It is so nice to see people try natto without the overdramatic reactions, they are open to new foods and new textures and give their honest nonmelodramatic opinions
I admit I gagged a couple times the first time, and occasionally the texture gets to me a bit, but I don’t mind it. Natto prepared properly is actually pretty good
I ate it almost everyday while I was studying abroad in Tokyo. It came with our complimentary breakfast, and I didn’t want to be rude by refusing to eat it. I had grown so accustom to eating it every morning that I had begun to actively crave it. When I got back to America, I immediately headed over to the Japanese market and bought a two week supply
I am japanese. I like natto very much. I eat natto every day.If you eat natto every day, you can live longer! The long life expectancy in Japan is due to natto. Natto, Thank you always! I like american food, too. I want to visit the united states someday. I want to make friends who are from other countrys. I cannot write sentence in English well. I will practice English more.thank you for reading ;-) ありがとうございました(^-^)
This is going to sound weird but your sentences are really cute, I like the straightforwardness and simplicity. I would love to try natto, there are some Japanese stores here in London, I don't know if they are open right now but I sure hope so. I should be in Japan right now but had to cancel my trip because of the confinement 😔 I will visit as soon as this is all over!!! 🇯🇵❤️
Normally I cant watch all those super cringy "First time Natto" videos where they all overact, but this was very nice and interesting to watch specially how different the reactions are. I had to love Natro by eating it several time, now I'm addicted and want it every day :D
This was fun to watch! My parents did not eat natto growing up (from their area of Japan) and I have an issue with textures like yamaimo and natto but I think I will have to try it now! Thanks Shinichi and Satoshi and all the brave UA-camrs for making this video!
I love nattou too! It is so good with kimchi or furikake! Thanks for showing all three parts: plain, with rice, with kimchi! I hope this gets people to try more super food with perseverance!
I tried natto for the first time and it was pretty amazing, I've had 2 of the little boxes within the past 6h and I need more lol. I was expecting it to be very strong as well due to the reactions I've seen people have and the Japanese people I've talked to or watched saying it's an aquired taste, but it's just slightly viscous beans that taste like tempeh without so much bitter kick. Very enjoyable, happy to add something new to my diet to spice things up!
Why is it that French people seem to be extraordinarily good with metaphors? :D I just wholeheartedly love how Cyrus' compares Natto to the vocals of a song.
I watched the video that featured Shinichi's sister's boyfriend being totally grossed out trying natto for the first time. I literally took that as a challenge, went to my local Asian Market, bought some natto and tried it for myself. I never had a problem with the smell... it smelled ok to me! After I added the mustard, shoiu, and green onion, I thought it was fine. When I put in on rice and added kimchi, i I loved it! I've had it for breakfast several times since then. I'm glad to see these folks being willing to try it and actually liking it. You have to teach them the chopstick twirling trick to get rid of the strings after they take a bite, though. That makes it so much easier to enjoy! Great video, guys!
Watching this while eating natto myself improved the experience! I am also super new to natto. Straight out of the package it has an almost chemical flavor to me. I want to love this fermented food and the tips in this video to have it with rice and toppings are a huge relief. I can't wait to enjoy it that way next time :)
After watching this video, it inspired me to go to the local Japanese grocery store to see if I could get some natto! My first time trying it, I almost couldn't finish it. I've never had something that slimy before. It's certainly an acquired taste for those that aren't Japanese, but, I've been eating it most mornings before work now. As it's so quick and easy to eat.
It looks like a pile of bacteria - agree with Felipe 😂. The texture is so weird, for us Frenchies... But I know how much Japanese people love it! It is cultural 😊. Great video guys 👏😘
A lot of Japanese people don't like it lol. I think it's good. It's not the best thing in the world, but I eat it at least once a month for the probiotics, and it's pretty good with some rice and fish and misoshiru in the morning. :)
Pasture-raised eggs, "Swiss-style" cheeses, and goose liver are good sources of vitamin K2 in the traditional French diet. Of course, they don't give you the probiotic benefits of natto.
Justine Leconte officiel - "pile of bacteria"?! That sounds like an insult lol. Do you know what a "pile of bacteria" is? It's this 👉💩 60% of your poop is 'bacteria'.😨
In Kansai, Natto is not popular either and they joke that it is not food for human. Natto is popular in the regions where the less mixed Japanese with migrants from the continent in prehistoric era live.
