal Consciousness). But not even the I AM is true." Now, for those familiar with Nisargadatta, this is no surprise. He is one of the few Masters who talked about the fact that even Universal Consciousness/Infinite Consciousness/God are not the Ultimate that can be Realized but a 'Gate' to the Absolute.
Nikki then proceeded to say, "I closed the book immediately because the I AM is all I've got to hold on to," and directly asked Rupert, "What is that? What is he pointing to?"
And here, Rupert seems to, and I'm typing this to be sure, not delve into THAT (The Absolute) but gives a beautiful metaphor about the moon on the painting, pointing again at the I AM, while she just asked him: Why does Nisargadatta say even the I AM is not real?
Does anybody know why he does this? Why he never goes into depth about the real teaching about why the I AM is an illusion?
In my opinion (I'm well aware nobody asked for it, but it is really for the sake of discussion), he had a great opportunity to teach Nikki something truly special. She literally took the courage to speak up about something that frightened her a few years ago. She closed the book back then, but now she seems ready to hear it! The I AM is her only hold on to; this was the opportunity to wake her up from her 'spiritual sleep,' the infinite Consciousness sleep. Yes, everything is Infinite Consciousness, and yes, it is truly amazing (that's an understatement to say the least) to find out you are not this body or persona. You are nowhere not! Everything and everywhere, yes! But as Maharaj said: It is an illusion, the illusion of Being(ness). Only the Absolute is.
In Nisargadatta's scheme of things, "God is not the Highest, for even God needs the support of the Absolute." "For God to exist, you must be there first. Without you, God cannot exist."
This is where he points when he says: Not even the I AM is true.
So, to close this commentary: Does anybody know or think they know why he never teaches about the Absolute? It's just so strange to me that EVEN WHEN SOMEBODY ASKS HIM straight to the point about it, he seems to just discard the whole deal.
Anyway, hopefully, this comment can lead to a great discussion about this subject. And again, I love his way of teaching!

In the exact same way the citizen focuses on themselves as the citizen and inherently/naturally focuses on the whole of a democracy and gives their energy over to it, a person placing attention upon themselves focuses on the mind of God which is the whole in this metaphor. Humans have just come up in a world that has given them their identity because that's how we've come to know each other largely.
A baby is blank more or less outside of the body providing information and we are all exactly identical in that sense which is easily understood by everybody.
In the end in a sense a person needs to recognize the nature of thought and one way to do that is to recognize yourself apart from thought and emotion. Contemplate that for a moment maybe. What occurs in an instant is a recognition of your presence to yourself. Trippy I know but fact is stranger than fiction. Our actual state is non-manifest. For self evident reasons this cannot be expressed in any manner. I understand it as the source for everything that I am. However I'm just like you in a body with all the trappings of life but those trappings aren't so solid in a sense and the awareness of our minds and bodies by definition tells us we are not just that.

“Neither the mind nor the senses can reach it or comprehend it. It is pure Consciousness.”
The above is from Sage Vashista regarding the Self.
