    Awesome video! Definitely keeping this one in the back pocket to send to others who ask where to start with all this 👍

    If error 16 haunts you every group ride, the answer is obvious 😂
    Great vid dado!

    As a community, people need to stop recommending VESC for every situation. I literally see people asking stuff like "should I get a pint?" and many answer saying 'make a VESC!!1!'. I guess it's a meme at this point - but I think this video makes great points. It's not for everyone - and also be wary of who you recommend it to. We want more people riding - not getting caught up in the technicals and creating a barrier for new/casual riders.

    Thanks a lot @surfdado for this video and for all your work on the float package it is currently so amazing. Sure it is a DIY journey, but riding a VESC is definitely something else than a onewheel, it's simply amazing !

    I’m definitely guilty of recommending it to everyone. Only because I’ve dialed mine in to the point that feels so good I’ll never go back. It took time and I put in the work and it paid off.

    Thanks for this video. I’ve been toying with the idea of VESCing my XR and after watching this I realize it is not for me.

    🧐 I am new to the "float" life with only 2 miles on my used XR+. It has occurred to me that the XR is preferable over the GT.... the latter being introduced specifically for the purpose of locking-down platform serviceability moving forward, and with only highly questionable "upgrades". I believe that with the XR, I can change a tire or have a board shop do this without _bricking_ it, but I am not totally sure. Can you elucidate on this a bit for me ? _( If I get into this sport, I will totally want a Floatwheel, but would probably never touch the controller configuration! My reasons for potentially moving away from OW is that of _*_reliability, ethics, performance and quality._*_ )_

    I am going to vesc my pint as a capable traveling Onewheel. It will be able to mobile fast charge with an electric bike battery. Vesc is definitely not easy as it looks, with out good electronic experiences it would take a long time being very careful. I would suggest to people to use the vesc conversion process as a learning experience, do it step by step very carefully.

    The answer is yes, VESC.
    It's pretty easy to build these days...or am I just good at DIY?

      I literally still tell every one of my personal friends to not build a VESC board and buy FM instead... partly also because I don't wanna be their support LOL

      @@surfdado 😂 you already do a TON of that on the VESC pages.
      And we thank you, greatly.

    Awesome Video, I have been tempted to Vesc my XR for a while, but my GT Controller just died on me and sending back to FM is not really an option in the UK. I will take the controller apart and try to fix any issues I see, thankfully nRf connect should allow me to disconnect and reconnect the battery and allow me to trouble shoot safely, and re-enable the handshake to get it back up and running again. If I can't get it back up and running again with the stock controller Vesc is really my only option. Do you know of any issues I might encounter with the GT i.e proprietarty connectors, can the BMS be Bypassed the same as the Pint, etc. I am aware this hasn't been done yet, but I assume you might know of places I can go for resources and trouble shooting. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

      there's a guy in the Vescify Discord (link in description) vesc'ing his GT right now, I know of 3-4 successful GT conversions so far. BMS is the biggest problem afaik because it refuses to work without talking to the FM controller, but others may know more...

    I have a concern with my build. Worked superb, set and tuned up everything. Feels fine.
    Just having problem with foodpad sensors sticking at 0V.
    Sometimes I drive 10+ minutes,
    After a dismount oder even while riding it switches to „no adc input mode“ and the board doesn’t engage again.
    When trigger Voltage set to 0V in Float Config, the board starts again, I can ride (safe as long i dont crash) and ADC shows voltage at some point..

    • @surfdado
      @surfdado  Рік тому

      For this behavior I can only think of loose connectors - how confident are you in your JST crimp job? Or the soldering for those connectors? Sticking at 0V is equal to disconnecting the sensor aka a broken/intermittent connection

    Can someone explain why converting a OW to VESC controller would mean giving up the lights?

    • @surfdado
      @surfdado  Рік тому +1

      there's just no easy way to do it. Most VESC controllers just don't have provisions for lights built in, so you need a bunch of extra components to make it work. But look for "vesc lights" videos, there's some semi-reasonable solutions out

    The Floatwheel route is another risk really. Nobody outside of China have ridden one or put one together. You’ll be on your own against god knows what issue. I’m waiting for mine but I’ll be lying if I’m not nervous about it.

      From what I have seen, it could be cheaper to fly to Tony's house in China to have it fixed, than to do business with FM !