Ahhhh so happy to see brazilian UA-camrs in your reaction video. I LOVE DRelacionamento. It's rare to see brazilians participating in this kind of thing. Someday I will try this! ♡
so cool to see everyone actually like it. like, natto is so good. im so glad that there are people all over the world who can appreciate it. the only bad thing about this video is that now I am craving natto, and it is a bit harder to get the good stuff here in America, cause like, it's not in restaurants, so you gotta go frozen. but there are so many brands and so far i havent found one that tastes like the stuff i had for breakfast every day back when i studied abroad. Does anyone here have any brands they prefer?
This is how you do it. Force yourself to eat it plain - tolerate it. Then eat the second package with the condiments - accept your fate, then last with condiments and rice and embrace it. 3 time's a charm, or 3 strikes and you're out. Hahaha.
I am Mexican and natto is slimy as nopal. Nopal is like a cactai used in the Mexican cuisine. It is prepared in different ways in salads or as part of a main dish. Tabieats someday I would like to have your opinion on that. By the way I have tried natto and I love it but I have not tried with green onion or kimchi. Looking forward to do that. 😊greetings!
R GB If I like nopales will I like natto? Just wondering because I absolutely love nopales, slimy texture and all. They’re very prominent here in Northern Mexico.
That was amazing! Everyone was so nice and so respectful with their comments! What a fun video Brothers!! I thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that I didn’t want it to end! ❤️ I will go and check out everyone’s channels! They’re awesome!!
This was obviously a very well educated-worldly bunch. They were all very open minded and understood the differences in regions and did their homework before trying it.I've had Natto twice in my life. First was a challenge and I enjoyed it. Then the second was to see if really did enjoy it. Now, I'm about to start making it at home with my wife.I'm also appreciative of the comments that have been left here. I've seen some pretty ignorant comments left on NattoDad's page and it was so disappointing to see that.
Depending on the sauce it may not be Vegan. Some of them use a Bonito (fish) based sauce. So she may want to check the ingredients. I am very surprised by their reactions. There was another youtuber at totally disrespected the natto. He knew he disliked it and still made a whole video on it and made faces and called it gross and disgusting. He is a white guy married to a Japanese woman living in Japan. So he should have known better than to be so disrespectful, especially about food. I am born and raised in Hawaii and that is not how I was raised. We were taught to be respectful about other people's food and culture.
Here's my personal tip if you really want to incorporate natto into your diet. The two ways I use it for my meals are: Breakfast Begin by cooking eggs sunny side up with olive oil and a really really hot initial fry so the outer parts are crispy, lower heat and start cutting up your egg so the yolk can begin to have a soft cook and add the mixed up natto with sauce over your egg pieces and saturate with tumeric powder. It turns out very yummy and the weird slime of the natto will be forgotten and taste just like eating fried eggs etc. I have this with cooked spinach. Dinner I add wild grains to avacado oil, soft tofu (cut up) Kimchi, the natto with sauce mix and green onion. Cooked correctly, it becomes a very yummy spicy paella and again, you won't even think of what natto is like on its own..I do not use seasoning other than the packets for natto and tumeric.
I recently tried natto for the very first time, and I absolutely love it, which is odd, since I'm not one to eat slimy foods like runny eggs or chicken skin. But natto is great when you mix a bit of soy sauce into it and serve it over hot sticky rice. I nicknamed it "bean snot," as that what it looks like to me, but don't let that discourage you from trying it at least once. I actually want to try making it myself, since I tend to buy every package on the shelf of my local Asian grocery store.
