DIY CNC Router Build - RoboCNC X2 (RCNCX2)
The new video series is up ! The build of the new RoboCNC X2 Router.
For those who have seen the build of the X1 router know it has been a DIY build.
As for all first try’s we make mistakes.. So Will be building a new one.
In this video we will make a finish up the Z axis of the router.
Drawings, part list, sellers and prices will be made available for free later on !

Bedankt +Jaap Dekker !! Nu nog hopen dat het werkt :)
En vergeet niet te abonneren !
This design and these videos are the best ones I've seen so far. Gotta make some improvements for my design from this :)
Thanks !
A work of Art Marcel.
This thing is going to be a beast.
Cheers
Peter
Thanks for watching +CNCnutz (Peter Passuello) !
I do think this one should preform better then the old one indeed :)
Why don't i see any video's from you around lately..? Back to work Peter ! :)
Awesome! This video guide for everyone - from beginners to experienced. Thanks for your work. As always interesting and informative! Good luck !!!
Thanks again +Custom Cycle !!
I do hope I help someone with these video's... It's great to share our knowledge together
Just looking great. Very encouraging video. Take it easy with the pre-load of the little z- spindle bearings. M12x1 with that torque on the wrench creates quite a bit of tension. I saw others using spring washers to control the pre-load. I was wondering if a step in the spacers could have helped with the alignment towards the 15er blocks. More videos ahead of me to watch. Thanks for sharing your work.
Thanks for watching, and the advice...
Hey man thanks for u r efforts in shqring in depth details
Thanks !
First of all, you've done a great work on building this machine but most importantly on sharing the very detailed process. So thank you very much. I might grab some ideas for my next build.
But if I may, I think there is a design flaw on the Z axis. Let's say your gantry height is 150mm over the table and you want to use an endmill with a 60mm stick-out for exemple. Given your design, at the maximum Z the bottom of the endmill will be only 70mm over the bed (150mm - 60mm - 20mm spindle collet offset). The longer the endmill, the less usable Z you get. Placing fixed rails and moving carriages could double your usable height. It would also be constant (not dependant on the endmill length).
Cheers.
You are right that the Z hight is quite limited... I would still go this way, but might make the frame a bit higher...
Do you have any reason why you would still go this way? The usable height limitation seems to me to be a good argument to go the other way around, without increasing the gantry height. But you must have your reasons?
@@RoboCNCnl looking to build and I have added 8cm on top of where the Z on my plans to edit a bit but is mainly as going water cooled (4k-24k rpm) and instead of issues happening going to put radiator and pump on the back (where Z not move up and down) looking to hard tube it to make sure not move and flexible to spindle, it have a temp sensor so know it working okay and stop if worry on how bad cooling is
also a thing to ask is the hiwin carriages low, medium or high preload? I am looking at a UK company that sells them as I live in UK and has those listed for same as yours but site you use has standard one version
I liked the "cosmetics"part haha, really a very fascinating and hypnotising work of art, don't need to understand just watching this is tremendously inspiring. want to see this "beast" completed! Nice doesn't cover it! Caroline
Thanks for the great comment +carolinefeyaerts !! I would almost start to blush, If I was not this cool of course ;)
This is going to be a very good machine.
Thanks +NuttyforNissan !!
I think it's good to learn from our own mistakes in previous builds. It all gets better, and we can share the knowledge..
Nice CNC!
+machine.design.CH Thanks !! Make sure to subscribe !
Very informative video, thanks for sharing! At some point in the video you promised to explain why the other end of the ball screw is floating, but I think you actually forgot to do that. Could you please elaborate?
There is no sense in fixing the other end... Slight misalignment, or (temperature) expansion good result in problems when fixing it. And of course it takes a lot of space to do so... Basically, if you do not need it don't use it.
very good work, can you also make fiber laser machine
planning to buy one
You have the best design of a cnc router that I have seen. is any way to get the drawings and material list can't get them from the website.
thank you
Follow what is told in the video's and the description boxes and you will find...
(beetje jaloers :) )
Very nice work. Looks like its going to be a very accurate and smooth machine when its complete. What controller are you planning to use. Cheers Dave.
Thanks +Dave Bassett !
I hope (and think) you ar right... :) I'm not sure on the controller, maybe EdingCNC (former USBCNC) but i'm not sure on it yet. Mach4 is going to be very expensive for business owners i have heard, and I really do not want to use a LPT printer port anymore.
Mooie doordachte z-as.. goed nagedacht over het uitlijnen.
what was the wrong design to put carriages on the moving part, puts rails on staionary part? im making my own cnc router nowadays, and i make my design opposites yours. :/
Although we have already spoken through FB again thanks for the nice words and good luck with the machine !
Aangenaam Marcel :)
Leuk dat je het blijft volgen !
is the x axis 80x160mm
The gantry is... (for me thats Y, but thats just a name)
Fantastic. Would you think about selling these plates at all?
No not yet sorry...
Outstanding work! Do you have username or link to ebay guy that sells good quality ballscrews? Thanks! :)
Jure,
Again, follow the full info link, and read please.

Hello Marcel, greetings from Canada again. I told you about how I was going to borrow heavily from your design. My table will be a little larger. I am doing 3D wood works and wish to be able to handle 1/2 sheet plywood as well as 200mm tall material for the Z axis.
So my base or stand is of steel. It is going to be heavy. They sent 0.188" wall instead of 0.100" for some of the cross members for the bed. Now I am dealing with a return issue. If they had sent 0.125" I might have been able to deal with it. I am very unhappy with the supplier needless to say.
This Type 10 extruded profile I found for the X rail supports, it is 45x180mm good score for sure, but...
What about mounting HGR20 rail to a 10mm gap? Do you think it will be okay ? I don't wish to bother you friend. It is after all just your opinion :-)
Hi Chris... You seem to be making progress, good to hear ! HGR20 to a 10mm gap.... Well.. I think you would be fine, but you could easily go for HGR25 ofcourse...
Take a look at the HIWIN website, there documentation is really amazing, and i'm sure you can fins some info on this matter in there...
I would be farther ahead if I didn't live in a rural setting. Of course anything is possible but at what cost? , 25mm rail is only 3mm wider if the spec sheets are correct. New Years in China so I have lots of time to decide. Finally found a decent vendor for the full suite of bearing and more,.. name of BST Automation.
