I don't know much about pid controllers but, could you run a separate loop for front and back tilt or maybe a dynamic pid for the back end letting you set a few degrees of softer pids when it tilts back? Then you could have a stiff front but, softer back fixing what was mentioned at 5:40.

Those issues you're having with maintaining speed into uphills (and just general teetery-ness) are MUCH better if you set your Yaw P to a higher value like 0.6. Basically (from my understanding), this tells it to start pumping more power once you start pushing down the nose no matter the angle, a lot more like an actual Onewheel, rather than not doing much until the nose goes below level and digging the nose in. Really helps for maintaining momentum and just makes the board feel way more solid and predictable IMO 👌 Stoked to see yall putting it through the paces out there

cool video. i am suprised about the tail drag, my friend has a vesc and his is always in level. that's one of the reason i want it. maybe just some tuning needed
I wonder if VESC data logging during the ride might show what's happening when you feel it lose it and drop the tail? Maybe it was exceeding the max regen setting or other other limit setting that could be increased. And Wow! Amazing skills riding that trail! 👀
It's not that the tail is dropping, but moreso that when the tail drags (which is sometimes inevitable regardless of tuning), it looks like it basically gets glued to the ground, accelerating too much to be able to pull out of it. I'm honestly not sure what might be causing this, maybe I and Deadzone (I-limiter) values? I know I haven't experienced that on my tune at all ever since the IMU Filter was introduced.
I think I might’ve actually figured out what the issue is there. I think it is actually going into reverse super heavy which breaks the traction of the tire causing a heavy fishtail. Kind of like when you lock up your tires on your car and lose control.
@@TheFloatLife Oh shit, that could very well be it, that moon dust is like nothing I've taken my VESC on haha.