see...japan does everything well😂 I've always thought the same about nato and its really never appealed very much to me but now i want to try it😂..i didn't think i would like mochi very much either but you guys done the mochi video and i used the link..got the ingredients and now even my kids love kinakomochi.. love the new style of video you guys are making too. you work so hard and i hope doing new things in your videos brings you guys the success and new subs that you deserve.. i would love to see you guys do more traveling around Japan. i know you guys live there but to us around the world who'll probably never get to visit Japan due to health reasons. Japan and the people and the food and the whole way of life fascinates me and a lot of people and I know i love the videos you guys do at home but i also know you cant please everyone and everyone wants something different. love as always to you guys from me and my family
It cool to see Julie from "Feeling Peckish" on your channel. And this is a coincidence because I bought natto yesterday and plan to eat it for the first time 🙂. I hope I'll enjoy it like everyone too. I've been interested in fermented foods and drinks. I'm slowly eating fermented foods this year and my current obsession is cabbage Kimchi. But I plan to try natto alone first, then with rice and lastly with rice and a cracked egg on top 🍚🥚
i just tried natto for the first time and i liked it. I ate this at breakfast time just to try and capture the complete experience. i found Mito Natto at my local Asian Market in California. It was a package of 4 containers at 51 grams each. First i tried the natto plain and it didn't have much flavor, sort of bland. The fragrance was pungent but not that bad. Next I added the mustard packet and this didn't change the flavor much; still slightly bland. This surprised me, i expected more from the mustard. Then I added a teaspoon of chopped Kimche and this was when everything started to shine. Very nice mix of flavors! I already enjoy Kimche by itself and mixed with the natto was a very nice complement. I added this mix on top of a bowl of short grain white rice and garnished with green onion. It was really good! I am so glad i tried this. I think i am going to make another bowl for lunch.
Thanks for another great video! Natto is on my "must try" list this week. I'm sure that, like all foods, quality makes a difference. Do you have any tips for natto selection?
What a fun video! So surprising! I only tried natto rice once at a local Japanese restaurant where the rest of the food was so good. My first bite, I thought it was all right, but the more I ate, the less I liked it. I should give it another try the next time I see it.
To the American girl from San Diego, you can find natto all over the place! Mitsuwa, Zion Market, Nijiya, Marukai, and pretty much every single sushi restaurant in the city, Kura being my fave. I eat like three packages a day -- and I don't mean three little boxes, I mean three packages. (They come three boxes to a package.) Best thing on earth. Thank you, Japan!
I tried out natto during one of my freshman college Japanese classes, and it was a very interesting experience. I still love it now, and I just had a classic Natto on rice for breakfast after learning there was a Japanese market a short drive from home!
I have found a Korean store in the UK that sells Natto and just love it so I am going to make my own with the powder from Japan and I have to say love your channel you are awesome thanks
It usually comes with a small mustard packet and an oil/shoyu package. Mix the two with the natto and pour it over hot rice. Then it's not too bad. Tsukemono (pickled cabbage), takuan (sweet pickled daikon), and ume (salted plum) served as condiments helps as well.
I love, loved, LOVED this video! I have never had natto before and I have seen your recipe and you made it delicious, but I was still on the fence. This was great seeing people from all over the world try it and they gradually started to really like it. It was great seeing their initial reactions, middle, and final; super awesome. I wish I could find it where I live because I would definitely give it a shot, especially since it is super healthy. Great job guys! PS: Is that the bathroom from your behind the scenes NY video? If so, great choice on having that wall with the window as the background. The color of the brick and the light from that window is fantastic!
I just bought some natto and haven’t had it since I was a kid in Yokohama Japan. I think my grandmother used to mix it with one raw egg and the egg bring out a certain flavor I crave still. I don’t think I even had it just with natto and it’s always been with a raw egg. Can’t wait to try it and it’s been too long and some things you developed a taste for will stay with you for life.
Hi! Do you always have to eat it mixed with those two ingredients that come with it or not necessarily? Meaning, are the two sauce essentials for the benefits and effects that natto may have / produce on your body? Thank you so much for sharing!
I've tried natto once, when i came to japan 1.5y ago. I hated it's smell and taste, didn't mind the texture tho. But i might try it again after watching this video, maybe i ate it wrong, who knows. I found their reactions really nice and made me wanna try it again with maybe a little more open mind like them (even tho trying it was I being already open minded, as my parents hate it lmao)
I heard about the horrors of natto SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I had to try it. I flavored it my way with balsamic vinegar and nutritional yeast and it was delicious. I now add nori and have it every day. I learned how to make it at home (youtube) save so much for 100g daily is 32cents compared to store-bought $1.50 (100g).🥰 you did a great and entertaining video. THANK YOU.
I'm very grown up and can pretend I like something. I put a spoon full in my mouth of this. And no joke I instantly went sick all over the table it's the texture 😂😂
Natto took me several tries to fully appreciate. The first time, I microwaved it to thaw it and it made the whole house smell like body odor! I love it now, especially with plenty of green onion and karashi.
Question is natto added to fried rice in Hawaii? When I was there I got fried rice takeout and when I microwaved it there was these strings like in the video. It wasn't bad.
