DIY CNC Router Build - RoboCNC X2 (RCNCX2)
The RoboCNC X2 has been serving my customers for some years now…
But did I make mistakes? And how about some maintenance?
Not a real interesting video maybe, but it answers your questions.
00:00 Intro in the mistakes and maintenance.
01:15 How did the rack and pinion systems hold up?
03:22 Disassemble the CNC machine.
07:50 The biggest mistake in the design?
09:50 Fixing the mistake.
14:10 To grease or not to grease, that's the question...
19:10 Repair and maintain the rack and pinion system
25:10 The electrical problems i ran into.

Danke!
Wauuu.long time man!
🙈 new job, new house, much work.. I can’t keep up :)
Thanks for making this video Marcel. Tons of great information.
Thanks !
Bedankt David !
Thanks a lot! Again!
I have one question 🙋♂️: when the belt broke did the motors twisted your gantry?
Im making a new Cnc that can run ridiculously fast and afraid that the gantry would be bend if the belt breaks.
Thank you very much for sharing! Its extremely valuable for a self taught cnc makers like me!
Have a nice day!
When the belt breaks the machine keeps working fine, but it je side will have quite some backlash. So ‘No.’.
That said…. When a motor would be loosing steps (in case of a stall) then it might be twisting the gantry. So I’m any case you have to use something to prevent that. (Feedback, or drives with stall protection. See my controller vid)
Well, welcome back to u too - good to hear from you again. And thanks for the update about your cnc build. I did download it back in the days, but never found the right time to start the project.
What speeds are you operating at for high quality?
Time is a precious good, wish I had more of that too :)
Questions like that are close to impossible to answer. Depends on material, endmill, tool path type and shape, depth of cut, step over… and probably some more..
i've looked to the entire series :) wow
thanks for these videos, very informative for someone planning to endeavor such a complex project
May i ask why you did not opted for closed loop steppers ?
thanks and cheers
Cool to hear…. And glad you watched all..
at the time closed loop steppers where not really a thing. Servos are expensive and complex. And do be honest, the feedback does not really bother me, it’s the power at speed where the servos shine. For me a stall detection was a must though. Don’t want to ruin the gantry
Hoi Marcel
Buying a little farm must be stressful in these times knowing how the Netherland's government thinks of people living outside the city.
It’s not all that bad :)
Hello Marcel, I'm into building a damencnc 4m by 2m but there is a Big problem on finding aluminium profil that are precise enough for this kind of CNC. Where did you found yours?
If your building a DamenCNC then They will provide you with the profiles. All the info of the parts I use is in the videos.
@@RoboCNCnl thanks Marcel , but they can't actually provide me the profil due to the poor quality, and it look like it's the same all around Europe... Did you notice something wrong on yours?
@@MrNahornyj no, but I bought them years ago
@@RoboCNCnl Ok that is it... Know WE know why it's precise. Thanks !
