I’m hooked to watching & learning every single detail Tatro shows in these videos. I’ve been watching & listening for hours, when I have time. Thanks for sharing & teaching with your posts. 👍
i can tell just by the way these guys work on the bike they know shovels and are experienced. This is why competent engine work is expensive, because to do it proper takes time.
THE LAST S&S ENGINE I BUILT WAS THE 93 INCH SIDE WINDER COST A LITTLE OVER 400.00 DOLLARS US IN 1976 WITH THE SHIPPING.,WANTED TO SHOW YA WHAT THE DOLLAR CANT BUY NOW DAYS .I HAVE HAD THAT BIKE NOW FOR 44 YEARS BOUGHT IT NEW AND HAVE ONE REBUILD ON THE S&S ENGINE IN1989 WITH THE STOCK ENGINE IN STORAGE BEFORE I LEFT FLORIDA FOR THE DESERT IN NEVADA
I have a funny feeling that bikes from the sixties and seventies werent really made to be run for 50 yrs, but Tatro will definitely make this technology purr....
Designed to last, or made to last I guess, is the question. If H-D designed a simple and reliable machine to take a lot of abuses, I guess that helps longevity...
Tatro, I'm looking for the video series of you working on a motor that your father originally worked on, I don't think this it? If you could please direct me to the correct video?
@@TatroMachine I've been running a Fisher Dampener on my 77 Shovel engine crank since 1996. Really helps reduce vibration and allows the engine to attain higher RPM smoother. Original compensator is in the Fisher box now. With a few other mods like Crane B grind, Crane coil, Crane HI-4 elec ign, solid lifts, S&S E, 23 front, 49 tooth rear, jagg oil cooler, she enjoys 75 mph regularly and at lower temps. I shake my head at these AMF haters. Improve, Improvise, Impress. Really enjoying the videos T!
I have been watching your videos a lot over the past couple of weeks(traded an evo for a nice shovel) but I have one question.. what is your pick for the ignition system? Points and coil or electronic?

Well it looks like I'm not getting any work done today. I'll be watching this tear down and rebuild all day.

see what happens when you buy good parts and put it together correctly. they will last if you don't ride like me.

what about my 30's and 40's bikes?
tatro
Paul Meserole yes this guy is amazing! Wish I could see this guy in person and learn as much as you can from this treasure
I lived in San Diego for almost ten years in the 90's, but didnt know him. Maybe he would have kept me away from Metric bikes.....

Avoid the ones during the AMF period.

you got it.

Behind you tatro is that a race sportster engine?
probably, i have lots of race stuff all over the shop. got to have your toys.
tatro
How many miles, were on that motor?
unknown. dad built it around 1985 and i fixed it in 2014. i know it was run very hard in those years. that is why you build them to last.
tatro
No compensator sprocket ?
i hope not, i hate them.

@@TatroMachine My 96' Road King is the only bike I have that has the compensator on it. My 86' Sporty and my belt drive Shovel don't have them.

Difference between Iron Head and Shovel Head. Ones little junk the other is big junk.
and a twincam is a massive piece of junk. but being a harley most of it can be fixed.

Tatro Machine i am aware of its faults. I have an evo anyway.
so you already know its faults. time to get to work.