Is that like a watered down natto? Because I used to eat it when I was homestaying in Tokyo and it smelled super strong, to a point where I actually gagged the first time I tried it, and I love durian smell.
You need to venture into Orange or Los Angeles Counties and visit one of the nearest Marukai, Nijiya, or Mitsuwa markets. In Orange County there are Marukai, Mitsuwa, and Nijiya supermarkets in Costa Mesa. Also another Japanese supermarket chain called Seiwa Market has recently expanded into the same city. And to the one girl in the video that was wondering where to find natto in San Diego, that city also happens to have Marukai and Nijiya stores.
I love natto with a bit of chopped up dill pickle (or dill relish), it's so good. Also, I don't seem to be able to smell natto so well - I have to get really close and it just smells nutty to me.
Serial Snarker Alex, I have wondered for some time if some people react to natto due to their genetics? Not everyone in Japan likes it either; it’s a pretty divisive food, very love or hate. The first example that comes to mind is how a number of folks react to cilantro, coriander.
I just watched this horrible video making fun of Natto and I was very sad, but then when I watched this one - everyone has a fair reaction and really made me happy. Thank you so much for trying out our food.
Natto and Kimchi is a really nice mix, but I prefer them separate cause the bitterness of the soybeans brings out the bitterness in the sauce on the kimchi.
I love eating them. Haven't tried without rice though. My friend who went to Japan brought me some, but now that we're no longer co-workers, I don't know how I can get them without going to Japan. Can't afford a ticket there.
Great video :) it’s cool that they all liked it! I really want to like it too, but so far I can’t get used to the taste of it 😂 well, I’ll have to keep on trying 😜
"$20 bucks at a vegan restaurant in L.A." Girl, you called it lolol I really enjoy natto. My old roommate told me about it 6 years ago, because she is half-Japanese, and we went straight to a local Korean market to find it. Over the years it turned out that I ate it more often than she did! I'm really basic with my natto and really haven't tried other types or recipes yet - mostly bc I don't know what to look for. I just look for the most affordable pack of white styrofoam squares lol. I love it over any rice or starch, mixed with its seasoning sauce (or just plain soy sauce if it didn't come with a tare packet), and its mustard packet. SO GOOD. I especially love it with a poached or fried egg on top - can't do raw eggs in the U.S. since I don't trust them too much here. :P I wish there were bigger/diverse Asian markets in my hometown, I would be more motivated to eat natto every week if I was closer to buying lots of it!
Ordered organic Natto from site which ships from Brooklyn. I ordered too much so exploring new ways to eat. I combined my Chipotle rice and beans dish with Natto beans and add yogurt /kefir on top. Healthy and out of this world good.
It is so nice to see people try natto without the overdramatic reactions, they are open to new foods and new textures and give their honest nonmelodramatic opinions

I agree. I love natto.
yes! I was all ready with my 'who are these idiots, natto is delicious' response, but they mostly liked it

It is high in K2 (mk7). If more people in the US ate Natto, there would hardly be any old people breaking bones.
I felt the same way about pinto beans and coconut milk rice when I came back from studying in Costa Rica!

Especially with an instant pot or pressure cooker and a regular oven or yogurt maker.

Ahhh, não acredito, DRelacionamentos!! :) Nice video!
after watching you guys eat natto from that shop called funanatto I have been craving for natto
i just tried natto for the first time and i liked it.
Any Japanese brand is good I think. Enjoy!
TabiEats Thanks! I'm looking forward to sampling it. :)
I absolutely love natto! I was impressed the American liked it, normally Americans don't like sticky/gooey/slimy textures.
GREAT VIDEO!!! So much fun to watch others reactions to eating Natto for the first time! :)
oh, this makes me even more excited to try it, thanks for the video! :D
It’s so weird to hear other Brazilians speak English when you yourself is Brazilian (I love natto!)
What a fun video! So surprising! I only tried natto rice once at a local Japanese restaurant where the rest of the food was so good. My first bite, I thought it was all right, but the more I ate, the less I liked it. I should give it another try the next time I see it.
Before I had natto for the first time, I saw clips on youtube and I expected it to be disgusting. First bite: I reallly liked it
To the American girl from San Diego, you can find natto all over the place!
Wish they would make it more readily available in the USA! 7-11 here is awful and not nutritious, we are so behind in so many ways!
