Apparently Chekhov was only added for sexual appeal to young women and teen girls, so it's hilarious how everyone just went, "Baby? Baby boy. He is baby." XD
"One parsec, sir. Close enough to smell them." "That is illogical, Ensign. Odors cannot travel through the vacuum of space." "I was making a little joke, sir." "Extremely little, ensign."
“Well, opinions?” “I think we're in a lot of trouble.” “That's a great help, Mister Chekov. Bones?” “I think Mister Chekov's right. We are in a lot of trouble.” “Spock. And if you say we're in a lot of trouble…” “We are.”
If I recall part of the problem was just when they aired it. Most of the people who would have loved it at the time were already in bed, but thankfully they did reruns at a better time and we did get the cartoon to serve as a sort of additional season or two.
Chekov was originally written as a terrible silly cliche stereotype of a russian... It was Walter Koenigs genius as an actor to interpret Chekov as a kind of jackass, no Chekov was not at all stupid, cliché or stereotype... he was just fucking with people, and Koenigs fantastically paced overacting made that fun and work perfectly which could have been disastrous (looking at some certain recent trek with shallow stereotype chara ters... jst btw).
That’s true, it would have been terrible to make him a stereotype. In fact it was good to try to break all of the negative stereotypes that most people had of Russians during the height of the Cold War. Checkov’s unique sense of humor was to brag about Russian inventions that were false, to get a rise out of people. But he never mentioned any of the real Russian inventions, and there are quite a lot of them, including the periodic table of the elements.
I stopped by for this particular scene (7:28). Just randomly popped in my head out of the blue, and I had to come here to see if I could check it out quickly and easily. Thanks geso101 and YT.
Srsly, what was going on w/ Checkov's hair when he first appeared on the show? 😆 TRIVIA FACT: WAlter Koenig was hired because he looked like Davy Jones from The MOnkees & I guess they felt that he could draw in more of a female demographic.
People complain shows have become too woke with cases being 'too diverse' and making it obvious they're trying to be woke. Yet Star Trek had actors of such varying descent and first interracial kiss on television over 50 years before the woke movement started.
interracial relationships and diverse ethnicities isn't "woke". woke is the virtue signaling of the terror of straight white men and the power of intersectionality/victimhood; that race and heder are social constructs but THE most important ones to exist... lol really, if gender is a construct, why are pronouns so triggering since it's all an illusion of subjective perception? .I haven't met a "woke" person who can answer that

Its rather hard to beat Kirk and Spock in the sex appeal contest but they had room for Baby of the Enterprise.
"I am Apollo"
"And I am the Tsar Of All The Russias"
"Spock's contaminating this boy Jim"
Oh Bones you slay me
Referring to, or speaking to a Captain by his first name always seemed very odd.
"One parsec, sir. Close enough to smell them."
"That is illogical, Ensign. Odors cannot travel through the vacuum of space."
"I was making a little joke, sir."
"Extremely little, ensign."
"and I am the Tsar of all the Russias" is my favorite Chekhov line
I love the look on Sulu's face when Chekhov is ranting starting at about 3 :00 about all the 'samples' he's being asked to give.
"Russia" )
That’s true, that was the full title of all of the Tsars of Russia 🇷🇺. They were the Tsars of “all of the Russias”.
I love how patriotic Chekov is.
“Well, opinions?”
“I think we're in a lot of trouble.”
“That's a great help, Mister Chekov. Bones?”
“I think Mister Chekov's right. We are in a lot of trouble.”
“Spock. And if you say we're in a lot of trouble…”
“We are.”
God that was such a terrible episode but it was such a good set of lines
God ToS was amazing... It’s truly a tragedy that it only lasted 3 seasons...
Ye. They still owe us 4 more seasons...
if star trek tos was made today they really would've gotten their 5 seasons. just saying.
@Starch the movies really were watered down version of TOS.
Of course it premiered in Russia!
If I recall part of the problem was just when they aired it. Most of the people who would have loved it at the time were already in bed, but thankfully they did reruns at a better time and we did get the cartoon to serve as a sort of additional season or two.
He is a BABY and I love him
"Mr. Chekov recalibrate your wig!! You need help?" Chekov "I can do it sir" lol.
For the remake, they should have had Chekov wear a bad wig because he lost his hair and was embarrassed while growing it back.
Walter Koenig wearing that Monkees wig in his first appearance.
1:51 Kirk: "How old are you?"
Chekov: "22, sir."
Kirk: "Then I'd better handle it."
LMAO
@Mustafa you’ll understand when you’re older
I believe the actor was almost 30 at the start of the series.
Lol in Russian years
It's incredible how well the humor holds up.
I heard his actor was 30 in TOS which baffles me because if that's true he looked hella young for his age
Prime Chekov: i can do it, sir.
Kelvin Chekov: I CAN DO THAT!!! I CAN DO THAT!!!! MOVE, I CAN DO THAT!!!!
Some things never change…
God I forgot how hilarious his little Cossack dance was.
Shades of Fiddler on the Roof.
Chekhov was the 5th Beatle.
More like the 5th Monkee.
Incredible how YOUNG Chekov is at this time. He looks like a kid! SO VERY YOUNG!
Yes, that was why they added him, to attract a younger audience.
He’s so sweet I love him 🥺❤️❤️❤️
The Russian facts about russia it always amazes me. Garden of Eden is right outside Moscow. I have to see it one day.
I was just cracking up about this
Perhaps you've heard? Russian epic of Cinderella? If the shoe fits, wear it.
Uhm chekov *points down*

Chekov cameo in Picard Season 3 as his son was amazing 🥰🥰 it was short but, great. He was my favorite character ToS character.
No sign of Chekov in the agony booth. Oh, well. I'd like to see that again; maybe it's on a compilation of Chekov screaming.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can’t stop laughing at Chekov just because he’s from season 2
To think same man became Alfred Bester years later.
In Spectre of the Gun, for once Chekov is getting the alien tail.
His hair!! 😂
It was a wig
@@JewandGreek Then the wig lol
It was meant to be reminiscent of The Monkees' haircuts.
Uhurah looked a bit surprised that Chekov talked to the lieutenant like that.

Look at that head of hair hahaha!
Chekov, babes, 'The Minsk Cat' just doesn't have the same ring to it🤔

haha randomly out of the blue, its amazing which things stick around ;)
His face after the lady says "We may even be selected for each other" never gets old.
@@broann4138 Yes, exactly! That and "Cheek-ooff".
4:45 always gets me
2:27 🤭
I think in the episode "who mourns for adonais," Spock just possessed Chekhov 😂😂
This is gold , thankyou
Considering this was during the peak of the cold war, it's refreshing to see a Russian that isn't the villian.
I would like to see what a Mirror Mirror Enterprise would be like under Captain Chekov.
Chevok's servent looks like a guy in Drag...
Thank you so much. This space is ours. I can't believe this hasn't been infultrated ❤️ Wow
Chekhov- what’s on your head?
5:23 LOL!
❤❤
That hair 😬

I always thought Walter was Russian.
this is called predictive programming.....
i’ve heard abt his terrible wig but this was my first time actually seeing it 😭😭 jesus christ
Just think of it as an unfortunate haircut he had at 22 😂
Why Chekov never showed up in the first season at all.
here he is this year talking about it in an interview, he was cast in the second season
ua-cam.com/video/ucvZEEfkHc8/v-deo.html
I’m the same age he was in season 2 now.
Kulak 💀💀💀
DiD YoU kNoW tHaT wAs InWeNtEd In RuSsIa?
He's like the dad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding XD
🤣 I thought the same thing
@alexandra
Chekov was a Troll!
5:13