Most gas stations dont have healthy food? Even in japan they aren’t filled with good food
This was a very nice and educational video!
Haha yes Trinity! The bathroom.
I have been wanting to try this. Please provide references as to where I might find it. Thanks.
I will have to try with green onion and rice next time. Thanks for giving me the courage to try it again!
I love natto! ^-^
just clicked on your channel, i think im scarred
Marcus Or agree! Lol
I like how these people are open to trying out new food. And the fact that they aren't obnoxious about it.
And now I have a lot more fun food channels to watch! Julie of Feeling Peckish was cracking me up.
What sauces/seasonings were used by the end? I heard that you used green onions and kimchi, but I’m curious about the other condiments used!
The sauce comes in the natto packet. But if you don’t have it, just add a title bit of soy sauce.
Looking forward to trying it myself
Hi! Do you always have to eat it mixed with those two ingredients that come with it or not necessarily? Meaning, are the two sauce essentials for the benefits and effects that natto may have / produce on your body? Thank you so much for sharing!
Not essential at all. Sometimes we’ll eat it with just a little bit of sea salt.
TabiEats Grateful for your prompt and helpful response. Have good days 🙂
Very fun! I’ve got to try the kimchi addition.
THANK YOU.
First and only time I tried natto I was on the verge of throwing up hahaha
私は未だに納豆が食わず嫌いでしたが、この動画で悪くないかもっという気持ちになってきました!お友達は皆さん魅力的な方々です(*≧∀≦*)
I'm very grown up and can pretend I like something. I put a spoon full in my mouth of this. And no joke I instantly went sick all over the table it's the texture 😂😂
do they sell in the state ?
Yay I love Julie and her channel 😍 I came here bc I want to send a friend a video about Natto (I'm from Germany and I love Natto).
I could eat natto every day. Yummy!!
I can't find natto where I live (in Brittany, France) 😢 And this video makes me want to try some even more!
I've never wanted to try natto more! What makes it so stringy?
Natto took me several tries to fully appreciate. The first time, I microwaved it to thaw it and it made the whole house smell like body odor! I love it now, especially with plenty of green onion and karashi.
Julie's gonna be visited by a time traveler soon.
Question is natto added to fried rice in Hawaii? When I was there I got fried rice takeout and when I microwaved it there was these strings like in the video. It wasn't bad.
It might have been natto fried rice. BT I’ve never heard of that before...
Is that like a watered down natto? Because I used to eat it when I was homestaying in Tokyo and it smelled super strong, to a point where I actually gagged the first time I tried it, and I love durian smell.
Thanks guys. You have been really nice. It is not easy to accept natto at first.
so now i want to know where can i find this in the uk
Where can i find Natto???? I really want to try it, I live in Hesperia California...... Love you guys always watch you💜💜💜💜
gracie grace I'm in OC... Do you have any 99 ranch markets or H mart? Check frozen section and refrigerated section. Or come to OC! Haha
Sweet collab! 🤙🏼
Where can I buy this?
I just watched this horrible video making fun of Natto and I was very sad, but then when I watched this one - everyone has a fair reaction and really made me happy. Thank you so much for trying out our food.
I never tried it, but it looks good and sounds good. Many reactions are overreactions. However, you guys did it well!
Ive heard people say its like earthy bacon. Or more salty cottage cheese.
日本人でも苦手な人も多いのに驚き!! みんなトッピングすると食べやすくなるんだな~。
私はシンプルに付属のタレだけで食べるのが好き!
I really would like to try natto, but, I don’t know where to find it...
Double time, natto and kimchi is super healthy
Natto and Kimchi is a really nice mix, but I prefer them separate cause the bitterness of the soybeans brings out the bitterness in the sauce on the kimchi.
hi from thailand.
at the first time i hate natto.after i eat 2-3 times i really like it.
I love eating them. Haven't tried without rice though. My friend who went to Japan brought me some, but now that we're no longer co-workers, I don't know how I can get them without going to Japan. Can't afford a ticket there.
Im from japan and i add fresh egg into it
Great video :) it’s cool that they all liked it! I really want to like it too, but so far I can’t get used to the taste of it 😂 well, I’ll have to keep on trying 😜
"$20 bucks at a vegan restaurant in L.A." Girl, you called it lolol
I really enjoy natto.
